The Secret Is To Walk In the Light

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (I John 1:7).
To walk in the light is to live according to the revelation of the Word of God. Light is the
understanding that we receive of our Father when we read or hear the preaching of the Word
and our spirit perceives the real meaning of a certain passage in the Bible. The Holy Spirit
gives the revelation of the Scriptures to us, and the illumination makes faith grow in our
hearts. In evangelical jargon, we say the Word jumps out at you.

In order to gain a deeper understanding, we are going to break up this verse into four
parts, and study them piece-by-piece.
But if we walk in the light – without God’s light the power of this promise will have no
impact or meaning to one’s life. That is why it is crucial for us to walk in HIS light, to be in
constant fellowship with Christ.
For those who belong to the Lord, this doesn’t sound like something compulsory, or an
obligation, but as a wonderful orientation, granted by God. In fact, the secret of success is to
follow all the orientations He presents us through His Word.

It doesn’t matter if the light beam is broad or narrow; we are compelled to walk in it. To
accept orientation and to act according to the Word is an example of how much we trust Him.
This is how God guides us: He shows us a ray of light, and we must take hold of this
revelation, trust in the Lord and follow him.
The Lord Jesus revealed us the secret of success: You search the Scriptures, for in them
you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. (John 5:39). He knew
the Scriptures. In them, He discovered who He was, what He could do, and what the Father
wanted Him to speak to me: “Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told Me, so I
speak.” (John 12:50b).
Then Jesus said to them, "… I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I
speak these things (John 8:28). The Lord uses the same method today. He grants us a
revelation – the Light. If we desire to be like Jesus, we must take advantage of the resources
He has given us and follow His examples.
Because He is in the Light – our God is in the Light, in the little promise that is fulfilled,
or in the great understanding of the Word. If we use it in the battle against evil, we’ll be
allowing God to enter this battle for us and to defeat the evil forces that oppose us.

It is through this understanding that the Lord will come to help us; if we are in the Light, He
will grant us the victory.
It is in the revelation of His Word that He truly becomes our refuge and our stronghold – a
very present help in trouble.
The Light is the only place where we can find Him, and where He will manifest Himself as the
invincible God. We always need to be in the Light, to walk in it, and never despise it, because
it’s in the Light that we find God. When we stray from the knowledge of our Father concerning
His Word, we allow the enemy to act in our lives.
We have fellowship with each other – “The whole world lies under the sway of the
wicked one.” Humanity is in darkness. The revelation of the Word is the Light that allows us to
come before God; it’s the Light that makes us shine before God and shows Him where we are.
When we receive it and walk in it, we can have fellowship with each other. To understand this
better, let’s take a look at the following situation: a son of God consecrates himself and
receives a blessing from the Lord; another son, with more difficulties, goes to that brother and
asks him to pray for him, and to bless him. The first son prays with great confidence, but he
doesn’t reach his objective because the other is not in the Light. In that situation, they cannot
have fellowship with each other.
To walk in the Light removes all the hindrances that stop us from using the power that the
Lord has given us to do His work. If we don’t walk in the Light, we won’t be able to establish a
connection between ourselves. Another example would be the Internet, the World Wide Web.
Let’s say that I have a computer that is connected to this “web”. In that case, we can
communicate and stay connected as long as we desire. However, if we both have computers
and a wish to communicate with each other, but only one of us is connected to the Internet,
our “fellowship” will never happen. One of us will not be in the “light”.
The blood of Jesus Christ purifies us from all sin – the most important work that the
Lord Jesus ever did when He came to earth was our salvation. When He died, He defeated the
devil, and He bought us for God, delivering us forever from satanic slavery. On the cross, He
rescued us to live a clean, healthy, prosperous, worthy, and holy life. However, no man will
ever benefit from that if he doesn’t walk in the Light, as He is in the Light. Walking in the
Light, Christians will not have lascivious desires, nor wish harm to other people. They won’t
deceive and they won’t be unfaithful in their marital lives, or in any other area.
If we’re in the light, besides fellowship with each other, we will have the supreme blessing
of having the blood of Jesus cleansing us from all sin. After Adam’s fall, sin entered the world
and brought death – the nature of Satan – upon us. That stained us and contaminated us in
every way. However, the good news is that if we fulfill the conditions established by Him, we
will be purified of all sin. There will be no stain in our character, in our personality, or in any
other area of our lives. So, the more we walk in the Light, the more purified we will be. That is
important, because the Word says: Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which
no one will see the Lord (Heb 12.14).
Make the choice to walk in the Light, because His blessings are abundant. This is the best
moment for you to become a completely blessed person. The Holy Scriptures tells us: The
night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and
let us put on the armor of light (Rom 13.12).
