Why Architecture Matters.
Ch. 4 Architecture as Space

In this chapter Goldberger tells us about the importance that feelings have in
architecture. How spaces try to tell us something and it is molded with the perception
transmitted.

Goldberger mentions that in architecture theres a dimension where feelings
transferred from the inside of the building to the users its important. Architecture
shows us many dimensions to consider. We think of the shape of the building, its
faade and how all of its elements are shown as a composition. The space transmits
feelings that participates in the information given by the building. Sometimes feelings
tells more than a look on the faade, its materials, colors etc.

The exterior and the interior have an emotional impact. But the interior expresses a
greater emotion to the users. We are able to perceive the exterior of the building and
it says to us something but the fact that the interior expresses more than the exterior,
can be because we interact actively with the interior. The interior makes us follow a
circulation or a path to our daily activities adding a surprise or contentment to the
space.

Space is molded, the way it is has never been an accident. Architects have the
capacity to figure the way that the space will be shaped, according to the use of the
building. The use will correspond to the perception transmitted and feelings will
emerge.

The beauty consists in how you move into the space Johnson. Architecture, as we
circulate the space, is revealed in different stages. When we move in the space it is
unfold to us revealing beauty every time we move. The past semester I went to Las
Capuchinas Luis Barragan transmitted in all the space a path full of surprises. Every
time I moved to a different place the color, the light, the scale revealed a brand new
amazement. It is full of feelings that gives us peace or a sense of elevation.

The way that architects develop the space should be according to efficiency but also
in the way they expresses their creativity to produce an aesthetic effect in the space.
Space must adequate to the function but this isnt the only aspect to consider. Its
equally important to focus on the creative part on the aesthetic of the space that will
have a consequence on the transference of the feelings.

The space is important and it must be realize having present the perception that will
be transmitted from it to the user. Thats the reason of the importance in following a plan
that will organize and make us understand better the space designed. With the plan, the
circulation or the movement that will be experienced is going to remain in the memory of
the users, since it will express emotional feelings that the user will collect.
