Some new ways to think for proper strategies and realistic Leadership
). +ntrod*tion:
We have many Hindu Organizations around the world working for the cause of
improving and strengthening the cause of Hindu Dharma and Hindu Rashtra !everal
of the large Hindu Organizations" political" social and Religious" are all organized well
#heir leadership is strong and command good respect among their followers !till many
of them lack universal support among Hindus at large While most active mem$ers of
these organizations may feel that they are all in good shape with $usiness as usual and
the situation keeps them in power and popularity% we often get a &uestion why they do
not have a mass support of the ma'ority #he Hindu population in countries outside
(ndia" particularly in )!*" faces a different pro$lem in their effort to preserve and
propagate the Hindu Dharma among their community mem$ers and at the same time
pro'ect a proper image of Hindu Religion with pride to the community they are living in
(n (ndia" the motherland of Hindu Dharma" the pro$lem is &uite different #here
are many small groups" some political" some social and some protective" $ut often
without proper o$'ective" direction or leadership +any of our leaders talk and work with
great ideals and conservative spirit #hey take up all types of causes without proper
o$'ective and division of work among different groups without competing #hey have not
prepared the leadership at second level and have not shown proper directions for the
followers at the ground level who often lack sincerity and discipline +any often confuse
their personal agenda and social actions with the proper Hindu Dharma ,ause
+any of our -eaders who formed groups and organization in the pre-
independence era or the immediate post-(ndependence era still feel the pressure to
operate under many good $ut old ideals and function (n this early .1
st
century" the
political situation has changed around the world and needs new thinking" new planning
and new strategies to face the situation and can not $e as $usiness usual *s we adore
our leaders with great reverence" we have reached a situation with a strange vacuum in
the middle management levels since many do not want to e/press any new ideas or
arguments as a reflection of their respect to their leaders and $eing afraid or offending
others We invite our participants to analyze and discuss the pro$lems and to give their
inputs for proper leadership development

(. Where is the !ro$lem , or do we have a pro$lem-
#his time we need to discuss a$out the organization plans for the .ind* Sama%
and a .ind* #ashtra with various organizations working for the Hindu ,ause #here
are many of them who duplicate or try to do all things for all #hus they are competing or
trying to destroy each other" in stead of" concentrating on the important Hindu causes"
supporting and cooperating with each other like separate army $rigades working
together for a common war (t is time to cool down and not compete among ourselves
for our ego We need to work together for the sake of Hindu Dharma and for victory in
our Maha Bharata war Please do not feel offended $y the individuals who point out our
shortcomings $ut consider them more like 0(ntrospection0 in good faith" which is very
important for growth" when we work for a common Hindu cause We should not e/pect
every one to work in every area $ut lend a support in one way or other -et us all move
forward and work together 1ach one should define their own area of activities and
confine to that and not to interfere with others #here are those who will do political
work" those who will fight against other religions and those who will 'ust work in local
temples or Hindu education and popularize Hindu #raditions
We also need those who will do social work among the Hindu ,ommunities 2ut"
those who have interest in other general types of work" not directly related to
preservation of Hindu Dharma" should not mi/ their personal agenda in this forum $ut
select another forum for that We need to discuss a$out the -eadership development
and organization plans for the .ind* Sama% and various organizations working for the
Hindu ,ause" as ( see many of them duplicate or try to do all things for all without
concentrating like separate 2rigades working and competing for the common cause
Presently many organizations including 3HP" R!! and a hundred such organizations
are functioning #heir leaders who started did a very good ground work and prepared a
good $ase and many of their workers are doing a very good 'o$ 2ut" many youth who
are working in these areas seem to have utter confusion of their purpose and o$'ectives
and are not clear a$out the goals of each organization (f we go out to the general pu$lic
a$out these organizations" we see much less than ten percent support for any one
