OCTOPUS Drama Group are
very excited to announce that
they have been given permis-
sion by Sir Ben Elton and
Richard Curtis to perform
two episodes from the famous
and hilarious Blackadder Goes
Forth series, live on stage this
autumn.
The two episodes, Corpo-
ral Punishment and Goodbye
will be performed as part of
a show to commemorate the
First World War. The plays will
be directed by Sarah Cullyer,
a relatively new and very
enthusiastic member of the
Octopus group.
The remainder of the show,
which will be entitled Lest We
Forget, and will include songs,
poems and readings from the
war.
Director Alison Bagnall, as-
sisted by Jenny Dennis, has
been very busy researching
the First World War era and
has compiled an evening full
of pathos and humour which
depicts the British spirit and
the horrors of the war in equal
measure.
In 2008 Alison also wrote and
directed Spirits of the Past
which will long be remem-
bered as one of our most popu-
lar shows.
A thought-provoking even-
ing with touches of humour
and many songs that you will
recognise, and some that you
may not, this is a show not to
be missed.
Lest We Forget will run from
Wednesday, October 8, to Sat-
urday, October 11, at Christ
the King Church Hall (Porch
House), Thornbury. Perfor-
mances start at 7.30pm.
All proceeds will go to The
Royal British Legion.

Johnny Coppin to the
Chipping Hall in Wotton-
under-Edge this month.
Johnny is a singer/
songwriter and a founder
member of the band De-
cameron. He was in a duo
for many years with Phil
Beer from Show of Hands,
and now often gigs as a
duo with Mike Silver, or
with Paul Burgess. His
many solo albums include
Forest & Vale & High Blue
Hill, The Winding Stair,
Edge of Day with Laurie
Lee, and his latest CD Bor-
derland. His clear voice
together with his ability
to write fine songs makes
his music essentially Eng-
lish in character while,
at the same time having
universal appeal. The per-

A NEW female vicar in the
form of the wonderful Rev
Geraldine Granger is coming
to shake up Dursley.
Dursley Operatic and Dra-
matic Society is perform-
ing the stage version of the
much-loved TV sitcom, The
Vicar of Dibley, between Oc-
tober 8 to 11 at the Lister Hall.
The play has been adapted
from the original TV series
written by Richard Curtis
and Paul Mayhew-Archer
that was a long-running hit.
The play is a chance to re-
live the arrival of the new
vicar Geraldine Granger, be
a witness to Alice and Hugos
hilarious wedding, and meet
again the many eccentric in-
habitants of the quiet village
of Dibley such as Owen, Jim,
Frank and Letitia.
All royalties from the play
go to Comic Relief, which will
also be the DODS charity of
the year with collections at
each performance through-
out the 2014/15 season.
