did you know that the word "client" had the
meaning "comrade" or "mate" in Old Eng-
lish? Only later on it changed to "buyer".
But the central point stayed: One mainly
did business with persons with whom one
was acquainted.
Today in the age of globalisation and inter-
net, things have changed. People can be
contacted everywhere at any time to do
business. Of course, it is very convenient to
communicate via email and to send ur-
gently needed data with a simple mouse
click to the other end of the world. But
often enough one realises at this precise
moment that one doesn't even know the
addressee. People, however, prefer to dis-
cuss important subjects with persons that
they know rather than with strangers. Also
at Gntner, we are aware of this fact. It is so
much easier to correspond with persons
whose name you know and who you might
even have already met. Personal contact
and direct communication are important to
us, especially on a local level, for we know
from experience how much more conve-
nient it is to communicate in a familiar en-
vironment and in one's mother tongue.
This is also the reason why we think that it
is so important to be locally present for our
customers. We are proud that our sales re-
presentatives are now available for our cus-
tomers in 35 countries. We will develop our
sales network further, because our aim is
to keep the personal contact with our cus-
tomers.
In a continually changing environment that
is increasingly demanding when it comes
to flexibility and ability of development, it is
reconforting to know that the own persona-
lity and values like continuity and reliability
do not loose their meaning and importance.

More the 30,000 people from 1,100
Munich-based companies and public
authorities participated on July 24, 2008.
The weather was ideal for running: with a
slightly cloudy sky and a perfect tempera-
ture even the most ambitious amateur
athletes were satisfied.
Several thousand spectators supported
the runners and created a great atmo-
sphere. Due to the large number of parti-
cipants, it took more than an hour until
the last runner could get on the track.
Being part of the run and having fun was
more important than being among first
runners reaching the goal: also this year
teams stood out with imaginative costu-
mes with blue wigs, funny slogans on T
shirts or artistic interludes like juggling
while walking. Everyone participating su-
rely worked up a good sweat, but the
entry into the Olympic stadium through
the large marathon gate made up for this
and helped to mobilise the last reserves.
With more than a thousand enthusiastic
spectators every participant could savour
feeling like a professional athlete when
reaching the stadium.
Also this year the Gntner company
wouldn't miss the chance of participating
at the "Maxi Firmenlauf", especially since
the company has taken part every year
since it first took place in 2004. The 15
Gntner employees, and among them
one apprentice, waited eagerly for the
starting signal and did their best. Some
Gntner participants even topped their
previous time records. But most of all, the
enthusiastic atmosphere of the event and
its smooth organisation will be remembe-
red: An impressive event that the partici-
pants will still remember for a long time.
And surely many of this year's partici-
pants will also take part in the business
run 2009.

1. Presetting of energy
efficiency class
For designing the units, the energy effi-
ciency class can be predetermined. The
simplifies the selection and saves time.
During the design of the units, only the
units with corresponding or better effi-
ciency class are indicated.
For air-cooled drycoolers and condensers
the energy efficiency classes are defined
according to Eurovent as follows:
2. New functions in the default
setting dialogue
At the initial start and after an update of
the Gntner Product Calculator GPC, the
default setting dialogue opens. Here the
user language can be set. You can deter-
mine in which language the user interface
shall be shown. Of course, you still have
the option to set the languages indepen-
dently for the design and the text output
of the data.
It is also possible to select German as
user interface language, but to read out
the data of the designed unit for the cus-
tomer in French or in another of 14 avai-
lable languages.
Another new feature is the presetting of
the desired fan frequency.
From now on, it is possible to determine
that certain frequencies are indicated in
the default setting dialogue. Up to now,
units with 50 Hz and 60 Hz were shown;
with the new function it is possible to de-
termine already in the default settings if
only units with a frequency of 50 Hz, with
a frequency of 60 Hz or both shall be in-
dicated.