group" lots of misinformation and considera$le inter-group rivalry among themselves
1veryone wants to $e everything for every$ody -- all in good faith 2ut since we
are in this Maha Bharatha War of .1st century" we need reorganization like an army
1ach team should have defined areas of work and well defined goals and demarcated
lines of activities 1veryone has a personal idea or agenda and they mi/ it with the
organization" however good the idea may $e" they should keep it separate and not to
ruin our main agenda for Hindu Dharma 4or a crude e/ample" when one is trying to
protect #emple administration or 5aathi pro$lem in Hindu Dharma in a conference"
another one should not try to over shadow that with $ringing 6anges water to !outh
(ndia or prevention of ,ow slaughter or promoting Hindi or #amil as a -anguage - #hese
are not Hindu ,auses directly or indirectly" however important each one is for us *lso"
we should ask each organization to define a list of O$'ectives and everyone should
support those and not compete or hi'ack or ruin that 1veryone cannot do everything
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

/. Do we go with B*siness as *s*al or try any hanges-
#here are several organizations around the world working for the pu$lic cause While
most active mem$ers of these organizations may feel that they are all in good shape
with $usiness as usual and the situation keeps them in power and popularity" we often
get a &uestion why they do not have a mass support of the ma'ority
We need to use languages that are popular and avoid words that have $een
discredited We need to create awareness of true meaning of the catch phrases" and we
need to discredit the currently popular $ut unwanted ones" modify those slogans and
create new ones 7 as new and popular slogans that should $e the correct ones to use
1/amples8 .9 years $ack 7 !ocialism was popular 7 now it is gone% .9 years $ack 7
,apitalism was $ad 7 now not so much% .9 years $ack 7 Private sector was anti-people
7 now not so% :9 years $ack 7 ,ommunist !talin was a -eader to follow in (ndia% now
,ommunism even (ndia is only in the name 7 not of -enin type $ut more capitalistic
!o" we need plans to educate people to show ;not 'ust our own group< 7 We need to talk
and teach What is the true meaning of =Hindutva>? @ what is the true meaning of
=!ecular>? Popularity for new theories and new leadership comes from popular and new
slogans #he leader should steel the limelight from the other politicians $y new ideas
Better still: #ry to use new terms until the time is right and people are ready for it
=Pro-active !ecularism? vs =*nti-Hindu !ecularism?% and =Aational? vs =anti-national?
How a$out using Hindu Rashtra and Hindu !ama'% - =we need to form a Hindu Rashtra?
=We are a Aational group or Aational Political Party following a Pro-active !ecularism?
Pro-*ctive !ecularism" as opposed to the *theistic anti-Hindu !ecularism" which is
$eing misused $y the opportunistic politicians to support ,hristians" +uslims"
,ommunists and anti-people politicians" is used to esta$lish their own corrupt politics
#his is the =#rue !ecularism? 7 that will not interfere into any religion and all are e&ual
,ommunism as practiced in (ndia is AO# a political ideology $ut an atheistic philosophy
of enslaving the working class to a $lind following of the leaders with empty hopes
(slam" as practiced and followed is AO# a Religious Philosophy $ut a political ideology
of enslaving people to the thoughts and ideas of their local leaders misleading them
However" we must remind all leaders that however great we have certain ideals and
programs are" they are of no use and they cannot $e implemented unless we have
popular support and all ideals $ecome useless !o" there is a need to $e realistic
*s for (ndian ,hristians and (ndian +uslims as opposed to 4oreign and (ndian
+issionaries as well as Pakistani" (ranian and *ra$ +uslims in (ndia we must play a
proper card to separate them #here are many of them who are neutral and if we play
our cards well" they will $e neutral and support us (f we oppose all of them as one
group as anti-Hindus" those people will 'oin forces as one group We must remind the
leaders of the attitude taken $y $oth the Protestant churches and the ,atholics took
during HitlerBs A*C( 6ermany -they pretended to protect the 5ews secretly" $ut in the
process converted most of them to ,hristianity - like +adeline *l$right #hey played
neutral" got the name of the good guys and succeeded in the cause of proselytizing

0. What do we need to do to gain pop*lar s*pport-
We need proper 1eam leadership and also a set o" ommitted gro*p mem$ers.
We need organizations to de"ine their p*rpose and goal and s*pport eah other.
2rom the mistakes we gain e3periene and "rom e3periene we get s*ess.
4nity gets strength and Strength $egets more strength and that leads to 5itory.
