Construction to take place on
Upper Rd. and Greenfield
Drive week of October 6 and 13
During the week of October 6
and October 13 traffic patterns will
change on Greenfield Drive and
Upper Road during construction of
projects that are part of the feder-
ally funded Nonmotorized Trans-
portation Pilot Program awarded
to Sheboygan County and three
other communities around the
country in 2005.
Sheboygan County received up
to $25 million over four years to
develop a network of non-motor-
ized transportation facilities that
connect neighborhoods, retail cen-
ters, schools, recreation amenities,
and employment centers for the
purpose of encouraging people to
change the way they choose to
move around through their daily
lives.
The Village of Kohlers portion
of the project includes paving the
shoulders on both sides of CTH Y
between Greenfield Dr. and CTH
O, a pedestrian crossing on Green-
field from the school to Ebben
Field, and a multi-use pathway
connecting the southern end of
Ebben Field to Woodlake Road.
During the week of October 6,
Upper Road will be closed just to
the east of the school exit and be-
fore the Orchard/Orchard Ct. inter-
section. Greenfield Drive will be
completely closed for the week of
October 13, and traffic will be di-
verted to Upper Road.
During construction a temporary
four-way stop sign will be placed
at the intersection of Greenfield
Drive and West Park Lane to help
slow down traffic and reroute it
when necessary.

pictures were taken in the Village
of Kohler. The students not only
learned about exposure and unique
perspectives, but they had a chance
to highlight beauty of the Village.
Professionally matted and framed
with the help of renowned artist,
Cassy Tully, they are designed to
fit in anyones home. We have
some incredibly gifted students
and its a treat to showcase a sam-
ple of that talent at the Fall Follies.
The Art department is gaining mo-
mentum and it is rewarding to see
these kids excited to learn, then
turn around and share it with the
community that inspires them,
says Kohler High School Art
teacher, Jonathan Wheeler.
The 50/50 raffle is back again
year. Tickets are available at $10 /

The Kohler School Foundation is

Work has begun in the Kohler
Cemetery on the Kohler Veterans
Memorial, a project started by the
Kohler Civic Club.
The new flag pole will have at
its base a pentagon of symbols and
plaques honoring those who have
given service to the Armed Forces
of the United States. The U. S. Air
Force plaque has a stars and
stripes motif. At the left is an
image of the Womens Air Corps
insignia. In the center are the Air
Force Medal of Honor, the Air
Force Reserves insignia, and the
Strategic Air Command insignia.
In the foreground you see an
image of an Air Force cadet
through the blister window of a B-
29. The P-40 Flying Tigers rep-
resents volunteer pilots from the
United States who served in a
fighting capacity for the freedom
of friendly nations. This plaque
and the others will soon be put in
place and if all goes according to
plan a dedication of the new mon-
ument will be scheduled for Veter-
ans Day, November 11, 2014.

Wisconsins only free children book
festival promises full agenda Oct. 10-12
Sheboygan, Wis. Families, teens
and children of all ages are encour-
aged to start planning now for which
of the 70+ activities they want to at-
tend when the three-day Sheboygan
Childrens Book Festival returns Oc-
tober 10-12. The entire weekend
event is free to participants.
The volunteer-run event will
bring 16 award-winning childrens
book authors and illustrators from
across the country including six
from Wisconsin who are just as ex-
cited to present and inspire their au-
diences. This years theme is Feed
Your Imagination, highlighting
imagination and inspiration in books
for children and teens. Kevin
Henkes (Lillys Purple Plastic
Purse), Peter Brown (My Teacher Is
a Monster! No, I Am Not), Raina
Telgemeier (Sisters), Blue Balliett
(Chasing Vermeer) and Denise
Fleming (In the Tall, Tall Grass) are
among the noted authors and illus-
trators who will appear at the 2014
SCBF. The youngest and newest tal-
ent presenting is Amy Zhang, a 2014
Sheboygan Falls High School grad-
uate, who sold her first novel before
she graduated. Her book, Falling
Into Place, publishes this month.
Gearing up for its 5

year, the
Sheboygan Childrens Book Festival
(SCBF) will host these events from
Friday, Oct. 10 through Sunday, Oct.
12 at three venues in Sheboygan:
Mead Public Library, Bookworm
Gardens and the John Michael
Kohler Arts Center. No fees or reg-
istration are required for any event
or activity; however seating is first-
come, first-served.
The activities offered free to partic-
ipants include:
Bedtime bilingual concert with
Jos-Luis Orozco
Author-led writing workshops for
kids, teens and adults
Art-making sessions with illustra-
tors
Book sales and signings
Brain Quest Trivia Challenges
Free collectible author/illustrator
trading cards for kids and teens.
Visits from popular book characters
Lilly, Curious George, and Pig
from If You Give a Pig a Pancake
Prior to the festival events, more
than a half dozen of the authors and
illustrators will visit 17 elementary,
middle and high schools including
a home-school group at the Wade
House Historic Site on Fri., Oct.
10.
From 2010 to 2013, participation
in public and school SCBF programs
has grown significantly, from 3,196
to 7,126 attendees. And the number
of schools hosting a SCBF visiting
author or illustrator has doubled,
from eight schools participating in
2010 to 17 schools in 2014.

limited edition of the 2014 SCBF
poster will be available for $25. Also
available for sale is the 2013 SCBF
poster, illustrated by the late David
McLimans, a Caldecott Honor win-

Edible Book Contest
In celebration of its fifth anniver-
sary, the SCBF is holding an Edible
Books Contest on Sat., Oct. 4 at
Mead Public Library. Community
members are encouraged to create
culinary interpretations of any chil-
drens or young adult book, book
character, or plot, using only edible
materials. The books will be on
display for the public to admire and
cast votes for their favorites.
Local Sheboygan Bookseller
Autographing sessions will fol-
low each author and illustrator pres-
entation. Book World in Sheboygan
is the 2014 SCBF bookseller and
will donate 20 percent of festival
book sale proceeds to benefit future
Sheboygan Childrens Book Festi-
vals, helping keep this annual com-
munity event free and open to all.

The Sheboygan Childrens Book
Festival will celebrate its 5

families throughout Wisconsin, Illi-
nois and Minnesota. The 2013 fes-
tival events were attended by more

weekend activities and school visits,
with 98 percent of participants say-
ing they would recommend the fes-
tival to a friend or colleague.
The Sheboygan Childrens Book
Festival, established in 2010, is pre-
sented in partnership with commu-
nity volunteers and local
organizations that believe in the
transformative power of reading and
the literary and visual arts. It takes
place annually in October and is
Wisconsins only free, public chil-

For more than 100 years, resi-
dents of the Village of Kohler have
prided themselves on helping out
their neighbors, being friendly,
doing a good turn, and doing it
with a sense of joy. Its good to
see the age-old tradition is not
only well in tact, its led by a new
generation of residents.
This Good Neighbor Commit-
tee got to work helping clean up
the lawn of neighbors who were
on their way out of town. Starting
with just a couple of children, the
lawn quickly became full of young
volunteers armed with rakes and
recycling bins to help make their
neighborhood look a little nicer.
Thanks to Kohlers Good
Neighbor Committee for their
willingness to spontaneously pitch
in with smiles on their faces. In an
age where its expected for adults
to be a role model for our children,
its refreshing when thats re-
versed.

Grace United Church of Christ
celebrates 90 years on
October 5
In January of 1924, Grace
Church was organized with
twenty-four charter members
meeting in the Kohler Village
Hall. In October of 1926 the cor-
nerstone was laid for their church
building and the congregation has
been meeting in the building
since 1927.
Today, celebrating 90 years of
service and ministry in the area,
Grace United Church of Christ is
going strong with an active Sun-
day School, worship, and mission
emphasis. On October 5 the con-
gregation will celebrate its an-
niversary and will have the pastors
from the past 45 years in atten-
dance. A service of worship
(10:00) will be followed by a
luncheon and program, addressing
the past accomplishments that
have given a foundation for the fu-
ture ministry of the congregation.
The congregation looks forward
to this event celebrating a mile-
stone of ministry as it prepares to
address the next decade and be-
yond.

yoga expert Elise Cantrell invites
the community to think outside of
the Box this Halloween by offer-
ing treats that arent candy or junk
food. They don't even have to be
food at all! says Cantrell. There

bouncy balls, light up bracelets
and necklaces, spider rings, and so
on. Believe it or not, I have priced
these items, and they are no more
expensive than candy! I would
love to encourage my friends,

ers, parents, grandparents and
other members of the community
to rethink Halloween a little bit
this year and consider healthier

sell-out of season grounds
tickets for the 2015 PGA
Championship at Whistling
Straits
Releases limited remaining ticket
inventory to the general public
The PGA of America and Kohler
Co. today announced limited re-
maining ticket availability for the
2015 PGA Championship at
Whistling Straits after the event
recorded the second-highest one-
month total ticket sales in PGA
Championship history, selling out
its Season Grounds Ticket offer-
ings during the first month of sales.
As a result, very limited tickets
remain available across other cat-
egories, including less than 150 of
the Ultimate Foursome pack-
ages. The Ultimate Foursome
package allows ticket holders the
exclusive opportunity to gain di-
rect access to tickets for the 2020
Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits,
which are otherwise only available
through a random draw. Addition-
ally, a very limited number of in-
dividual Wanamaker Club tickets
remain available and are expected
to sellout soon.
Weve been thrilled to see so
many fans purchase 2015 PGA
Championship tickets during our
first month of sales; the enthusi-
asm has been incredible and the
sell-out of Season Grounds Tickets
speaks for itself, said 2015 PGA
Championship Director Jason
Mengel. With this being the week
of the 2014 Ryder Cup, we also ex-
pect the remaining Ultimate Four-
some packages to go very quickly.
The package is an incredible offer-

access to a 40,000-square-foot, air-
conditioned pavilion with HD tel-
evisions and a sports-bar theme.

During the 2015 PGA Champi-
onship, complimentary grounds
access will also be available on a
daily basis for juniors (age 17 or
younger, accompanied by a tick-
eted adult) and select military per-

Autumn celebrations at Wade House historical site
End-of-the-
season autumn
celebration
Greenbush Revel in the traditions
of the fall season during Wade
Houses Autumn Celebration on
Saturday, October 11 from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 12
from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guests will
learn about the traditional harvest
season in Wisconsin as well as
early traditions of Halloween. The
event includes a variety of family
friendly activities including turnip
and pumpkin carving, apple duck-
ing, storytelling, apple cider tast-
ing, open-air horse-drawn wagon
rides and more.
The experience will begin on the
first floor of the 1850 Wade House
stagecoach hotel. Costumed staff
will greet visitors inside the his-
toric tap room and share the history
of how Americans adapted Irish
customs to celebrate Halloween in
a new and unique way.
In the hotels 19th-century
kitchens, visitors will discover
how apple peels and hazelnuts
were used to tell fortunes as well
as enjoy a taste of warm apple
cider. Outside on the Wade House
lawn, visitors will get to carve a
turnip into traditional Irish jack-o-
lantern, or a pumpkin into the bet-
ter-known North American lantern.
In the blacksmith shop, guests
will have the opportunity to play
snap apple as well as duck for ap-
ples, both traditional Halloween
games. Snap apple participants
will try to take a bite of an apple as
it dangles in front of them, and vis-
itors who duck for apples in a basin
of water will try to catch a floating
apple with their teeth.
The celebration continues in the
candlelit Herrling sawmill where
visitors will not only hear the rum-
ble of an up-and-down water-pow-
ered saw but also spooky, family-
friendly accounts of tales from the
past.
On both days, food and bever-
ages will be available at the Butter-
nut Caf from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
with service of ice cream and bev-
erages continuing until 5 p.m.
Autumn Celebration will take
place at the Wade House Historic
Site in Greenbush, WI. Visitors
will begin the special experience at
the new Wade House Visitor Cen-
ter and Wesley W. Jung Carriage
Museum located at W7965 State
Highway 23. Admission is as fol-
lows: adults - $11; students/se-
niors - $9.25; children (5-17) -
$5.50; family (up to two adults and
two or more dependent children 5-
17) - $30.

of up to twenty guests will be
guided by costumed staff as they
learn about historic food prepara-
tion, ingredients and historic cook-
ing tools. Authentic recipes from
late 19th century cookbooks will
be referenced as guests chop and
stir, season and roast, preparing
their midday meal. When the din-
ner preparation chores are com-
plete, guests receive a guided tour
through the stately stagecoach
hotel and learn about the respite
which was offered to weary travel-
ers along the plank road between
Sheboygan and Fond du Lac in the
1850s and 1860s.
Once dinner is prepared, partici-
pants gather family style in the
lovely Wade House dining room
for a wonderful sit-down meal with
lively conversation. The menu will
feature a delectably abundant feast
of squash soup, pork loin roast, red
cabbage with apples, mashed
turnips, glazed carrots, cranberry
muffins, bread pudding, cider cake,
apple cider and coffee. This satis-
fying encounter with centeral Wis-
consins past concludes with
everyone pitching in to clear the
table, wash dishes (19th-cenury
style) and sweep the hearth.
Hearthside Dinners are $45 per
person, and reservations are re-

Open Book and Board of Review
The Village Assessor will be holding an
Open Book session at Village Hall on
Wednesday, October 15th. To schedule an
appointment with the assessor, please call
Associated Appraisal at 1-800-721-4157.
Open Book is an opportunity for property
owners to meet with the assessor and ex-
amine the records for their property and
discuss how the assessment was made.
Time spent discussing your assessment
with the assessor may eliminate the need
for a formal appeal to the Board of Review.
At open book, the assessor is allowed to
make any changes that are necessary to
perfect the assessment roll.
The Village of Kohler Board of Review
will meet Thursday, October 30th begin-
ning at 5:00 p.m. Property owners that
want to appear before the Board of Review
to appeal their assessment must provide the
clerk-treasurer with written or oral notice
of their intent to file an objection at least
48 hours before the meeting of the Board.
Also, a written and signed Form of Objec-
tion to Property Assessment must be filled
out and filed with the clerk within the first
2 hours of the Boards first scheduled
meeting.
General Election
The General Election will be held Tuesday,
November 4. The polling place is located
in the Kirkpatrick Center at the Kohler Vil-
lage Hall, 319 Highland Drive, and will be
open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. You must
have lived in the Village of Kohler for 28
days to vote in the Village of Kohler.

Circuit Court of Appeals in
Chicago has stayed the injunction against
the voter photo ID provisions of 2011 Wis-
consin Act 23. What does this mean for
voters? At the November 4
th
Election vot-
ers will be required to show a valid docu-
ment establishing their proof of
identification as part of the voting process.
This requirement applies to all voters who
are not active military electors, permanent
overseas electors, confidential electors, or
indefinitely confined electors.
Valid forms of proof identification must in-
clude the voters name, which conforms to
the voters name on the poll list (i.e. Mike
for Michael, etc.) and a photograph that
reasonably resembles the voter. The ad-
dress on the document does not have to be
current to be used as proof of identifica-
tion.
The following photo IDs are acceptable for
voting purposes, and can be unexpired or
expired after the date of the most recent
general election (November 6, 2012):
Wisconsin Drivers License, even if ex-
pired, revoked or suspended.
Wisconsin identification card (available
for free, see below).
Military ID card issued by a U.S. uni-
formed service (veteran ID card not in-
cluded).
A U.S. passport book or card.
The following photo IDs are also accept-
able for voting purposes, but must be
unexpired:
A certificate of naturalization that was
issued not earlier than two years before the
date of an election at which it is presented.
A driver license receipt issued by Wis-

If you are not registered to vote in the Vil-
lage, voter registration is available in the
Clerk/Treasurers Office through October
31 or at the polls on Election Day. Also,
you will need your WI Driver License
number and show Proof of Residency.
Some acceptable forms for Proof of Resi-
dency include: current & valid WI driver
license or WI identification card; official
identification card/license issued by a WI
governmental body; ID issued by an em-
ployer bearing a photo (not a business
card); real estate tax bill/receipt for current
year or year preceding the date of the Elec-
tion; residential lease effective for a period
that includes Election Day; university/col-
lege/technical institute ID card, must in-
clude photo, along with a fee receipt dated
within the last 9 months; utility bill for the
period commencing not earlier than 90
days before Election Day; bank statement;
paycheck; check or other document issued
by a unit of government.
Will you need an Absentee Ballot for the
General Election? The deadline for re-
questing an absentee ballot to be mailed to
you is Thursday, October 30. Absentee vot-
ing in the Clerk/Treasurers Office is avail-
able from Monday, October 20 Friday,
October 31, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Trick-or-Treat
The Kohler Police Department wants trick-
or-treating to be fun and safe for everyone.
To help that cause, Officer Gross will be
holding a Safe Trick-or-Treat Awareness
Program in the school for the younger stu-
dents. He will be passing out trick-or-treat
bags from the Police Department. During
Trick-or-Treating, which will be October

from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., officers will
hand out the glow necklaces to any child
that wants one. The glow necklaces will
make the children more visible as they are
enjoying the night out. Choosing a costume
where the kids are able to maintain good
vision is also a very good idea.

