INTRODUCTION


1.1 AUTHORIZATION:

The present report based on the students feedback on the current education
system was approved and authorized by His Excellency Humaid Mohammad
Al Qutami, Minister of Education, UAE on 07
th
December, 2013.

1.2 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:

The Ministry of Education, UAE has always engineered its education system
to prepare future citizens for a productive life in a dynamic world to ensure
sustainable development for the society. Moreover, Dubai winning the
World Expo 2020 bid with the theme slogan of Connecting Minds,
Creating the Future has brought the education system to the forefront of
U.A.Es agenda.
On 5
th
December 2013, broad-sweeping changes to the education system
were announced after a brainstorming Cabinet retreat led by Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. Therefore, the
Ministry of Education, U.A.E. wishes to identify major issues with the
current education system.

In light of the above discussion, a survey was taken to identify and enlist the
major issues with the education system.

1.3 SCOPE:

The survey was conducted among the students of BITS Pilani-Dubai
Campus. Representation of all engineering disciplines and batches was
ensured.

1.4 LIMITATIONS :

As mentioned above the survey was limited to just one educational
institute, as a consequence of which only one education system was part of
the purview of the study. The data was not collected from students of
educational institutions and systems due to the time constraints.

1.5 METHODS AND SOURCES OF DATA COLLECTION:

The present report is based on the data collected by means of a survey
through questionnaire. A questionnaire (refer to APP A) containing 12
questions was distributed through e-mail to 500 students studying in BITS
Pilani-Dubai Campus. The students belong to all 4 years of engineering
education. Out of 500 only 422 students responded to the questionnaire.
Later 200 students of 422 were interviewed i.e. around 50 from each batch.

1.6 OBJECTIVE:

The report based on the data obtained through survey aims at:
Ascertaining and enlisting the major issues with the current
education.
Recommending appropriate mitigative and reformatory measures to
address these issues.

1.7 REPORT PREVIEW:

Besides Introduction, the report contains 3 sections. Section 2 gives the
Analysis of the major drawbacks in the current education system. Section 3
Sums up the discussion and shows the Results whereas Section 4 contains
Suggestions and Recommendations.
