This project aims to adapt assessment tools and develop training programs to support early childhood development for young visually impaired children in Malawi. The project will (1) modify existing developmental assessment tools to establish basic profiles for community health workers to assess young visually impaired children, (2) develop accompanying training programs for community health workers, and (3) create developmental journal materials for families to encourage support of their children. The outcomes will be increased understanding of meaningful assessment approaches and improved support for early development of visually impaired children in Malawi.
