I currently use the writing requirements for our program review with my

primary focus for students being writing to learn and writing to demonstrate
learning. The textbook used for 6
th
grade math at our school is Math in
Focus by Marshall Cavendish which is commonly known as Singapore
Math. Although this is the textbook we have, I use many materials that are
not from the textbook. I find worksheets for the students and will make those
into hands on activities for the students. I will also regularly have students
take notes and create activities in their math journals that help explain math
vocabulary. My current practice does not include an abundance of reading
opportunity. Often our reading opportunities are typically reading from the
textbook or reading problems out loud to the class. I do spend a lot of time
making sure the students understand what is being asked when we are
working through problems.

Although I have several roles at SCAPA, I do not have a permanent
classroom. Both of my math classes are taught in a social studies/language
arts classroom. My twenty-nine student computer class is most often held in
a computer lab with a computer for every student. However, when the MAP
testing window is open, I am often displaced and need to move my
students to two other locations and I am split my time between those
locations. I do not select books to move around on a cart with me or try to
find a space to house the books in the shared classrooms. Also, with only 45
minutes for each class, I do not give specific time for reading during class.

The majority of my students of my students are involved in the school plays
or various other art performances throughout the year. When the productions
are going on, I typically have students describe mathematically what is
going on. Set design, lighting, practice, music selection, etc. My current
practice consists of making real-world connections for students.

With the Technology Grant that our school received to help our students
improve math scores. My math students are on the computer (laptop) almost
daily. Unless there is a major scheduling conflict, my computer students
have access daily. The following table displays non-print materials that I
currently use:
