Connection A Simple way
Applies to:
SAP BW All releases. For more information, visit the EDW homepage
Summary
While collecting objects for transport it becomes a difficult and time consuming task when there are several
objects for example, collecting 200 infoobjects, 40 DSOs and 40 Cubes etc would be very time consuming.
The document explains a simple option that is available in the transport connection tool for BW. Though this
option is readily available, most of us do not know or would not have used this option.

Collecting Multiple Objects in a Transport through Transport Connection A Simple
way
Most of us would have faced this situation many times in our BW career. While collecting objects for
transport it becomes a difficult and time consuming task when there are several objects for example
collecting 200 infoobjects, 20 DSOs and 20 Cubes etc would be very time consuming to drag each object
from left to right in the transport connection let alone the idea of collecting each object individually through
the Object directory entry.
A similar situation had occurred recently which prompted to look for an easier and simple solution. The
solution of course is available as a part of the existing SAP BW admin workbenchs Transport connection
tool. In most cases we do not use this option and instead take the longer way of collecting objects.
Before we see the easier approach, lets take a look at the conventional approach that is being followed;
The Conventional approach:
For instance let us take the example of collecting 100 infoobjects:
1. In the transport connection tab under the Admin workbench, Select object types, and in the middle
pane, choose infoobjects - > Select.

2. Here we usually search for the infoobjects, then select it and the transfer it to the next pane that is
meant for collecting objects.

3. If the same has to be done for 100 infoobjects, then it is surely going to consume a lot of time which
can instead be used for development activities.
The easier approach:
In our approach we use the same transport connection tool, but in a better way so that the collection of 100
info objects becomes easier and just takes the time of a mouse click.
Keeping the list of info objects ready is the only task that needs to be performed before this.
The first step of our approach is same as that of the previous one:
1. In the transport connection tab under the Admin workbench, Select object types, and in the
middle pane, choose infoobjects - > Select.

2. Here instead of searching for individual info objects and collecting them, Click on the Filter icon
on the top.

3. Choose Object Name and move it t the right pane.
4. Click again on the filter button at the bottom.

5. Now copy and paste the list of info objects that you need to collect.

6. After Clicking OK we are presented with the list containing only those infoobjects that we want
to transport.
7. Hold SHIFT key and select all the records and Transfer them to the right pane.

This method works well for all the types of objects. This option had always been available in transport
connection, but we might have not noticed it. This might not be a very significant change or a new method.
But nevertheless, this blog would help in saving some time and bucks for your company.
