Iwanttofirstofall,thankthepeopleatNintendoforcreatingthisvideogameclassicwhichI
havefondmemoriesofplayingformanyhoursduringmyearlyteenyearsandwayintomy20s.Iwant
toespeciallythankthecomposer,KondoKoji,forcomposingsuchmemorabletuneswhichwillremain
withinustothosewhohaveplayedthiswonderfulgameseries.
IfirstheardthepianoarrangementsoftheSuperMarioseriesontheinternetplayedbyThe
BlindfoldedPianist,a.k.a.MartinLeung,about45yearsbackandIwasthrilledtohearthesegemson
thepiano.Asmostofthepeopleprobablydid,IlookedforthesheetmusicbutIcouldntfindthe
completetranscriptions/arrangementsforthepianoexcepttheonesavailabledonebyMartin.Itwas
recentlythatIwatchedMartinsperformancevideoagainanditwasthenwhenIdecidedifIcouldnt
purchasethescoresIlldomyowntranscriptionsandarrangements.SoitisMr.MartinLeungthatI
owemyinspirationtodomyowntranscriptionsofthesemusicalgems.
SinceIcouldntfindanyOfficiallypublishedmusicscoresfortheseBMG(BackgroundMusic)
fortheSuperMarioseries,Ididmysearchesonthenetandgotmyhandsonmanymidifilesandnsf
(NintendoSoundFormat)filestoplayandtolisteninordertonotatethemusic.Asfornotatingthe
music,IusedSibeliusnotationsoftwaretomakethescores.
Ithastakenmemanyhourslistening,transcribing,arranging,notating,andeditingthescores.I
havetriedtobeasfaithfultotheoriginalmusicaspossiblewithsomeadditionalelaborationsand
extensionsdonebyme.Asforthelevelofperformancedifficulty,mostoftheseareHARD!Iarranged
theseasConcertTranscriptions,whichareusuallytechnicallyverydifficultandneedstobepracticed
verydiligently.Withdiligentandhardpractice,theresultofyourlaborshouldbefruitful.Withthis
beingsaid,Ihopeyouenjoythesegems.
