Avtek plans to create a stretched, 19-seat, com-
muter version of the 400A all-composite twin-
turboprop business aircraft, which is in
development, dubbed die 419 Express, under a
supplemental type certificate.
The Californian company is seeking financ-
ing for FAAcertification of the 400A, which will
take place 28-32 months after funding is
secured.
Development of die 19-seat 419 Express will
require additional funding, and will follow the
initial business model.

L OADMASTER L M- 200
Ayres launched the LM-200 programme in
November 1996 widi an order for 50 cargo ver-
sions from FedEx, the first of which is due to be
delivered in October 1999. Intended to be a
low-cost, simple-to-maintain, aircraft, the
Loadmaster is a high-winged design, powered
by a 2,000kW AlliedSignal/Allison Light
Helicopter Turbine Engine (LHTEC)
CTP800-4T Twin Pack propulsion system -
two engines driving a single Hamilton Standard
three-bladed propeller through a GKN
Westland combining gearbox.
The CTP800 is the turboprop version of the
LHTEC's T-800 turboshaft developed for the
Boeing/Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche heli-
copter. First flight of the LM-200, which has an
MTOW of 8,600kg and will cruise at 165kt, is
scheduled for late 1998.
It will be offered in both cargo and 19-pas-
senger configurations. Ayres will also offer a
rear-loading-ramp option and an amphibious
version, while the company is hoping to launch
the 11,3 50kg LM250 with CTP800-50s devel-

company is also interested in using the turbo-
prop version of the 2,450kW T801, the

TURBO- 67 DC- 3TP
The Wisconsin-based company won US certifi-
cation for its Douglas DC-3/C-47 turboprop
modification in December 1990. The work
involves replacing the piston engines with new
960kW P&WC PT6A-67R powerplants dri-
ving Hartzell five-bladed propellers. A 1.02 m
stretch forward of the wing preserves the cen-
tre-of-gravity position. The cabin is 1.52m
longer. A new electrical system is fitted and
upgraded hydraulics accelerate gear retraction.
An upward-hingeing cargo door permits the
loading of LD3 containers. The aircraft is avail-
able for cargo, troop, passenger and patrol.
The Royal Thai Air Force ordered three
Turbo 67s for seedingclouds with "rainmaking"
chemicals. Basler signed a long-term agreement
with the USAF in 1995 under which Turbo-67s
integrated avionics system for its order. FedEx
has selected Honeywell's SPZ-5000 integrated
avionics system.

are supplied to foreign air forces. They are
already in service in Bolivia, Colombia, El
Salvador and Guatemala, and are used by the
US Forest Service.
The programme suffered a set-back in March
1997 when the company's founder, Warren
Basler,.was killed in a mid-air collision whilst
carrying out an air-to-air photographic sortie
with one of the converted aircraft.
