Press Statement on the Basic Bangsamoro Law
September 10, 2014

For us who are residents of Southern Mindanao or the ARMM, the
proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law is of paramount importance. Hindi lamang
dahil sa kagustuhan nating tumbasan ang taimtim na adhikain ng pangulong
Aquino sa pagpapatupad nito, kundi dahil kami mismo ang apektado sa
magiging resulta ng Bangsamoro Basic Law. As a member of the legislative and
part of the Bangsamoro, I am morally compelled to endeavor the passing of this
bill with the least, if not zero, changes or amendments.

My constituents in Basilan belong to the primary stakeholders that will bear
the fruit of this law and the envisioned Bangsamoro. And I owe it to them to
perform all, and even more than, that is asked of me to see that the
Bangsamoro Basic Law is expeditiously approved. Bilang mambabatas mula sa
rehiyon ng Bangsamoro, pangunahin sa akin na maipasa itong panukalang
batas para sa pagkakaroon ng kapayapaan sa Mindanao. Ang adhikain ng
pangulo na maipasa ang batas para sa Bangsamoro sa madaling panahon, ay
magiging daan upang itaas ang antas ng kalagayang pang-ekonomiya, pang-
katahimikan at pang-kaunlaran sa Bangsamoro. Ito rin ay matagal nang
adhikain ng mga taga-Mindanao, hindi lamang ng mga Moro, kundi maging ng
mga Kristiyano at lalo na ang mga kapatid nating mga katutubo. Ilang
administrasyon na ang dumaan, sinubukan na lahat ng kanya kanyang paraan
ng pagharap sa problema ng Mindanao, ito lamang sa tingin ko ang may
kakayahang magdulot ng pagbabago. Kung kaya, hinihikayat ko ang mga
kapwa ko mambabatas, pati na rin ang sambayanang Pilipino, na isulong at
suportahan ang adhikain na katahimikan sa Mindanao, sa pamamagitan nitong
Bangsamoro Basic Law

My main point is that, If I am to leave one legacy of my time in Congress, I
want it to be said that I became an instrument to the fulfillment of the loftiest of
goalsthe lasting peace in Mindanao.