678*al #ights and !rivileges !rogram9 to $ring all 5aathis and 3arnas work together%
6#et*rn Bak to .ind* #oots !rogram9 for all (ndian non-Hindus to come $ack and
6Seek the path o" .ind* Dharma !rogram9 other nationals who wants to come in
Here is my idea #he leadership should define the o$'ective and propagate this to all
their group mem$ers and get a solid support #eam -eaders can discuss a$out what are
the various 0Realistic0 areas of activities we need to work on and divide them as groups
like army divisions #here are many like areas of pu$lic education on Hindu Dharma"
#emple management" teaching of 3edas" fighting against 6overnment" training of Hindu
volunteers for a self protection force" fighting or protecting against ,hristian
+issionaries" protection against the (slamic (nvasion #hey are all individual and
separate areas of activities and one organization can not handle all of them We need
several leaders to define the 'o$" lead and work in cooperation *nyone who has a
personal agenda for any other activity can do it outside this organization
What are the true priorities on which we must spend our energies at this time>
Do we give all our support to one or two Political parties as a group or do we openly
e/press support to political candidates who are =sympathetic? to our cause at all levels>
While supporting Hindu Parties" can also we plan to split the monolithic groups in the
!ecular parties" communists and Regional parties and identify those who are supporting
our views and split our support and opposition to some candidates in election> Do you
want to list openly all ,hristians" +uslims" atheists and communists as a whole as *nti-
Hindu or keep them on separate lists as anti-(ndian or as *lien supporters 7 for strategic
purpose> How do you tolerate ,hristians appointed as Principals" 3ice-,hancellors and
*dministrators of Hindu schools" universities and organizations and let them create anti-
Hindu activities there> How do you defend against anti-Hindu activities of government>
5ust like Regional Political parties" the -eaders should plan regional Hindu
groups and organization to attend to the local needs #here are several Hindus who
have friends who are non-Hindus $ut the good ones +aking a generalized statement
against other religions will reduce support from them -anguage is a very sensitive
su$'ect and as a Hindu group we should avoid opinions on the language issues e/cept
perhaps !anskrit as a link language and not to talk on Aational -anguage or against
1nglish at this stage (f any-one talks a$out it" that should $e considers as opinion of the
individual worker or the regional organization talking a$out ones mother tongue not of
the Aational Hindu Organization #he leaders should keep &uiet on this topic and
support all groups !imilarly" they must take realistic and neutral views for 5aathi and
3arna pro$lems #hey must $e supportive of the sentiments of $oth the conservative
and li$eral groups of all classes and try to unite all of them
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4
4
:. What do we need to do "or o*r Dharma and "or o*r Soiety-
#he -eaders of the various organizations working for Hindu Rashtra should meet
together once a year in a 'oint-session like the *charya !a$ha as initiated $y Pu'yasri
Dhayananda !araswathi !wami'i #hey should discuss to sort out the strategies"
o$'ectives and plans in a closed session and also meet and talk in an open meeting We
need to arrange for a =#hink #ank? formed among leaders to meet periodically to plan
proper strategies and once decided all should a$ide $y the decisions and work on them
While the volunteer workers in various groups can associate themselves in more than
group of activities" the leaders should confine and concentrate on one set of o$'ectives
and work for those causes #he workers" if they are interested in any other cause" they
should not mi/ that with the Hindu group activities in the same time #hey should not
mi/ the pro$lems or use the platform of Hindu organizations for their personal agenda
#his must $e controlled and governed $y the leaders properly #he controversial
persons should $e asked to confine to one or the other" however dear they feel a$out it
!imilarly" the leaders should not insist on their personal social ha$its or *chaaras
on the group and say =if you donDt do it this way you are not a true Hindu? While" for
e/ample" vegetarianism is a no$le thing for a spiritually evolved Hindu that should not
$e the ideal for all Hindus !imilarly" alcohol and smoking is not advised" $ut that should
not $e made as a litmus test and say they are not true Hindus (t is $etter not to take a
stand on these items at this time #he mem$ers will change as they spiritually evolve
!imilarly" dress code" so long as it is decent" is not a priority at this time to work on We
have to make sure that the leaders do not act as a religious police like #ali$ans on the
Hindus daily life" li$erty and pursuit of happiness
While many Hindu leaders and workers are talking a$out cultural pro$lems and
trivial things in the society" they should find an answer to the real pro$lems that is really
affecting the Hindu Dharma Orphans and handicapped need adoption and support" and
if we do not provide" the missionaries are waiting there We need to work on social
uplifting for !cheduled castesEtri$es" +2,s" O2,s and the very poor and the
handicapped and support them without hurting the others 1ducational programs and
!ocial service work in city slums and villages are a must for all Hindus 3illages need
clean and safe water supply and also proper health education !o" while the leaders try
to form the organizations and plan their o$'ectives" there must $e a place for all these
We need to develop a 199 percent support of all Hindus in (ndia in the political
field to support pro-Hindu mem$ers in any political party We need to support the social
activities for the development and uplifting of the poor Hindus We also need to develop
a discussion group to analyze if there is a pro$lem in the leadership" in the team leaders
or the grass root mem$ers We need to analyze the o$'ectives and areas of activity to
esta$lish a proper Hindu !ama' and a glorious Hindu Rashtra We need to propagate
