joinery using traditional craftsmanship with an

SIBERIAN LARCH: Laminated knot-free (clear grade)
engineered timber sourced from Europe. A premium quality
timber offering natural durability, strength and superb surface
for paint adhesion.
EUROPEAN REDWOOD: Selected for tight grain.
Sourced from colder northern regions.
DOUGLAS FIR: Knot-free (clear grade).
Sourced from North America and Canada.
HARDWOOD: Used for cill sections. Note that the
appearance of hardwood will differ to that of other timber with
the grain more prominent. Contemporary tilt turn/sliding &
folding doors use painted premium quality softwood timber
cills & cill extensions.
MODIFIED TIMBER
A number of processes are now available which modify various
timber species. These processes produce high performance with
excellent environmental credentials. Mumford & Wood use
modified timber where it enhances product performance.
NHBC REQUIREMENTS
All timbers have a desired life of 30 years in compliance with
NHBC requirements.
BSI Window Energy Ratings (WER)
National scheme to help rate the energy efficiency of windows
and managed by the British Standards Institute.
Mumford & Wood can offer A-B rated products
where indicated.
ENERGY SAVINGS RECOMMENDED (ESR)
This mark has been established by the Energy Saving Trust to
distinguish the most energy efficient products. The certification
is managed by the EST and backed by the government.
The ESR mark applies to those products where indicated.
TIMBER WINDOW ACCREDITATION SCHEME (TWA)
Windows made with certified timber from sustainable and
legal forests as recognised by CPET, the Governments Central
Point of Expertise on Timber. Stringent criteria must be met in all
aspects including performance and environmental credentials.
The scheme is managed by the British Woodworking Federation.
SECURED BY DESIGN (SBD)
This is the UK police flagship initiative which aims to design-out
crime. The products indicated have passed the required tests and
meet the requirement to carry the SBD badge.
KITEMARKED PRODUCTS
The products where indicated carry Kitemarks and are audited by
the BSI.
QUALITY ASSURANCE ISO 9001
Mumford & Wood are ISO 9001 registered in respect of our
quality management system.
ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATION ISO 14001

THERMAL INSULATION OR U-VALUE
The insulation of a window is measured in W/m
2
K. This is a
thermal calculation of the combined material properties of the
outer frame, sash, glass and glass unit spacer. Timber is an
excellent insulator and therefore provides good insulation
values, particularly in combination with double glazing.
All product U-values and WER will meet current Building
Regulations.

Our Conservation sash windows offer the perfect solution for
new build projects thanks to their flush reveal installation and
current part L Building Regulations compliance.
They also offer a lower cost
alternative for refurbishment of
older style properties where the
traditional Conservation box sash
mechanism is not considered
essential.

EXTENDED CILLS
Hardwood extensions to standard flush cill available in
projections of 35mm, 60mm or 85mm.
DECORATIVE LINER MOULDING
Windows with external linings are plain edged as standard
but are available with a decorative moulding to match sash
profile if required.
WIDE LININGS
Available on the Conservation sash to project beyond the solid
outer frame. Contact our Sales Office for details.
SASH EASY CLEAN
Conservation sash can be fitted with a slide/tilt mechanism to
the lower sash only.
SASH HORNS
A 63mm long standard shape horn as shown can be provided
to top sash only. Optional shapes available on request.
SASH CATCH
As an alternative to brass available in polished or satin chrome.
CHILD RESTRICTOR
Self engaging restrictor for the bottom sash.
TRICKLE VENT
Fitted to top sash rail to provide 4600EA opening and
consisting of an internal operator and external canopy with
integral fly screen. Standard finish is white; brown also
available. Not available on windows under 569mm wide, or
691mm wide on box sash windows. Not available on shaped-
head windows. Canopy supplied loose for site fitting by others.
SECURITY WINDOW LOCK
The security lock has two integral bolts that may be extracted
separately, or together for additional security with the key
provided.
SASH LIFTS
Sash lifts are provided boxed for site fixing to bottom sash rails
by others. As an alternative to brass available in polished or satin
chrome.
SASH PULLS
If required, these can be provided boxed for site fixing to
underside of upper sash meeting rail. Choice of brass, polished
or satin chrome.

