The Approval Workflow Engine: What is it?
Standard PeopleSoft workflow requires advanced technical
skills in PeopleTools and PeopleCode to create and maintain
workflow.
The PeopleSoft Approval Workflow Engine provides an
alternative workflow that is easier to use and maintain.
Applications that use the Approval Workflow Engine deliver a
transaction workflow process with the underlying
PeopleCode, transaction events, email templates and
approval pages already defined.
PeopleSoft pages are used to define the criteria which trigger
a workflow event.
Approval Workflow Engine (AWE)A Brief History
The AWE was originally introduced in the 8.8 release of
PeopleSofts Supply Chain Management (SCM) applications:
eProcurement and Services Procurement to make it easier for
customers to implement and manage requisition approval
workflow.
The AWE was extended in 8.9 to include FIN/SCM applications:
Strategic Sourcing, Expenses, Promotions Management and
Supplier Contracts
In 9.0 the AWE was extended to include the FIN/SCM
application: Work Order Management and HCM applications:
eProfile, eProfile Manager, Job Profile Manager, Absence
Management, Recruiting, ELM, and ePerformance.

The Approval Workflow Engine:
The PeopleSoft Approval Workflow Engine provides an alternative
workflow that is easier to use and maintain than legacy workflow.
Applications using the Approval Workflow Engine deliver a
transaction workflow process with the underlying PeopleCode,
transaction events, email templates and approval pages already
defined.
Customers use PeopleSoft pages to define the criteria which trigger
a workflow event.
An approval Process ID is made up of stages, paths and steps which
allow transaction approval processes to be processed in parallel or
serial.
The Approval Workflow Engine is used differently by different
applications depending on the type of transaction approval process
required .