Leaf Collection
Leaf collection will start on October 6th
and continue until December 1
st
. Leaves
should be raked into the street along the
curb in a three-foot (3) wide rows. No
grass clippings, sticks, or other garden
debris is allowed. The Public Works De-
partment follows a schedule for leaf collec-
tion. The collection starts on the south end
of the Village where the trees are more ma-
ture and produce more leaves. The route
continues to the west and north sections of
the Village. During the last part of October
and early part of November we may only
be able to get through the Village once a
week and cannot make exceptions since
this will affect the collection schedule.
Fall Yard Waste
Yard waste must be put into the carts with
the green lid. On October 28 and Novem-
ber 4, yard waste may be put into addi-
tional containers after the cart is full for
these two special pickup weeks.

The school board will form an ad hoc committee to
develop a communication plan for the school dis-

We welcome returning and new families to our
learning community. We hope the summer has
been a time of rest, family, fun, and explo-
rations.
New this year are different school day schedules
for the middle and high school. Our priorities re-
main traffic safety and learning. Our commitment
is to monitor both and adjust appropriately. To
these ends, we ask families to encourage their
children to walk and bike to school and to estab-
lish healthy sleep routines to ensure adequate rest
for optimal growth and learning.
Professional development this year focuses on
student achievement through a multilevel system
of support on both the academic (RtI) and behav-
iors sides (PBIS) and professional practice through
the educator effectiveness system.
Registration went very smoothly with most fami-
lies processed accurately and efficiently and made
possible by the many helpers who were focused
and in high spirits.

Elementary News
The elementary teachers have been busy working
to get their classrooms ready for the start of an-
other school year. Mrs. Bley and Mrs. Ellifson
completed another successful Ready, Set, Go 4K
program, welcoming our newest learners to the
Kohler family and helping them become familiar
with their new teachers, school and expecta-
tions. The SMART boards are installed in all the el-
ementary classrooms, desks are arranged,
textbooks are laid out and bulletin boards are pop-
ping with color and messages welcoming students
back for another great year. The teachers and I are
anxious to meet their new students at Sneak
Peek next week.
Middle School News
The middle school team has graciously welcomed
our newest members, Miss Sheets, eighth grade
ELA, Miss Weist, 8th grade math and Mr. Shoup,
6th grade science to our school and their
team. They too have spent many hours preparing
their classrooms for the start of another year. Ad-
visory activities for the month of September have
been planned and our first six weeks of Bomber
Time (intervention and enrichment period) prom-
ises to be meaningful for teachers and students
alike.
Review of District Finances
The finance committee reviewed the 2013-2014
school. Matt Kautzer reported an increase in the
fund balance for the 2013-2014 school year. The
finance committee is refining the budget for the
2014-2015 school year.

semifinalist in the 2015
National Merit Scholarship
Program
Leigh Schlecht, daughter of
Lorne and Shannon Schlecht of
Kohler has been named a 2015 Na-
tional Merit Scholarship Semifi-
nalist. On September 10, 2014
officials of the National Merit
Scholarship Corporation an-
nounced the names of approxi-
mately 16,000 Semifinalists in the
60th annual National Merit Schol-
arship Program. These academi-
cally talented high school seniors
have an opportunity to continue in
the competition for some 7,600
National Merit Scholarships,
worth more than $33 million, that
will be offered next spring. To be
considered for a Merit Scholarship
award, Semifinalists must fulfill
several requirements to advance to
the Finalist level of the competi-
tion. About 90 percent of the
Semifinalists are expected to attain
Finalist standing, and more than
half of the Finalists will win a Na-
tional Merit Scholarship, earning
the Merit Scholar title.
NMSC, a not-for-profit organi-
zation that operates without gov-
ernment assistance, was
established in 1955 specifically to
conduct the annual National Merit
Scholarship Program. Scholar-
ships are underwritten by NMSC
with its own funds and by approx-
imately 440 business organizations
and higher education institutions
that share NMSCs goals of honor-
ing the nations scholastic champi-
ons and encouraging the pursuit of
academic excellence.
More that 1.4 million juniors in
over 22, 000 high schools entered
the 2015 National Merit Program
by taking the 2013 Preliminary
SAT/National Merit Scholarship
Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT),
which served as an initial screen of
program entrants. The national
wide pool of Semifinalists, which
represents less than one percent of
U.S. high school seniors, includes
the highest scoring entrants in each
state. The number of Semifinalists
in a state is proportional to the
states percentage of the national
total of graduating seniors.
To become a Finalist, a Semifi-
nalist must have an outstanding ac-
ademic record throughout high
school, be endorsed and recom-
mended by the high school princi-
pal, and earn SAT scores that
confirm the students earlier per-
formance on the qualifying test.
The Semifinalist and a high school
official must submit a detailed
scholarship application, which in-
cludes the students self-descrip-
tive essay and information about
the Semifinalists participation and
leadership in school and commu-
nity activities.
Approximately 16, 000 Semifi-
nalists are expected to advance to
the Finalist level, and in February
they will be notified of this desig-
nation. All National Merit Schol-
arship winners will be selected
from this Finalist group. Merit
Scholar designees are selected on
the basis of their skills, accom-
plishments, and potential for suc-
cess in rigorous college studies,
without regard to gender, race, eth-
nic origin, or religious preference.

