Congratulations for choosing PDF Standardizer,
the automated and reliable PDF Standardiza-
tion tool for your workow.
Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself
with PDF Standardizer using this Quick-Start
Guide.
This Guide will describe to you step by step
each option and choice that you will have to
make in order to create a PDF Standardization
ow.
This Quick-Start Guide will also introduce you
briey to the three technologies that are em-
bedded in PDF Standardizer :
Enfocus PitStop Server Library
Alwan CMYK Optimizer Library
Enfocus FullSwitch
For a complete description of the features of
each of these applications, you can refer to the
individual manual of each application.
About this
Quick-Start Guide
Enfocus PitStop Server is the world leading
software for PDF preight and control.
PDF Standardizer is supplied with the latest
PitStop Server Library available.
A library version means that you can use PDF
Proles in your PDF Standardizer ow, but you will
not be able to create or dene workows using
PitStop Server as a stand-alone application.
PitStop Server Library embedded in PDF
Standardizer will allow you to use Enfocus PDF
Proles (.ppp), Enfocus Action Lists (.eal),
generate Preight Reports and, of course, use
Enfocus Certied PDF technology.
PDF Standardizer is supplied with industry
standard Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF Proles
for PDF Preighting and Certication. Included
GWG PDF Proles are version 1v4 proles that
are compliant with the PDF/X-1a:2001 output
intents.

Alwan CMYK Optimizer is the world leading
software for color preight and standardization.
PDF Standardizer is supplied with the latest
CMYK Optimizer Library available.
A library version means that you can use CMYK
Optimizer Standard settings that are available
in your PDF Standardizer application, but you
will not be able to edit these settings.
You also can not create or dene workows
using CMYK Optimizer as a stand-alone
application.
CMYK Optimizer library embedded in PDF
Standardizer offers CMYK Optimizer Prepress
edition features.
This edition allows you to Standardizer TAC
values, color separation and GCR for all your
PDF les, CMYK Optimizer also allows you to
optimize your les separation for a specic
output process.
With PDF Standardizer you can make your
workow compliant with ISO12647, GRACoL,
SWOP... Standard printing conditions.
PDF Standardizer is supplied with industry
Standard ICC Proles from ECI and
IDEAlliance, However, you can also use
PDF Standardizer to make a custom output
process (a digital press...) match a Standard
(ISOcoated...) or Custom printing conditions.

CMYK Optimizer Library Settings as seen in
PDF Standardizer
CMYK Optimizer Library Congurator in PDF Standardizer canvas
FullSwitch offers FTP and e-mail le reception,
le sorting based on le type and naming
convention, ow management, and automated
email notication to operators or customers.
FullSwitch is based on congurators that allow
third-party applications to be integrated easily
in a ow.
Setup and automation of those applications is
fully controlled from within FullSwitch.
To use third-party applications, you juste have
to install them on PDF Standardizer computer.
PDF Standardizer is based on the full version of
FullSwitch.

PDF Standardizer user interface is based on FullSwitch GUI
Install and launch PDF Standardizer.
Upon startup you will be asked to choose
between a FullSwitch ow or PDF Standardizer
Wizard.
PDF Standardizer Flow
FullSwitch Flow
Choose PDF Standardizer, then click the Finish
button.
PDF Standardizer Wizard will start.
This Wizard will help you create and dene a
Standardized PDF workow that meets your
needs in a very simple way.
The Wizard will ask you simple questions,
and depending on your answers, a ow
corresponding to your needs will be
automatically created for you.
Remember that you will always be able to nd
additional information and explanation about
each possible answer in the Information eld as
shown below:
Question 1:
Where are your input les produced ?
If you know, please tick the origin of the PDF les
you receive.
If you do not know tick I dont Know
The answer to this question will determine
Standard Input ICC Proles for the ow.
If you choose:
Europe: ECI/ISO12647 ICC relevant Proles will
be used.
USA: IDEAlliance ICC relevant Proles will be
used.
Everywhere: ECI/ISO12467 ICC Proles will be
used.
If your PDF les originators use non standard
RGB or CMYK proles, you can choose Custom
and select these proles manually.

