Why should humans continue eating meat?

In the modern world, there are more and more controversies on whether meat should be eaten as
groups like PETA often hold campaigns to convince people to stop eating meat. This is because
most animals are treated poorly and unethically because meat producers want to increase their
profits. However, because of these reasons, should people stop eating meat and turn vegetarian
And is the production of vegetables as ethical as you e!pect This argument summary will provide
reasons on why meat should continue to be eaten.
"eat is an essential part of a human#s diet as it provides nutrients in which vegetables don#t have or

is a an essential vitamin re(uired in our bodies for cell division
and blood formation. It is found in red meats like beef, eggs and some types of fish like salmon. It

because it contains sufficient amounts of this vitamin, reducing the chances of any brain damage,
anaemia or other severe illnesses. 0o matter what some critics say about animal cruelty, meat
should definitely be consumed on a regular basis in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In addition,

essential for our body.
Even though eating meat does provide important nutrients in which most vegetables does not
contain, should animal rights be completely ignored There are much controversies currently
regarding on whether humans should continue to eat meat due to the concerns of animal in1ustice.
Animal in1ustice such as factory farming are often practiced in the modern world, due to the
increasing demand of meat, especially in countries like 2hina. Philosophers argue that animals have
rights for such reasons like 3they have similar biological comple!ity4 and reasons like 3they are
conscious and know what is happening to them4. *.cruton, '+++- However, according to an article
on the %%2, 3/ight holders must have the ability to differentiate between their own interests and
what is correct, and must also have the ability to recogni5e one#s obligations.4 *%%2, '+&,-
Philosopher Immanuel 6ant also supports this idea where he believed that 3animals were sentient
and could suffer but denied that we had any direct moral obligations to animals because they were
neither rational nor self7aware.4 *8rancione, '+&,- This means that animals do have feelings and
could perceive different things too, but humans do not have direct responsibility for their wellbeing
as they#re irrational and lacked self7awareness. Therefore, animals don#t actually have rights
because they don#t have obligations and cannot differentiate between interests and what is correct,
so humans and animals cannot be treated as e(uals
However, with that being said, animals do have feelings, things like factory farming should be
reduced because animals inside are treated in a horrible manner, where animals can be kept in
cages, given drugs so they can grow (uicker and also genetically modified so more eggs and milk
can be produced. These processes in factory farming are inhumane and should definitely be
reduced. In my perspective, animals don#t have rights and meat should continue to be eaten, but to a
smaller portion. )e should eat meat that are from more humane methods such as animals that are
killed accidentally on the road or from a livestock because the methods of factory farming is
definitely inhumane.
Eating meat does not always have to be inhumane, it can actually have a very ethical side as well,
even though eating meat can be considered as unethical to some because of how poorly some
animals are treated in cases like factory farming mentioned previously. There are reasons to why
eating meat can also be very ethical. 8or e!ample, beef is the meat of cows, the cow#s food is grass
and the grass#s food is water and sunlight. To simplify this, a food chain can highlight this
.unlight 779 grass 779 cows779 humans.
8rom this, it can be shown that it is a very natural process. :n the other hand, eating vegetables
gives a vast ma1ority of people the impression that it is very ethical compared to eating meat, they
do not know that some vegetables can be made in a very unethical way. *%ost, '+&,- Tofu is made
from soybeans and it is an essential part of a vegetarian#s diet as it provides some nutrients which
meat has and other vegetables doesn#t have. However, the production of tofu re(uires tractors,
machines for processing and packaging and shipping before it can reach humans. The amount of
fossil fuels to produce vegetables like tofu can be high, creating pollution and damaging the Earth#s
environment, also contributing to global warming, directly affecting humans. Therefore, consuming
some types of vegetables like tofu can actually be more unethical than eating beef, again showing
why eating meat is not something as unethical as some people e!pect.