Homecoming on Friday, October
10.
Immediately following lunch
(12:42), students will report to the
theater for a presentation by DJ
Suga Ray (who will be back in

the following night). At 1:40 stu-
dents will then go to the gym for
40 minutes of class games, compe-
titions, and a pep rally. Students
will be released at 2:20 to view
and/or line-up for the parade,
which starts at 2:35.

Tramonto as he returns to the Village
of Kohler to participate in this flavor-
ful weekend of educational seminars,
wine tastings and signature soirees on
October 23-26.
Chef Rick Tramonto, who began
his career at Wendys Old Fashioned
Hamburgers, is today an award-win-
ing chef known in the Midwest for
high profile restaurants in and near
Chicago, recognized in New Orleans
for Restaurant R'evolution and na-
tionally for television appearances on
Iron Chef America, Top Chef and Top
Chef Masters.
Tramontos respect in the culinary
world has earned him the James
Beard Award for Best Chef Midwest;
Food & Wine Magazines Best New
Chef award; two Best Wine Restau-
rant awards from Wine Enthusiast,
and many more. Tramonto is presi-
dent and culinary director of Tra-
monto Cuisine, Inc.
For eleven years, Rick Tramonto
was executive chef and founding
partner at Chicagos world-renowned
four-star fine-dining restaurant Tru,
and GAYOT Top 40 Restaurants in
the U.S., in partnership with Richard
Melman, of Lettuce Entertain You
Enterprises. Tramonto was also culi-
nary director of Tramontos Steak &
Seafood, RT Sushi Bar and Osteria di
Tramonto. In 2010, Tramonto an-
nounced his partnership with
Louisiana native Chef John Folse and
the formation of a new restaurant
company, Home on the Range. Tra-
monto and Folse opened their first
joint restaurant project Restaurant
Revolution in New Orleans
renowned French Quarter in the
Royal Sonesta Hotel in June 2012.
When he is not cooking his fa-
vorite recipes in the kitchen, he is
writing them. Tramonto is an accom-
plished author with a host of cook-
books and a memoir, Scars of a Chef.
In addition to opening restaurants
and creating cookbooks, Tramonto
has a history of media appearances
and features including articles in
USA Today, The New York Times,
Wall Street Journal, People, Gourmet,
Bon Appetit, Wine Spectator and
Conde Nast Traveler, alongside ap-
pearances on Oprah, Today, CBS
This Morning, Simply Ming and Iron
Chef America on Food Network. He
was a judge on Bravo TVs hit reality
program Top Chef. Most recently he
was a contestant on Season 2 of Top
Chef Masters.

What is your favorite fall harvest
ingredient or dish? What type of
beverage/wine do you pair with it?
Pumpkin and pumpkin risotto paired
with a great New Zealand Sauvignon
Blanc Cloudy Bay.
What is the one cooking utensil you
could not live without?
As with most chefs my chef knife.
Pretty self-explanatory!
If you had to drink only one variety
of wine for one year, what would it
be?
Cabernet, because I LOVE big reds.
What is the most important thing
to remember when pairing food?
I think you need to have fun with it
and be able to enjoy what you drink
and enjoy what you eat without pay-
ing too much attention to what the
rules are. I have no problem drink-
ing red wine when white wine would
apply, Im a rule breaker!
What do you hope people take
away from your cooking session?
I hope people are inspired to cook
and grill steaks at home along with
the best side dishes and, of course,
friends, to make the meal complete.
You are going to be cooking in the

I actually have all Kohler products in
my home. My kitchen has a deep
porcelain country-style sink and I can
fit just about anything in it, which is
very useful to a chef.
