University of Phoenix 2
Why did you choose the members you did? Why did you put each one in the role you chose?:

Lead Agent:

Type your reason for choosing your Lead Agent here...
Ricardo's experience in the drug agency and willingness to work

Assistant Lead Agent:

Type your reason for choosing your Assistant Lead Agent here...
Sam had substantial time in the department and has had leadership roles in the past. Also fluent
in Spanish

Intelligence Agent:

Type your reason for choosing your Intelligence Agent here...
Michael had intelligence experience over his counterpart

Field Specialist:

Type your reason for choosing your Field Specialist here...
Antonio knows the streets and street level drugs and was also familiar with locals

Why did you choose to address Sam first?

What method would you consider using to handle Sam?

Explain your choice.

Type your answer here...
I chose to address Same first because he is the team leader of this assignment and I would
ultimately like for the team Lead Agent to be responsible for his team. I would like to give Same
the chance to rectify the situation and create some team cohesion.

You have chose Antonio to lead the meeting. Please provide your reasoning.

Why is it important to have Antonio lead this meeting?

What are the benefits and risks of this decision?

University of Phoenix 3
I feel it is important to have Antonio lead this meeting because Antonio had a previous problem
in the past and might have learned how he would like to now become a leader. I feel that
Antonio has leadership potential and some of the problems that are arising on the team are at a
lower level basis and should be handled within.
Some risks include some of the other team members not being receptive to Antonio because of
his title of field agent and also his prior problems with the group. The group cohesion is a
concern and having Antonio lead this meeting could have an even more negative impact on the
group.

Please provide your reasons for choosing to move Antonio to the Lead Agent Position.

What are the benefits and risks associated with this decision?

How do you think the team will react to this decision?

What are the qualities of an effective team leader?

How has Antonio displayed those qualities?

Type your answer here...
Some risks associated with moving Antonio to team leader will be the impact perception it has
on the other team members. The team members might see this as a strategy to get a different
position in the organization. They may not understand the reasoning behind the decision to
move Antonio from Field Agent to Lead Agent. A benefit of this move could be the cohesion it
brings to the team. The team might be more receptive to Antonio as a Lead agent rather than a
Field specialist.
Some qualities of an effective team leader are communication, organization, fairness and
confidence. Antonio has show examples of all of these traits in his willingness to lead the team
meeting, his communication with the team and confidence in himself and his team members.

There are different methods available to resolve team conflict and handle difficult team
members.

Identify and briefly explain the benefits and challenges of at least two methods used for handling
difficult team members.

Explain which method you used in your decision making process during this simulation.

Type your answer here...
Some benefits of using the negotiation style is that everyone in the group will have to
compromise to come to a decision. This will mean that everyone will see someone else giving
up something for the good of the group. Another benefit of the negotiation is that the team
members will be more willing to bargain if they see they will be no worse off than they started.
A benefit of the mediation technique is that a third party mediator coming in and not having a

personal relationship with any of the team members. Another benefit of the mediation technique
is if the team is unable to come to a decision then the mediator will come up with a solution that
best fits the needs of the team.
