Your child has access to a wonderful world of books through
www.raz-kids.com, the online library of exciting reading materials. Your child was introduced to this program last year and we are continuing to use this tool again! Raz-Kids helps students improve their reading skills as they listen to a book read to model fluency. Then, if the computer has a built-in record function, they can record themselves reading the same book. Or, students can read the book to themselves or aloud for practice. Interactive quizzes are available at the end of each book to check for understanding.
Here is how to access the website and your childs reading assignment from any computer connected to the Internet: 1. Go to www.raz-kids.com from your Internet browser and click Log In. 2. Type in the teachers username (bnewingham2) and click Go. 3. Find your name on the chart and click on it. 4. Enter a text password (see attached student log-in card). 5. The books in your childs assignment and stars earned appear on a personal assignment page. Your child can choose to listen, read, or take a quiz by clicking on the symbols below each book. Remember your child must complete one book before beginning another and they must complete each step before moving on. (Listen to the book, Read the book, and Take the Quiz). Your childs level is set based on previous reading assessments. Once we finalize our reading assessments we will adjust levels as needed to help your child build fluency and comprehension. Please note the levels on Raz-Kids.com do not always match the levels you are familiar with in our classroom. Below is a conversion chart to help clarify the differences. Remember, the more your child reads, the better reader he or she will become! Enjoy! Mrs. Newingham & Mrs. Wood
Level Conversion Chart You will notice the reading level is slightly different than what you are used to with the books used for small group instruction in the classroom.
You can download the free Raz-Kids app! You'll just need to type in our username: bnewingham2. Then click on your name and type in your password to get started. The great thing about the iPad version is that students can switch back and forth between the quiz and the text if they need to go back and reread a part to answer a quiz question (students are taught to go back to the text to find the answer). The website version does not allow students to do that.
