On the other side of the coin, what is the potential downside to entrepreneurialism at the middle

management level in HCOs? As far as upper management is concerned, what might be some of
the risks that entrepreneurial middle managers pose? Provide an example or two.
Upon completion of school, I would like to work with the elderly either in an assisted
living environment or skilled nursing setting. Our elderly population is the fastest growing
population. We need to make sure that this group of people receives the best care possible that is
provided with the utmost respect. Joining an association like the American Health Care
association would provide up-to-date information regarding laws and regulations effecting
skilled nursing facilities and connections to others working with the same demographic of
patients. The associations encourages members to become advocates for the community and
assistance with joining those groups (Associate Business Members, 2014.). I would enjoy
working with advocates for the aging community to ensure their safety and happiness.
An entrepreneur is a person that creates a new enterprise, venture, or business. This
person assumes the accountability for the risks associated with the venture and the outcome as a
result (Silvestri, n.d.). Entrepreneurialism is the development of advanced innovations and
technologies in the field of health, education, and research (Silvestri, n.d.) Entrepreneurialism
works to maintain fairness, teamwork, core values and ethical principles (Silvestri, n.d.).
Middle management is the connection between upper management and those that do the
actual work. The middle managers are able to see the mistakes or errors that occur and are able
to provide insight and innovation to remedy those problems (Burns, Bradley & Weiner, 2012).
Middle management is not always privy to the same information as the C-suite, such as
overall budget and exact goals of a facility.
