Happy New Year!
Parish Nurse, 3
This is always a time of fresh beginnings and new opportunities. A time where we can Activities 4, 5,
put the bad memories and difficult times of the previous year behind us and look for- 6
ward with a fresh face towards new and better things ahead. There is a tradition that
we have all probably practiced at least once in our lifetimes, the mighty New Year Children’s Library 7

Resolution. Did any of you just smirk?!? Each year many people vow to commit to angelfood 8
doing something that they believe will help them change an aspect of their lives. Some Calendar 9
people focus on physical attributes, others on spiritual aspects, and intellectual pursuits
are often considered, among many other things.

But the point is there is an excitement about a new year, an anticipation of things to
come. As a congregation we will celebrate and participate in John Wesley's Watch
Night service. This is a service where we will covenant together to renew our alle-
giance to the Triune God; the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We vow to pattern our 01/18 Nancy & John
thoughts and actions to reflect inwardly what we have professed outwardly as Chris- Battin
tians. Everyone will be provided with a written copy of the liturgy to sign and keep, as
a reminder of this experience. This will be done so that we as a congregation can come
together and covenant with one another to be the best servants for the Kingdom that we
can possibly be. I also hope that it gives you a sense of excitement and anticipation.

For me this type of service generates great excitement and anticipation. I am excited to
start fresh, to have a point where I can say I have made mistakes, I am sorry, I will do
my best to learn from them, and I am ready to move on. It generates excitement that I
can begin to apply things I have learned in the previous year and seize opportunities I

lost. Those things excite me! 01/06 Jacob Greene
01/09 Betsy Markee
I am also looking forward to the new adventures and ways that God will use me this 01/10 Joe Graff
year with great anticipation. This past Advent we spoke quite a bit about anticipation 01/11 Eric Barrow
and looking for God in places we would not expect, and to expect to experience God Alene Krouse
with great anticipation. That anticipation is what I look forward to. I know that God 01/16 Jan Ridley
will use me this year and I know that God will guide me this year. I just do not know 01/19 Nancy Johnson
how and that intrigues me. 01/21 Peggy Sue Munday

It is my prayer that you will also find that excitement and anticipation this New Year. 01/25 Vivian Bathurst

CHURCH GOALS

I think it is important that we all have goals. It helps to keep us focused and gives us purpose. Well this year as part of
our responsibilities for our Annual Charge Conference we were asked to create one goal for each of the five practices of
the Methodist Way. I want to share with each of you what our leadership approved as goals for this year.
Radical Hospitality
Open ourselves up to the community by hosting free events such as the Easter Tableau and Pumpkin Patch where we can
not only be a place to gather but work to increase our witness to the community through our interactions with them.

Passionate Worship
To stretch our congregation's awareness of different styles of worship by recognizing and participating in various wor-
ship events such as Christ the King Sunday, Hanging of the Greens service, Baptism renewal services, and using litur-
gies found in the Book of Worship.

Intentional Discipling
Increase the frequency, duration, and types of Bible Studies offered on site. We will offer several different types of
studies, Scripture, life application, and gender focused studies, taught by different people, at different times, in order to
appeal to as many people as possible with the goal of having the majority of our congregation involved in some type of
study next year.

Salty Service
Enter into a partnership with Marion County to be literacy volunteers to help those adults in our community learn to read
and write.

Extravagant Generosity
Provide a debt relief class, (i.e. Financial Peace University), to help reinforce Scriptural stewardship and provide a plan
to increase personal generosity.

I look forward with great anticipation to what God will do through us this year as we work together to be effective King-
dom builders here in Ocala and beyond!
