Foreword
This national standard is a revised version of GB/T 17109 -- 1997 Package of grain
sells.
The main technical differences between this standard and GB/T 17109 -- 1997 are as
follows:
The scope is changed;
The terms and definitions are changed;
The requirements for packaging materials are changed;
The requirements for packaging specifications are changed;
The requirements for inner objects are cancelled.
This standard will replace GB/T 17109 -- 1997 from the issue date of this standard.
This standard is proposed by the State Administration of Grain.
This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Standardization Technical
Committees of Grain and Oil.
This standard is drafted by Henan University of Technology, Xinxiang Flour Factory
and Hangzhou Hengtian Flour Group Co., ltd.
Main drafters of this standard are Wu Cunrong, Liu Jixing, Kong Jinxiang, Tang
Huanjian, Min Guochun, Wu Dajiang, Chen Zhicheng and Zhang Juan.
This standard will replace the standard of the previous version:
-- GB/T 17109 -- 1997.


Package of grain sells
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, technical requirements, inspection
methods, inspection rules, labels, as well as storage and transportation of packages
of grain sells. This standard is applicable to the packages of granular grain and
powdery grain.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this
standard, constitute provisions of this standard. For dated references, only the
edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced
document (including any amendments) applies. However, it is encouraged for each
party entering agreement according to this standard to decide whether to use the
latest versions of these documents. In addition, the latest versions of all reference
documents without dates are applicable to the standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard.
3.1 Package of grain sells
General term of the packaging containers and materials made according to relevant
technical requirements for the purpose of sales, used to protect food quality and for
the convenience of storage and transportation.
3.2 Packaging container and material
Materials directly or possibly touching grain for direct sales
3.3 Container
General term of the containers holding grain processing products
4 Technical requirements
4.1 Basic requirements
4.1.1 Packaging materials should be clean and hygienic, and should be prevented
from having chemical reactions with grain. In addition, the packaging materials shall
conform to the relevant national food hygiene standards and regulations.
4.1.2 Packaging containers should be easy to open, use, transport and store for
consumers; could protect safety and hygiene of food and conform to the hygiene
standards for packaging containers accordingly.
4.1.3 The production of packaging containers requires the food packaging hygiene
license. Those which have been incorporated into the management scope of the
container production licenses should be certified by the corresponding bodies and
should obtain the production licenses.
4.2 Requirements for packaging materials
4.2.1 Safe, hygienic and environmental protective packaging materials should be
selected reasonably in accordance with the technical requirements for packaging.
4.2.2 Packaging materials should not have such physical or chemical reactions with
inner objects as to damage the inner objects.
4.2.3 Packaging containers and materials directly touching their inner objects should
comply with the requirements in the hygiene standards and product standards of the
corresponding materials.
4.2.4 Auxiliary packaging materials should comply with the requirements of GB 9685
and internal coatings should comply with the requirements of GB 9686.
4.2.5 Packaging materials using packaging technologies such as controlled
atmosphere and vacuum packaging, their air tightness should comply with the
relevant standards.
4.3 Requirement for packaging containers
4.3.1 All kinds of packaging containers should comply with the corresponding
product standards and meet the requirements mentioned in sections 4.3.2 to 4.3.5.
4.3.2 The specifications and dimensions of packaging products should be designed to
provide sufficient space for sealing, controlled atmosphere or vacuum packaging. The
specifications and dimensions of packaging products should comply with the relevant
standards and regulations, and match the dimensions of the corresponding
transportation packages.
4.3.3 Series of packaging specifications should comply with the regulations in Table 1.

4.3.4 The intensity of packaging containers should comply with the requirements of
GB/T 4857.5.
4.3.5 Composite packaging bags should comply with the requirements of GB 9683.
5 Inspection methods
5.1 Quality inspection: The quality inspection of all kinds of packaging containers is
carried out according to the provisions of the relevant product standard.
5.2 Air tightness inspection: According to the provisions of GB/T 17344.
5.3 Packaging intensity inspection: According to the provisions of GB/T 4857.5.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Sampling: Packaging container samples of different materials and different
shapes are selected according to the corresponding method. The number of samples
for packaging bags is decided through random sampling according to Table 2.
6.2 The quality of packages of grain sells is inspected according to the requirements
in section 4.3. If one item fails to meet the requirement, the packages are judged to
be unqualified and cannot be used for grain packaging.

7 Labels
7.1 The labels on the packages made of the materials such as ceramic, glass and
enamel should comply with the provisions of GB/T 191.
7.2 The decoration and printing on the surface of packaging containers should
comply with the provisions of the trademark law.
8 Transportation and storage
8.1 Collision and rolling avoided in the in transportation of containers made of the
materials such as ceramics, glass and enamel as well as barrel containers; bag
containers should be protected from sunshine, rain and pollution.
8.2 Packages should be stored in dry and ventilated places and should not be
exposed to rain or sunshine or be affected with damp.
8.3 Storage places should comply with the hygiene requirements and should not
pollute the inner objects of packages.
