The demography of Japan shows that
during 19th and 20th centuries there was
high growth in population which has been

and almost no immigration.

is about 85.7 years.
Japan has the highest number of
elderly citizens in the whole world.
RELIGION
The major religion in the city of Tokyo is Shintoism.
Two major shrines in the city are Meiji Jingu and
Yasukuni Shrine.
However, the population of Tokyo and Japan has
become less and less religious over the years.
Some may say, though, that the way of life and the
community of the city are a form of religion in and
of itself, despite no official religious organization.

SPORTS
There are three major professional sports in
the city of Tokyo:
baseball, football (American soccer), and
sumo wrestling.
The Tokyo Dome, the Ajinomoto Stadium,
the Japan Sumo Associations headquarters
are located in Tokyo, where tournaments are
hosted every year.

EDUCATION
Tokyo has many universities, junior colleges,
and vocational schools. Many of Japan's most
prestigious universities are in Tokyo,
including University of Tokyo, Hitotsubashi
University, Tokyo Institute of
Technology,Waseda University, and Keio
University.
Tokyo is also the headquarters of the United
Nations University.

CULTURE
Tokyo has many museums. In Ueno Park, there is
the Tokyo National Museum, the country's largest.
Tokyo has many theatres for performing arts. These
include national and private theatres for traditional
forms of Japanese drama.
Many different festivals occur throughout Tokyo.
Cuisine in Tokyo is internationally acclaimed.