Hindu Dharma among the Hindu masses with a realistic approach While any group
may have several active workers" if the cause is proper" they can get sympathetic
support of all mem$ers of the community We need a 199F support of the community
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5
5
;. What is !ositive planning "or Leadership development-
+any are talking mostly of the pro$lems of the recent past or the glory of the
ancient past and often stop short of even thinking a$out a solution or an action plan
#here is no need to talk $ad a$out other religious faiths *fter all" they are doing their
'o$ right and in a very smart way as they are ordained or ordered to do and now we
need to do ours We can have one group to watch over the activities of other religions
We should never attack or talk ill among our own groups or sections while 'oining hands
with other religious groups to fight with another section of Hindu community (n an
essence" we must think" talk and act positive only" as negative ation $egets "ail*re
What we need to do is a plan of action and organization of all our efforts with a
realistic thinking and a strategic planning to reach our ideals" $ut not 'ust in the idealistic
way We need discipline to prepare such a strategy and a follow the plan We need a
good command and control $y the leadership We need a discipline for the workers and
group mem$ers to follow the plan" keeping aside their own ideas and alternate and
independent thinking +eetings organized $y the leaders periodically should e/plain the
plan and retrain people from giving out emotional out$ursts #hey must keep their
priorities properly in order and not to waste their energies in trivial things )nity among
all Hindu Dharma followers should $e the most important !urvival of the Hindu
population and esta$lishment of Hindu Rashtra should $e the $asic aim and only goal
#hey must have the following principles in their work and organization8
1 ,losed loop communications 7 discuss all information%
. ,lear messages to $e given 7 proper O$'ectives%
G ,lear roles and responsi$ilities assigned%
: 1veryone must know oneDs limitations%
H Inowledge sharing 7 e/change of ideas%
J !pecific orders and plans of *ction%
K 4ollowing orders and actions with full support
L ,onstructive interventions 7 Aew (deas%
M Re-evaluation and !ummarizing%
19 +utual Respect for all mem$ers of the team
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<. What is Organizational Networking-
We all need to work as a team in cooperation" with each one have his or her own
assigned duties and not to mess up with each others work -et us follow the principles
of coordination and cooperation for the survival of the community 1ach group of active
organizations" their district entities and the grass-root mem$ers should recognize and
have a team leader and a set of team mem$ers at various levels #he position of team
leaders should $e on rotational $asis and not assigned to one mem$er or one family
#he small organizations in each and every small city with similar goals should form a
network or unite and ad'ust their o$'ectives if needed
6
6
Aow" we must analyze and consider what is needed of the #eam -eadership
and of the #eam +em$ers of each group and of their o$'ectives and directions We must
consider what is lacking and what will get strength and popular support without diluting
our principles and at the same time get the needed strength to keep the ideals of Hindu
Dharma #he leaders should have strength through clear support from the grass roots"
proper knowledge and understanding of the o$'ectives and should $e prepared to leave
aside their personal opinions" desires and attachments for the sake of the common
cause #he -eaders should $e a$le to work in cooperation with other Hindu
organizations working on other aspects of the o$'ectives in their group as well as other
similar groups While each group should get clear limitations of o$'ectives and not to
take up the work of other groups in the same region" different groups can work on
similar type of activities in different regions 1/ample will $e8 the group that works for
#emples and religious education should not work on political party work or community
defense training or fighting with +issionaries or (slamic activities *t the same time more
than one group can $e formed in different parts of the country or for different types of
religious $eliefs for working with #emple activities" educational work and youth training
work" $ut without competing or fighting with each other
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Needs o" the ho*r and "or the "*t*re:
#ealisti &lear approah and Strategi !lanning
O$%etives and =oals to $e analyzed and listed
#eam -eaders for each group and each area or zone as well as national leaders
should $e elected or selected with concurrence for committed leadership &ualities and
for efficiency in directing and controlling the followers and volunteers E work-force
-eaders should have periodic conferences and conventions to discuss the o$'ectives"
policies and procedures among the leadership groups and among the workers to get
proper grass root support and proper support from other groups of different areas of
activities -eaders should develop and earn the respect and confidence of the mem$ers
in all their programs and plans and discuss with mem$ers -eaders should not mi/ their
pro'ects which are not directly related to the Hindu Dharma causes in their agenda
#eam +em$ers should study and understand the principles" o$'ectives and
limitations of their group activities and o$ey and follow the directives of the leaders for
the good cause +em$ers should realize that they should not mi/ any of their personal
pro'ects along with the national Hindu Dharma causes in their activities and will not get
support from the leadership for any personal activity especially if they do not get mass
support 1ach Hindu organization and their leaders can take up one or more of the
group of activities outlined as their total o$'ective and also work with other groups for
the total success 2oth leaders and mem$ers should act and perform such actions as a
service to Hindu causes without harming the society at large or in'uring the Hindu
