Ashok Leyland can diversify in following segments.

1) LCV & LMV :

LCV (Light Commercial Vehicle): Ashok Leyland already started diversifying in
this section. They recently launched a LMV in association with Nissan Motors Named
Dost. They can further widen their range of products to strengthen their grip on this
segment.

LMV (Light Motor Vehicles): Light motor vehicle segment consists of vehicles like
Four wheelers (cars, SUVs etc.) and three wheelers (Auto Rikshows). Since this is the hot
section to enter, Ashok Leyland established as a reliable brand in automobile sector, can
capitalize on it and be well established in this segment. Ashok Leyland can focus on cars or
SUVs as there is big demand for these vehicles. But this segment has fierce competition and
Ashok Leyland would have to deal with it.

2) Earth Moving Vehicles: Earth Moving Vehicles are currently monopoly of JCB.
As there is only one significant competitor in this field, Ashok Leyland can think of
diversifying in this section. Earth moving vehicles are in increasing demand now a day. So
Ashok Leyland can take advantage and mark their footprint in this segment.

3) Bulldozers: A bulldozer is a crawler (continuous tracked tractor) equipped with a
substantial metal plate (known as a blade) used to push large quantities of soil, sand, rubble,
or other such material during construction or conversion work and typically equipped at the
rear with a claw-like device (known as a ripper) to loosen densely compacted materials.
Shantui and Carterpillar inc. are market leaders in this segment. But Ashok Leyland
can capture this market segment in India as It has a good brand image and reputation in India.

4) Trains: Currently L&T and Hyundai are well known players in this segment. Ashok
Leyland can diversify its operations in this segment. In India currently metro train
projects are going on in various cities. So Ashok Leyland can provide Metro trains for
these projects. Also it Can Manufacture DMUs (Diesel Multiple Unit) and MEMUs
(Mainline Electric Multiple Unit) for local trains in various cities and Intercity trains such
as Hyundais electric Intercity train.

5) Power Generators: Ashok Leyland Has started to diversify in this segment. But it is not
much stronger in this segment yet. So, Ashok Leyland can concentrate on this segment
and enlarge its footprint in this segment. Current competitors in this section in India is
Kirloskar.