The successful evaporator family GDF has
been completely revised. For a better dif-
ferentiation, the product family has been
split up into the series GDF.1 (HFC),
GGDF.1 (brine) and CXGDF.1 (CO2, DX (di-
rect expansion)).
The former series GDFmini (extra slim-
line) is now an independent unit series
and is called GDM.1.
For revising the series, the customer re-
quirements have been determined
through product monitoring. The achie-
ved insights have been respected and
were used for the redevelopment of the
units. The newly implemented changes
improve the practical handling of the
units.
Simple installation
All slimline unit coolers can be mounted
easily and quickly. They can be mounted
very close to the ceiling and thus do not
occupy precious storage room. The casing
can be opened very easily and the side
covering can be removed with a flick of
the wirst for the tube installation.
38_0423_heatX_13aus_e_003rz:Layout 1 10.10.2008 14:44 Uhr Seite 6
Save operating costs
Compared to conventional AC motor fans,
the efficiency of EC motor fans is higher.
Additionally the EC fans can also be ope-
rated at low speed and consequently in
part load operation. The fan speed can be
changed and therefore the performance
can easily be adapted to the current re-
quirements. These caracteristics reduce
the current consumption of the fans con-
siderably (up to 50 %).
Low noise
The GDF product family has a very low
noise design due to the EC motor fans. If
the sound pressure level has to be redu-
ced further, this can be achieved by using
the speed changing function described
above.
Simple to clean
All series of the GDF family are equipped
with an especially innovative casing con-
struction. The complete drip tray con-
struction including the heating sheet can
be folded down very easily. No tools are
necessary for this. The technician saves
precious working time and there are no fi-
xing elements that can get lost.
Suitable for low temperature
applications
The GDF.1 is suitable for low temperature
applications (down to 25 C) and can be
ordered with a fin spacing of 7 mm. Spe-
cial designs for even lower temperatures
are available on request.
Optimum utilisation of cold
room
Due to the slimline unit construction and
the large performance spectre of this pro-
duct family, the cold room can be opti-
mally utilised.
Short delivery times
The series GDF.1 and GDM.1 are storage
type units. These series can be delivered
from stock in a few work days. When de-
signing the evaporators with the Gntner
Product Calculator GPC, the units in stock
are indicated as such. The delivery times
can be downloaded during the software
update via internet.

The Gntner condenser GVX with
microox

technology is a breakthrough in
heat exchange technology with a newly
conceived condenser system. This innova-
tive product will be presented to the pu-
blic for the first time at the Chillventa.
In two years of systematic development
work, Gntner adapted the micro-channel
technology already existing in the auto-
motive sector to the requirements of sta-
tionary refrigerating engineering.
The biggest challenges were: achieving
the required large performances with the
corresponding coil sizes, adapting the
units to different ranges of application
and considering the pressure in the refri-
gerant-carrying tubes. Gntner combines
several benefits all in one unit
with this new technology:
Advantage of the material
aluminium
The condenser GVX is completely made
of aluminium. Consequently the unit is
protected from galvanic corrosion. The
condenser is extremely light-weight due
to the material aluminium and the smal-
ler heat exchanger coil.
Reduced refrigerant charge
The refrigerant charge is considerably re-
duced due to the new heat exchanger
technology. As a result, less leak tests are
necessary and operating and mainten-
ance costs are reduced.
More performance on less
setting-up area
Compared to conventional units with the
same setting up area, the GVX with
microox

technology has an up to 15 %
higher power density.
Easy installation
Due to the new mounting concept, the
GVX can be mounted extremely quickly
and easily. The modular system is easily
extendable and can therefore simply be
upgraded for a higher demand in conden-
sing performance.
Functional design
The unit's functional design allows for a
perfect integration into a variety of appli-
cations and of course it is available on
demand in every RAL colour.
Intelligent system with GMM
If you choose to use the EC fans in combi-
nation with the new Gntner Motor Ma-
nagement GMM, you receive an intelligent
system: by precisely controlling the mini-
mum condensing temperature, this sys-
tem helps to improve the energy
efficiency of the plant and consequently
to reduce the operating costs.

These controllers and control panels are
precisely adapted to the Gntner units
and are a very important part of the Gnt-
ner heat exchanger systems. Customised
unit developments for improving heat dis-
sipation enhance the economic efficiency
of the refrigerating plant.
The now available Gntner Motor Ma-
nagement GMM has been developed
especially for heat exchangers with EC
fans to achieve high efficiency heat ex-
changer systems.
You only fully benefit of the system's ad-
vantages if you combine the Gntner heat
exchanger with the Gntner Motor Ma-
nagement GMM for EC fans. The control-
ler regulates the fan speed depending on
the pressure or the temperature, controls
processes and provides more safety and
transparency for an improved plant ope-
ration.
Your advantages at a glance:
Cost saving
The simple setting of the controller and
the automatic EC fan management re-
duce commissioning time considerably.
Energy saving
All control functions are adapted to the
heat exchanger; energy costs are reduced
due to the efficient condensing pressure
control and the use of EC technology.
Fan parameter setting
The parameters of the fan(s) are automa-
tically set by the controller. No hardware,
software or special knowledge is required
for this. This applies also if fans have to
be exchanged.
Operational safety
The GMM controller creates more stable
pressure ratios in the refrigerating cycle
and consequently enhances the operatio-
nal safety of the plant. The operational
safety is ensured by the permanent moni-
toring of the components that are impor-
tant for a smooth plant operation. In case
of operating failure, the system changes
automatically to an emergency operation
mode that has been previously defined by
the operator.
Simple operation
The plain text display creates more trans-
parency and provides operating informa-
tion (e.g. operating, maintenance and fault
messages) for an optimum plant opera-
tion.
Gntner Motor Management GMM for EC fans
For many years, Gntner Controls has been providing performant and high quality
controllers and control panels and consequently contributes to the high standard of
Gntner heat exchanger systems.

The Gntner GVX with microox

techno-
logy is a breakthrough in heat exchange
technology: It is a completely new con-
denser system that has been developed
according to the current market require-
ments. The heat exchanger and the ca-
sing are completely made of aluminium.
Gntner adapted the existing micro-chan-
nel technology used in the automotive in-
dustry to the requirements of the
stationary refrigerating plants and has op-
timised it for the use in refrigerating ap-
plications. The company decided to
produce the unit in its own plant so as
not to depend on purchased parts. This
ensures that the units satisfy the high re-
quirements of Gntner and its customers
at all times.
New manufacturing procedure
A new assembly line had to be created,
because the new manufacturing proce-
dure differs from the conventional proce-
dure.
It was decided to extend the manufactu-
ring plant in Tata, Hungary, to ensure that
the capacity required for the manufactu-
ring of the components is always availa-
ble.
The manufacturing line will be set up in a
completely new hall that corresponds to
the latest technical standards. The new
units will be entirely manufactured in this
hall: entering as raw material and leaving
the assembly line as finished component.
Additionally a well-conceived logistics sys-
tem will ensure that the units are built to
order and that precise delivery times are
observed.
Manufacturing will start in spring 2009
inaugurating a new era in heat exchange
technology.

Water is the elixir of life and essential for
our health. Polluted drinking water crea-
tes and spreads illness. These are facts
are generally known, but nevertheless
often disregarded. Often the resource
water is treated carelessly.
As a clearly defined mission, the mindful
use of natural resources is deeply rooted
in the corporate philosophy of the Gnt-
ner Group. At the manufacturing plant of
Gntner Indonesia the responsible use of
water is very important: Already in 2005,
a wastewater treatment plant was built to
purge toxic substances that can result du-
ring the manufacturing process. In this
plant all wastewater is treated that results
from the manufacturing process, after this
the treated water can be conducted to the
sewer system.
According to the kind and the extent of
the pollution, there are different processes
for wastewater treatment. The protection
of the clean water, where the treated was-
tewater is conducted later on, is of central
importance. Furthermore operational pro-
cesses can be optimised by using the
treated water again in the manufacturing
process. This way operating costs are re-
duced and, in processes where water is
needed, undesired chemical reactions
due to impurities in the water can be pre-
vented. With a corresponding water treat-
ment, an important amount of industrial
sewage can be reused. This provides a
threefold cost advantage: Costs for water
consumption are reduced; in total less
wasterwater is produced, consequently
the wastewater charges are lower; the
energy costs can be reduced due to heat
recovery processes during wastewater
treatment.
When treating industrial sewage it is first
of all important to filter the water for re-
moving the dissolved substances and the
suspended matter. For this purpose phy-
sical, chemical and biological process are
used. In the wastewater treatment plant in
Indonesia, in a first step oily substances
are separated and suspended matter is
filtered. Then the dissolved substances in
the water are flocculated through chemi-
cal processes. After this, the first clarifica-
tion and purification is achieved with a
sandfilter. After a second clarification se-
quence with activated carbon, the water is
conducted into a fish pond that acts as
bioindicator. Only then the purified water
is led into the sewer system if it is not
being reused for in-plant purposes.
This is an excellent example that proves
that protecting the environment contribu-
tes to the company's economic efficiency!

Sustainability in meat production: this
means that the production of pork specia-
lities is not restricted to selecting high-
quality meat and to process it according
to the best receipes. This concept already
starts with the animal feed production
and ensures that high-quality standards
are observed at every production step: by
taking measures for protecting the envi-
ronment, like water management, by
using meat from selected breeding stocks
and by working with quality conscious
contractors.
The meat processing plant in La Roche-
toirin, situated north of Grenoble in the
region Rhne-Alpes, was to be expanded
with an additional cutting room. The com-
pany AXIMA was commissioned to pro-
vide the refrigerating equipment. The
work on site was monitored the by engi-
neering company Amiot Froid Conseil and
amounted to a total of 1.5 million euros.
The newly equipped cutting room started
operating September 2007 and has a re-
frigerating capacity of 1,310 kW.
The units for refrigeration and cooling
provided by AXIMA shall improve the air
quality in the workrooms, processing, cut-
ting and storage rooms and save energy
at the same time.
AXIMA has provided refrigera-
tion equipment for four diffe-
rent installations:
- two installations for refrigeration, with a
refrigeration capacity of 1200 kW, with
ammonia as refrigerant and glycol as
coolant (cooling from -4 to -8 C).
Purpose: Cooling and maintaining the
temperature for
a) workrooms between +1 and +4 C,
cutting rooms +1 C
b) cold rooms between +1 and +8 C
- one installation with 35 kW for two
blast freezing rows that cool the meat
to -20 C, so that a crust is formed on
the pieces to prevent evaporation and
mass loss. In this installation, R404a is
used as refrigerant.
- an installation with a capacity of 75 kW
with the refrigerant R404a that cools a
freezing tunnel and a cold store
(-25 C).
All heat exchangers have been provided
by Gntner.
This includes all evaporators in the
workrooms and cold stores that were
mounted in AXIMA casings and equipped
with G4 and F8 filters for eliminating mi-
croorganisms. The air-cooled condensers
and drycoolers were also furnished by
Gntner.

The basic concept of the company "Russ-
kij holod" (Russian cold) was to produce
ice cream from natural, traditional Rus-
sian raw materials. In the 1990's mainly
non-Russian products dominated the
market. This led to the decision - after a
thorough market analysis in 1999 - to
found a local company for producing and
selling ice cream.
One competitive advantage was that at
that time many Western European com-
panies glutted the Russian market with
low-quality ice cream containing a large
amount of artificial flavours and colou-
rants.
A lot of Russian companies followed the
example of producing ice cream with arti-
ficial ingredients, even though high-qua-
lity ice cream has always been very much
appreciated in Russia. From the very be-
ginning, Russkij holod, however, focussed
on using natural and high-quality ingre-
dients for the production. This approach
is also reflected in its choice of refrigera-
ting equipment.
The manufacturing plant started opera-
ting in spring 2006 and has a production
capacity of 4,000 t/month. More than
150 different kinds of ice cream are pro-
duced and sold not only in Russia, but
also in the EC, Israel and the USA. Approx.
90 % of the overall production is directly
delivered to the stores.
Russkij holod is very demanding when it
comes to its products and this applies
also to the plant's technical equipment.
Great importance was attached to equip-
ping the manufacturing plant with state-
of-the-art devices. For the refrigeration
and cooling equipment, high-quality
Gntner products were selected. The loa-
ding ramps are equipped with dual disch-
arge unit coolers of the series DHN to

Russkij holod produces over 150 dif-
ferent kinds of ice cream in two ma-
nufacturing plants. In September
2004, the company received the EC
certificate and can consequently ex-
port its products to the European
Community. Russkij holod is the only
company in Russia with the permis-
sion to sell its products in the USA (in
May 2006, a licence was granted by
the certification commission of the
US Department of Agriculture). This
provides the opportunity of conque-
ring new sales markets and provides
good perspectives for the company's
development. Russkij holod also ex-
ports its products to Germany, Eng-
land, to the Baltic states and to
Greece.
For the year 2007, an export volume
of 150 t was planned.

Of course, Moscow's best neighbourhoods
are preferred. Finding a prime addresses
with excellent local and communication
infrastructure is one of the main stages in
the process of establishing a new branch
office.
For this step, the support of local compa-
nies specialised in development projects
like the Romanov Development Group is
crucial.
The company headquarters are located in
the Romanov dvor office building, most
significant project realized by the Ro-
manov Development Group. The literal
translation of Romanov dvor is "court of
the Romanovs" and refers to the estate of
the Romanov tsar family that was located
at this place in the 17th century. The
name shows the proximity to the centre
of powers, the Kremlin. The building loca-
ted near the Romanov Pereulok is only
500 m from the Red Square and one of
the most prestigious addresses in town.

Components for different cooling ap-

drycoolers. The heat exchangers including
the receivers were installed on the roof

contractors. The first installation with
Gntner drycoolers and an overall refrige-
rating capacity of 1490 kW was designed
and implemented by the contractor Trane.
For server room cooling, units of the se-
ries GFH were selected. Drycoolers of the
series GFD were installed for air-conditio-
ning the seven storey building. These
units operate with ethylene glycol and are
equipped with aluminium fins and copper
tubes for safe and reliable cooling.
It was possible to install the units on the
roof, because the units have such a low
noise level that the noise control regulati-
ons can be observed even at night. Due to
the architecture of the building, the instal-
lation of the units on the roof was quite a
technical challenge. A special crane was
necessary to lift the units to the roof, be-
cause the building is located in an area of
high housing density.
Last year, an additional server room was
created. For equipping the server room
with cooling installations, the company
Artek selected two Gntner drycoolers of
the series GFW with an overall refrigera-
ting capacity of 580 kW. Also in this case
the installation was carried out smoothly
with the necessary technical support.

Siemens Energy has received a its second
major order from China Petroleum Mate-
rial and Equipment Corporation (CPTDC):
for the extension of the natural gas pipe-
line Shanjing II in China, eight Variable
Speed Drives (VSD) Systems will be deli-
vered. The pipeline supplies natural gas
from the Western province Shanxi to Chi-
na's capital Beijing. The Siemens VSD sys-
tems will be installed in three pipeline
compressor stations and will start opera-
ting in fall 2009. The scope of the order
includes cooling systems, control systems
and filter equipement.
The company Anlagenbau Neundrfer

cooling systems. For this prestigious pro-
ject, the company Neundrfer chose to
install Gntner drycoolers. Special units of
the series GFH are used that satisfy speci-