Question 2:
Are you processing...
PDF Standardizer allows you to set ows that are
compliant with the latest Ghent PDF Workgroup
1v4 specications.
These specications require that Ads and other
Documents be processed distinctly.
Difference between the two is the following:
Ads: Allows only 1 page PDF documents.
Any document: Allows one or multiple pages
PDF documents.
Question 3:
Would you like to use any embedded prole(s)
and intent(s) ?
If you would like to use any ICC prole
information embedded in a PDF le, tick Yes.
If not, please tick No.
If you are not sure, please tick I dont know.
PDF Standardizer will adapt and use the chosen
Default Proles.
Question 4:
Where are you input les printed?
If you know, please tick the destination of the
PDF les you produce.
If you do not know tick I dont Know
The answer to this question will determine a
Standard Output ICC Prole for the ow.
If you choose:
Europe: ECI/ISO12647 ICC relevant Proles will
be used
USA: IDEAlliance ICC relevant Proles will be
used.
Everywhere: ECI/ISO12467 ICC Proles will be
used.
I dont know: ECI/ISO12467 relevant ICC Proles
will be used.
Question 5:
On which printing process are your les
printed?
Please choose your output printing Process
among the available options.
If your output process is a digital press, a digital
printer, or an analog press having a custom
prole, please tick Digital / Custom.
This will allow you to use your custom output
process prole. If you are not sure, please tick
I dont know. PDF Standardizer will use a
relevant ECI prole.
Question 6:
How do you want to manage spot colors?
This dialogue allows you to dene Spot Colors
management of your PDF documents (Q2)
If you are not sure, please tick I dont know,
your spot colors will be kept unchanged.
Question 7:
On which paper are your les printed?
(Available paper options depend on the proc-
ess you have selected in Q5)
Please choose your actual paper category.
If you are not sure, please tick I dont know.
The best category of paper for the output proc-
ess will be selected.
Question 8:
What would you like to do?
Preight: allows you to preight your le to
check if it has is any PDF or color compliancy
problem. This option does not x any
encountered problem.
A preight report is saved in the ow Report
folder.
Standardize: allows you to preight and x most
PDF and color compliancy problems that may
be found. A preight report is also saved in the
ow Report folder with found errors, warnings
and successful xes,
A successfully Standardized and certied le will
have no Errors left after Standardization.
Question 8-1:
Transparencies Management:
(appears only if you choose Preight in Q8)
Reject: PDF containing Transparent Objects will
be put in Error Folder.
Allow: PDF containing Transparent Objects will
be processed by the following ow steps (CMYK
Optimizer and PitStop certication).
I dont know: If you are not sure, please tick
I dont know. PDF containing Transparent
Objects will put in Error Folder.
Note! Transparencies are not compliant with
Ghent PDF Workgroup 1v4 specications.
Question 8-2:
Transparencies Management:
(appears only if you choose Standardize in Q8)
Put in Error Folder: if PDF contains transparent
objects, it will be put in ow Error Folder.
Flatten and Rasterize: if PDF le contains
transparent objects, corresponding page
will be Flattened and Rasterized by CMYK
Optimizer.
I dont know. PDF containing Transparent
Objects will put in Error Folder.
Notes !
If you chose Preserve Spot Colors option in Q6
and Flatten and Rasterize option in Q8-2, les
containing Spot Colors and Transparencies will
be put in Error Folder.
Please note that rasterizing PDF pages is a CPU-
consuming and disc space-consuming process
(100 GB free space recommended)
Question 9:
What would you like to achieve?
Dene the kind of output CMYK separation you
wish to achieve:
Standardize Output Ink Coverage (TAC):
Maximum TAC of your output separations will
be limited to your desired value. If you choose
this option, all les TAC will be checked but only
those having high TAC will be processed.
Files having compliant TAC will remain
unchanged.
Standardize Output Separations (GCR):
Separations GCR will be harmonized to your
desired option.
Both: This option will standardize all your les
output TAC and GCR to your desired settings.
This is a recommended option to avoid high
ink density problems and to improve printability
and stability on press as well.
I dont know. Standard and secure TAC and
GCR values will be used by the software.
Question 10-1:
Dene your desired ouput TAC:
(appears only if you choose Standardize
Output Ink Coverage (TAC) or Both in Q9)
Dene your desired ouput TAC:
Output Prole TAC: Maximum TAC of output
CMYK prole dened above will be applied.
Custom TAC: You can dene your desired
maximum TAC if it is different from above default
value.
I dont know. Output Prole TAC will be used.
Question 10-2:
Dene your desired Output Black Generation
(appears only if you choose Standardize
Output Separations (GCR) or Both in Q9)
Dene your desired Output Black Generation
Output Prole standard GCR: Default Output
Prole GCR according to your previous choices.
Alwan General Purpose GCR: Alwan
recommended GCR according to your previous
choices.
I dont know. Output Prole GCR will be used.
Question 11:
Settings Summary
This last window will summarize all your settings
given your answers to the Wizard questions.
Please name your new ow. This will be the
name of your ow root folder.
Dene the root directory where the ow main
folder and subfolders (IN, OUTPUT, ERROR) will
be sitting. If you choose Default option, the ow
root folder will be created in your User / Public
Folder.
Enfocus PitStop Server and Alwan CMYK
Optimizer are now congured and FullSwitch
ow is automatically created.
This Settings Summary is available in the ow
description eld:

To end the ow creation process, click the Done
button.
If you want to create more ows, click on New
Flow. Wizard will start a new ow creation
process.
1 - IN (InPut Folder)
IN folder is the input folder for your ow.
Put all PDF les that you wish to Standardize in
this folder
User/***/Flow Name/IN/
2 - PitStop Check (PDF Preight & Correction)
PitStop Server will Check and Correct
encountered non compliancies with ISO PDF-X1a
and GWG PDF specications in your input PDF
les.
3 - CMYK Optimizer (Colors Preight and
Correction)
CMYK Optimizer will Check and Correct
encountered non compliancies with ISO PDF-X1a
and ISO 12647 color specications in your input
PDF les.
4 - PiStop Certication (ISO & GWG Compliancy)
PitStop Server will validate your le PDF and Color
compliancy with ISO and GWG specications.
GWG relevant Proles will be used for this
certication process.
5 - Merge Error Reports (Merge Tool)
Both PitStop Server and CMYK Optimizer issue
a report after their Preight and Correction
operations. Merge Tool will merge these two
reports in order to give you one complete report
summarizing Errors, Warnings and Fixes for each
PDF le.
Error Reports folder contains reports of les that
contain errors that were not possible to x.
Corresponding les are not fully compliant with
ISO PDF-X1a and ISO 12647.
You may want to x these les or print them
knowing found errors and risks.

PDF Standardizer workow is automatically created according to your choices
6 - Merge OK Reports (Merge Tool)
OK Reports folder contains reports of les that
are compliant with ISO standards.
Corresponding les are fully compliant with ISO
PDF-X1a and ISO 12647. You can send them to
any printer or print them in total security.
7 - ERROR (OutPut Error Folder)
Files that contain errors that were not possible
to x will be put in ERROR folder.
These les are not fully compliant with ISO PDF-
X1a and ISO 12647. You may want to x these
les or print them knowing found errors and
risks.
Example of errors that can not be xed:
Not embedded fonts, OPI links missing, etc.
8 - OUTPUT (OutPut Compliant Folder)
Files that are fully compliant with ISO PDF-X1a
and ISO 12647 are put in OUTPUT folder .
You can send them to any printer or print them
in total security.
9 - GenericProblem (Rename Job)
When a PDF Standardizer ow fails to handle
a job for any reason that is not related to
PitStop Server or CMYK Optimizer checks and
xes, corresponding le is renamed and put in
Problem Jobs folder.
10 - Problem jobs (Dedicated Folder)
When a PDF Standardizer process fails to
handle a job, the problematic job is moved to
the Problem Jobs folder.
The following ICC proles are used by CMYK
Optimizer to Preight and Fix colors in your PDFs:
