The rain had started that morning at about 7am.

Paul had been trying to fix the holes in the roof for most of the
morning when he saw an old man walking up the road. He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw that he had a
set of wings on his back. He ran into the house to find his wife. 'Annie,' he said 'There is an old man walking
along the road who has wings!'
'Don't be silly,' his wife replied. 'You really are a crazy man sometimes.'
'I'm not imagining it - look, come outside and see!'
Thinking that her husband had gone mad, Annie went outside with him. By this time, the old man with wings
had walked into the village square where some of the villagers were sitting eating their lunch. They sat and
stared at the man, unable to believe their own eyes - they had never seen anything like it. While they were
staring, and wondering what to do, the priest came out of the church and walked towards the man.

'Who are you?' he asked. 'What do you want? How dare you come here pretending to be an angel with your
fake wings.'
'But I am an angel,' said the old man. 'And I need your help. My wings are damaged and I need somewhere to
rest so that they can heal.'
'Those are not real wings,' said the priest. 'Angels wings are spun with gold. These are just dirty feathers.'
The old man begged the priest. 'Please, let me stay in the church until my wings have healed.' But the priest
wouldnt believe him. No, go away! he shouted.

'You can stay with us,' said Paul. Annie looked at him in surprise. 'We have a barn you can stay in.'
Thank you, said the old man, and walked with them to their house. Paul showed him the barn, and gave him
some bread and water, and a blanket. He showed him where he could rest. Then he left the barn and locked
the door.

'Why did you say he could stay here?' asked Annie. 'We don't have enough food or money to look after
someone else!' She was angry, but Paul said, 'Listen, we can charge people a dollar to look at him when he is
in the barn! We can make lots of money that way and maybe we will make enough to fix the roof.'

So for two weeks people came to their barn and paid a dollar to look at the old man. Paul gave him food and
water every day, and made sure he had enough blankets to keep warm, but he always locked the barn door
behind him. One day, Annie took him his food and water. She looked at his wings and she looked in his eyes,
and as she left the barn, she put the key in her pocket and then closed the door behind her.

Paul was in the pig pen throwing scraps of food to the pigs when a shadow passed over him. He looked up and
saw the angel flying above. He turned towards the house and saw his wife waving and smiling as the Angel
disappeared over the trees and out of the village.