Supporting children in need
For a good cause supporting the SOS Children's Vil-
lage in Diessen, Germany
change X heat
Success always implies responsibility, be-
cause especially economic success often
does not trickle down to the less fortunate
of a society. The Gntner company strives
to fulfill its reponsibility towards the so-
ciety and to give active support. For this
reason, the General Management has de-
cided to get involved locally and to sup-
port a good cause, namely the SOS
Children's Village in Diessen, Germany.
For most people the SOS Children's Vil-
lage association, founded in 1955 by Her-
mann Gmeiner in Munich, is a network of
orphanages, but the idea of the SOS Chil-
dren's Villages goes much further. During
a visit at the SOS Children's Village in
Diessen, the first of its kind in Germany,
Erich Schpflin, in charge of the village,
explained the concept of the SOS Chil-
dren's Villages to Bernd Gantner, General
Manager of Gntner, and Dirk Oblnder,
Gntner Sales Director.
Hermann Gmeiner's idea was to give all
children in need a home and a family,
and this implied not only orphans, but
also children from broken families. Today
there are no orphans in the SOS Chil-
dren's Villages, but exclusively boys and
girls that cannot grow up with their biolo-
gical parents for different reasons. Boys
and girls of different ages grow up toget-
her as siblings in a stable family-based
environment with their SOS mother/pa-
rent.
Especially in the Children's Village in Dies-
sen it is a pleasure to see how well this
concept works. The village is an integral
part of the community, the children visit
the public schools nearby and can stay in
their SOS family until they have accom-
plished their professional education.
Mostly they stay in contact with their sib-
lings and their SOS parents even after ha-
ving left the village. During the visit,
Christine Czermak, SOS mother and spo-
kesperson of SOS mothers in Germany,
told about adults having grown up in SOS
Children's Villages that like to return to
their SOS village and also get involved
personally. Many of them support the vil-
lages regularly, they provide up to 40 %
of the funds, thus enabling necessary re-
pairs and renovations. A rewarding invest-
ment that helps to create an environment
where children can grow up in safety and
learn to stand on their own two feet.
Aerial photograph | Even though it isn't small, the SOS Children's Village in Diessen at the
Lake Ammersee still has a manageable size.
Laying of the foundation stone | The foun-
dation stone was laid in presence of the
founder Hermann Gmeiner (centre).
SOS Children's Village association is
an international organisation active in
132 countries with 1,897 institutions
and programmes. The SOS Children's
Village in Diessen at the Lake Am-
mersee in Bavaria, Germany, was
founded as the first SOS Children's
Village in Germany in 1956 and is a
home to children in need, indepen-
dent of their religious, ethnic or social
background. The Village's financing
consists of 60 % public funds and
40 % donations of individuals or
companies.
Handing over the cheque | On July 15,
2008, Bernd Gantner, General Manager, and
Dirk Oblnder, Sales Director, presented the
donation to Erich Schpflin, in charge of the
SOS Children's Village Diessen, and to Chris-
tine Czermak, SOS mother.

The Gntner summer party is an integral
part of the company's event calendar:
every year, shortly before the summer ho-
lidays start in the Bavarian schools, the
Gntner company management invites
the Gntner employees and their families
to celebrate a large summer party. Espe-
cially for new employees this is a great
opportunity to get to know the colleagues
in a relaxed atmosphere outside of work,
to discuss and to tie new contacts. With
almost 700 guests at this year's summer
party a new record attendance was achie-
ved. Due to the unsettled weather, a tent
was set up this year next to the factory
building. As the year before, the first
guests arrived with their families already
in the afternoon to enjoy the coffee and
cake. Of course the children wouldn't sit
still for long and were quickly tempted to
explore all the attractions that have been
especially set up for them.
They soon all found their most favourite
pasttime: The smallest guests preferred
the choo choo train. The little ones went
round and round and had a lot of fun. It
was hard to convince them to try out
other attractions like the bouncy castle.
This attraction was also very popular, just
like the goal wall shooting and the human
soccer that also appealed to the adults.
Soon teams were formed that competed
in an improvised match.
Later on everybody returned to the
factory building where Jan Danger, Gene-
ral Manager, held the address of welcome.
Mr. Danger welcomed all the guests and
emphasized that especially this year
many international guests from Gntner
manufacturing plants and Gntner sales
offices were present. Mr. Danger thanked
the organising team and wished everyone
a pleasent evening before declaring the
buffet open.
As every year, the buffet offered a large
variety of food for every taste. Besides a
copious offer with various Bavarian spe-
cialities, there were also many different
booths with international delicacies. For
dessert, the ice cream van offered organic
ice cream in many different flavours.
At 6 p.m. the live band started playing
and stirred up the audience. Around 10
p.m. the guests went out into the open to
enjoy the traditional firework. Mr. Wacker-
bauer, the company's pyrotechnician,
excelled with his show and appreciated
the spontaneous and enthusiastic
applause of the audience very much that
showed that this year's summer party was
a real success.