SLIDING SIDELIGHTS
To provide additional ventilation, sidelights to triple width units
can be sliding if required without change of mullion sizes on
spring-balanced Conservation sash products. Conservation box
sash windows will require a wider boxed mullion.
BAY WINDOWS
Standard and made-to-measure windows can be fully factory
assembled into square 90 degree or splayed 45 degree bays to
our standard details. Specific dimensions and drawings are
needed from the customer at time of enquiry.
Larger glazed units are recommended to be prepared only for
site linking to reduce handling weight. Ask our Sales Office for
relevant data sheet.
FRAME GROOVING
Sundry grooving to jamb & head both internally and
externally to allow for reveal liners. Please supply details of
requirements.
FRAME LINKING
Windows can be factory linked up to 3.5 meters maximum
overall length using a common cill and head. Consideration
should be given to the handling weight and access to the fixing
position by the customer. In many cases, it is preferable to have
smaller units for site linking by others.
GLASS
Wide choice of optional glass types including obscure,
toughened etc., are available.
It is a current requirement of Building Regulations that glazed areas:
a. within 800mm of finished floor level are of toughened safety glass.
There are different safety requirements between domestic and
commercial applications, where a barrier may also be required.
b. within a horizontal plane of 300mm from a door opening are of
toughened safety glass.
Glass will be quoted as our standard or as specifically requested
by the customer. We strongly advise specifiers to check current
Building Regulation requirements and specify glazing accordingly.

patterns. For the new code substitute the centre alpha two digit

size to suit brick modules where possible.
Scale drawings are 1:100.
Sidelights to triple width units are fixed as standard; intermediate
frame mullions are 64mm thick inside with a 44mm option.
MADE-TO-MEASURE
Available to suit all requirements for new build and renovation.
SEMI-CIRCULAR SLIDING WINDOWS
These are designed for both sashes to slide with the meeting
rail division where shown. For efficient operation semi-circular
sliding windows are subject to some design considerations,
and we recommend contact with our Sales Office for further
advice prior to specification. Fixed sashes are available at
reduced cost.
SEMI-CIRCULAR FIXED LIGHTS
Suitable for fixing over square headed sash windows. Glazing
is direct into frame. Can be direct glazed or a fixed sash option.
CONSERVATION BOX SASH
Patterns for Conservation box sash are available as shown but
overall size of window is increased to accommodate the box
sections. Width + 120mm, Height + 60mm, code suffix B.
For example 09GS10 in box sash form would be 09GS10B
size 1020mm wide x 1105mm high.

Made from the highest grade timber, our Conservation historic box
sash windows are designed to replicate and replace original period
windows down to the very finest detail.
They are manufactured as single glazed frames with hand-faced
external putty and 4mm toughened glass. Period sheet glass is
available at an additional cost to recreate historic imperfections.
Each window is bespoke in size, pattern and with profile preference
of Georgian, Gothic, Victorian or Queen Anne ovolo, to precisely
mimic the originals.
The natural choice for existing buildings and listed properties*,
these windows operate using pre-stretched nylon cords, brass pulleys
and weights and traditional catches and pull handles.

USES
Fitted with a mobility threshold as standard, these doorsets are
suitable for most new buildings and renovation projects.
CONSTRUCTION
Heavy 57mm thick door sections with wide rails and muntins
to Conservation ovolo or lambs tongue profiles. Panels are
exterior grade 45mm thick composite insulated "warm"
construction with a U-value of 1.2 W/m

K featuring raised and
fielded profiles both sides.
OPERATION
Factory hung doorset with key operated multi-point locking
system.
GLAZING
Factory fitted double glazing where appropriate. Alternatively,

MOBILITY
Part M2 Building Regulations requires that all new dwellings
should have at least one accessible entrance.
To achieve adequate access any such door frame should be
specified with a low level aluminium threshold.
The frame width must achieve a minimum clear opening of
800mm for new build and 775mm for refurbishment between
open we would recommend an overall frame size of 985mm
with a 68mm frame.
ESCAPE
Part B1 Building Regulations, effective from 20.1.2000
2.7 - All habitable rooms in the upper storey(s) of a house
served by one staircase should be provided with a window or
external door which complies with paragraph 2.11.
2.11 - The window should have an unobstructed openable area
that is at least 0.33m
2
and at least 450mm wide and 450mm
high. The bottom of the openable area must not be more than
1100mm above the floor. To comply with regulations the
minimum effective opening is 450mm x 750mm in either
direction.
Escape window regulations may vary between different
UK regions check before specifying.
