Encourage, Strengthen and Suppor Families
Slowing Down the Restless Child

Childrens behavior can sometimes get out
of control, and tactics you use to calm them
may not be working.

Here are a couple of suggestions for those
times both you and your child need to quiet
down and regain control.

Read to her. Is there a favorite book
she loves to hear? Take the opportuni-
ty to sit close, and touch her arm or
shoulder.
Tell her stories about herself when she
was younger, and stories about yourself
when you were her age.
Keep a collection of colored chalk or
magic markers that are used only on
special occasions-such as quiet time.
Remind your child that you love her.
Tell her at least two reasons why.

Guiding Good Choices
For parents of 9-14 year olds.
Participants will learn how to improve
family communication with their children,
avoid power struggles and help their
children develop healthy behaviors. Edgar

PD will join us the second night to discuss
social networking, bullying and drugs.

Butterfly Festival Raises Record Proceeds

Spirits were high and everyone had fun at the 6th Annual
Butterfly Festival to benefit Parent Connection. Just over
2,800 guests joined us for the event at City Park in down-
town Appleton...an increase of 56% over last year and our
largest attendance to date.

Parents and their young children participated in games and
family fun activities throughout the morning such as face painting, scavenger hunts, tie dye
butterflies, relay races, inflatable bouncers, and much more. The highlight of the event was
a group butterfly release of nearly 1,000 butterflies representing Parent Connections
dedication to helping families fly.

With the generous support of our guests, sponsors, and
contributors, the 2014 Butterfly Festival raised record proceeds
of more than $65,000 for child abuse prevention services in the
Fox Valley area. Thank you all who attended and/or played a role
in making the event a great success!
