This document describes a laboratory experiment on clipping and clamping circuits. The objectives are to study the difference between these circuits, measure their voltage limits, and design a clamping circuit. The document provides circuit diagrams to be tested, instructions on measuring input/output waveforms, and questions on interpreting the results. Key aspects to be analyzed include how clipping and clamping alter input signals of different shapes, and how component changes like reversing a diode affect circuit operation.

PRE-LAB ASSIGNMENT
1. Predict
(sketch) the output waveforms of the circuit in figure 3-1 to 3-2. Assume that the input is a 10V p-p sine wave and V = 0.7 V (Please indicate clearly the important limits).
(sketch) the output waveforms of the circuit in Figure 3-5 to 3-6. Assume that the input is a 10V p-p square wave and V = 0.7 V (Please clearly label the amplitudes and indicate clearly the important limits).
3. Design
a biased parallel clamping circuit that will give an output as shown in Figure 3-7, where f = 1000Hz and C = 1F. Assume V = 0.7 V.
Test the two circuits of Figure 3-1 to 3-2. Set V S by using the function generator for a 10V P-P sine wave at a frequency of 1000Hz for each circuit. Measure the output voltage, V o (t) and sketch the input and output waveform for each circuit in graph 3-1 and 3-2 respectively. Record the volt/div and time/div for each waveform, and label or indicate clearly the amplitudes and other important attributes where necessary.

Test the four circuits of Figure 3-3 to 3-6, with R = 10k. Set V S by using the function generator for a 10V P-P square wave at a frequency of 1000Hz for each circuit. Measure the voltage across R, V o (t) and sketch the input and output waveform for each circuit in graph 3-3 to 3-6 respectively. Record the volt/div and time/div for each waveform, and label or indicate clearly the amplitudes and other important attributes where necessary.
