MODULAR APPROACH IN MODERN WAY
Name of the teacher : Simi S Nair Name of the School : STTC, Mukkolakkal Subject : Biology Unit : After metabolism Topic : Excretion in other organism Standard : X Strength : 46/52 Date : 15.07.2014 Period : 2 nd Time : 40 mts
Curricular statement To attain knowledge about excretory system To understand different types of excretory organs in different animals To attain idea about the function of excretory organs Learning outcomes Remembering: - Learner recalling the organisms like amoeba, earth worm and cockroach. Understanding: The learner explains the function of excretory organ. Apply: - the learner gives reason how the excretory materials are different in different organs. Analyze: - The learner analyze the role of excretory organs in the body. Evaluate: - the learner judges the importance of the excretory organs. Create: - the learner plans to keep a healthy excretory function. Process skills The learner developing observation skill through observing excretory materials of different organism The learner comparing the mode of excretion of different animals. Content analysis Terms: - Amoeba, contractile vacuole, earthworm Nephridia, Malpighian tubule, ,
Facts 1. The excretory organs in amoeba is contractile vacuoles 2. Nephridia are the excretory organs in earth worm 3. Nephridia separate water and nitrogeneous waste from body cavity. 4. Excretory organs of insect are known as malpighian tubules 5. Malphegian tubule separate impurities from the body cavity and carry them to the alimentary canal from there they are expelled. 6. Malphegian tubule opens out into alimentary canal
Concept Major : Excretory organs Minor :- Excretory organ in Amoeba Pre requisites The learner already knows the kidneys are the excretory organs of higher animals The learner already knows kidney is absent in lower organisms .
Teaching learning resources A set of self learning module contains different excretory organs of different animals. A chart showing excretory organs of amoeba earthworm and cockroach Introduction These learning modules are about excretory organs of different organism. You may be familiar with this method of learning to arrange the learning aspects in the form of a small capsule you just go through it and try to do the activities given. Then answer the questions below. If you are correct in the first step you can go to the other capsule. But if you are wrong you can repeat the same capsule and try to answer the question correctly. Objective To attain the knowledge about excretory organs of different organisms To distinguish between the different form of excretory materials of animals Pretest What is excretory system? Which are the excretory organs in human? Answers Systems responsible for excretion of waste material from the body Kidney
AMOEBA Module No 1
In amoeba there are no excretory organs. Amoeba is a unicellular organism. Excretion is performed with the help of contractile vacuoles. Excess water that reaches the body is also expelled through the contractile vacuole
ACTIVITY NO: 1 ROLE PLAY Teacher calls some pupil and ask them to form like structure of amoeba by holding their hand and also ask to form nucleus, contractile vacuole etc. Teacher then ask to act as method of excretion in amoeba. Nucleus
Excretory material Contractile vacuole After the completion of role play teacher distribute some questions and ask pupil to answer the question.
Questions 1. Which is the excretory organ in Amoeba? 2. Point out contractive vacuole in the figure.
Teacher shows the excretory organ of earth worm and ask pupil carefully watch the excretory organ and understand the following questions and answer. Questions 1. Which is the excretory organ in earth worm? 2. How nephridia are seen in earth worm? 3. What is the function of nephridia? Answers 1. Nephridia 2. Each segment contains a pair of nephridia, which are ciliated and funnel shaped 3. Nephridia separate water nitrogenous wastes etc from the body cavity and expel them through the pores on the body surface.
Activity no 2 Teacher ask pupil to write down a brief note on the excretion of earth worm.
Pupils response Pupil tries to give a brief note as, Excretory organs in earth worm are called Nephredia. Each segment contains a pair of nephridium, which is ciliated and funnel shaped. Nephredia separate water, nitrogenous wastes etc from the body cavity and expel them through the pores on the body surface
INSECTS Module No 3
The excretory organs of insects are known as Malpighian tubules. They are minute tubes spread out in the body fluid that fills the body cavity and open out into the alimentary canal. Malpighian tubule separate impurities from the body fluid and carry them to the alimentary canal from where they are expelled.
ACTIVITY NO: 3 Teacher explains each point and asks them to find out some questions from the given paragraph of excretion in cockroach and conduct a quiz competition. Pupil response Pupils do so Questions 1. Which is the excretory organ in insets? 2. What is the feature of malpighian tuble? 3. Where from malpighian tubule separate impurities? 4. Malpighian tubule open out into .. 5. How Malpighian tubule function?
Answers 1. Malpighian tubule 2. They are minute tubes spread out in the body fluid and opens out into alimentary canal. 3. Body fluid
4. Alimentary canal 5.Malpighian tubule spread in body fluid and separate imparities from the body fluid and carry them to the alimentary canal from there they are expelled
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT 1. Which are the excretory organs of earthworm? 2. Which are the excretory organs of insects? 3. Which are the excretory materials of tadpole?
FOLLOW UP ACTIVITY Draw the excretory organ of amoeba ,earth worm and cockroach in your science diary
