You need to develop a torch that will enable you to see at night, the switched available arent sufficient so you will need to make one that works for your torch. Think about what a torch does and how or why they are effective, think about what a switch is and how they work. How can you make your own, discuss this below. _____________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________
What youll need LED 9 Volt Battery Battery Clip Wires o Red for Positive o Black for Negative You will be creating your own switch
Things you have identified that you need
The Circuit Diagram:
What is each component, draw it and name it in the table below. Component Image: Component Name:
Design it Using the space below design and annotate a design for your torch.
How youll do it 1. Connect and solder together your circuit. You will need to connect it all up without a switch to start, to turn it on and off you can just remove and attach the battery from the clip. Ensure your LED is in the right way. 2. You will need to implement your switch design, and build your interface/enclosure. 3. At this stage we need to test your switch, cut the wire at the point you want your switch on your circuit and set it up. 4. When working, complete your torch and test it. What next From here you might want to enhance your torch, come up with some ideas, run through the design process and discuss with me your ideas, if we can do it we will. There are lots of ways to enhance your torch, it could be to do with colour, intensity, flashing, signalling, timing, etc.
Success Criteria Accelerated Expected Low (5) (4) (3) (2) (1) Not Shown (0) Analysis The problem has been clearly identified and noted prior to the design phase, some ideas have been suggested and further research is evident. The problem has been clearly identified and noted prior to the design phase. Some notes have been made about the task. Design and Planning Planning has been done to identify any materials required and a clear annoyed design put forth. Materials have been identified and a drawing explained. Materials listed and potential torch drawn, little description provided of requirements or ideas. Development The circuit has been assembled based on the diagram and functions as expected; any testing has been executed and acted upon efficiently and effectively. The torch assembled reflects the design and functions as outlined in the design, i.e. the switch works as described and it lights up the night. Testing and Evaluation Testing has been carried out throughout the process and modifications have been made as necessary, these have been minor.
