Music

The American Revolutionary war was a war fought between Great Britain
and the original 13 British colonies in America. The war took place from
1775 to 1783. The American Army, or the Army of the colonies, led by
George Washington, and other generals, defeated the British Empire.

Music served a useful part in the Revolutionary War. Songs were written for
different reasons. Often they were used to help make people feel excited
and emotional about their cause. Revolutionary music was a good way to
express feelings, make fun of the enemy, and forget the terrible realities of
war. (http://kidsandhistory.net/paulvm/h5_musicfrmset.html)

Also, during the war, armies didnt have phones or radios for
communication. Music became the main way for them to communicate over
long distances. (http://www.fifeanddrum.army.mil/kids_fife_drum.html)

The fife was an instrument used because of its high pitched sound, and the
drum because of its low pitched sound. Both instruments can be heard
from great distances and even through the sounds of a battlefield. Fifers
and drummers would provide the music for all of the things that soldiers
would need to do throughout the day. They would play tunes in the camp,
on the battlefield, or for a march.

During the Revolutionary War, bugles were also used as method of
communication. It was too difficult for a Soldier on horseback to play a fife
because it required two hands. Soldiers found that a bugle could be played
with one hand while using the other to ride the horse. Soldiers on
horseback were called cavalry units. The bugle was also an instrument that
was loud and could be heard clearly in battle.

and is now known as influential continental colors for Great Britain. The east
india company made great britains flag after the king signed a proclamation
saying the first flag was to be made. Most colonist that flew the american flags
were also later on respectful and loyal to the british. This flag was known as
the Union Jack or Union flag. The cross represented in each flag is named
after the patron saint of each country: St. George, patron saint of England, St.
Andrew, patron saint of Scotland and St. Patrick, patron saint of Ireland. The
british thought this was important because together these countries constitute a
powerful union that has spanned centuries The flag was meant to be a symbol of unity
in which actually became a symbol of international controversy.

There were flags for all the 13 colonies, but all of the colonies fought under one flag during the
revolutionary war in which the flag represented each of the 13 colonies. (one star for each) This
flag is called the Betsy Ross flag, and was credited under her name because she was said to
have sewn the first flag, and was well known all over by young women years later because of
her wonderful and generous contribution towards american history. During the day of the war,
washington requested the flag be hoisted at his base in Prospectors Hill in complement to the
United colonies which include :

Massachusetts
New Hampshire
Maryland
Connecticut
Rhode Island
Delaware
North Carolina
South Carolina
New Jersey
New York
Pennsylvania
Georgia

Betsy ross was chosen to make this flag because she was in acquaintance with George
Washington, and she did it out of favor for George. The colonies used many different flags
before and after the american revolution such as:
Betsy owned her own upholstery
shop and continued to make flags for Washington for many years.

The British Revolutionary War
uniforms were no less colorful
than the Americans. However, the
term "uniform" also was inimical

weapons
muskets -The most commonly used firearm during the Revolutionary War was the muzzle-loaded musket.
The musket was the primary weapon for thousands of British and Continental Army soldiers. Revolutionary War
muskets were commonly equipped with bayonets, which were useful against cavalry and in close combat. America's
ability to arm its force with flintlock muskets as they mobilized was a critical challenge early in the war.
Muskets used in the Revolutionary War included the Brown Bess, the Charleville, and the Kentucky long rifle.

cannons-The cannon was a highly effective weapon throughout the Revolutionary War and was key to the
American victory. Though it took as many as 14 soldiers to operate, a cannon could fire projectile for hundreds of
yards and hit dozens of enemy soldiers in a single shot

Flintlok Pistol-Used primarily as a secondary weapon by soldiers, the pistol was considered very
inaccurate and was more of a personal weapon. The pistol was popular in early American duels, which allowed
participants to be tough guys without usually being killed (don't mention that to Alexander Hamilton though).

Swords and Sabres- Used mostly by officers, Revolutionary War swords were often ornamental
in nature and decorated with precious materials. General George Washington considered his sword to be part of the
uniform and many Washington paintings from the Revolutionary War era feature him holding an unsheathed sword.
Today, antique swords are among the most popular American Revolution weapons with collectors.

Submarines- America first experimented with the concept of an underwater vessel during the
Revolutionary War. A submarine, then called "the Turtle" was invented by David Bushnell in order to attach
explosives to British ships without being detected. Though General Washington loathed this underwater manner of
attack as "ungentlemanly", the Turtle was deployed on September 6th, 1776. Piloted by Ezra Lee (and only Ezra
Lee), this new water machine was sent to drill a screw into the giant British ship HMS Eagle. Unfortunately, Lee failed
to secure the explosive and was forced to retreat as dawn approached. Two other attacks were attempted with the
Turtle - both failed.

Pole arms: A pole arm was a cutting or thrusting weapon mounted on a
long handle or pole. Pikes, spears, halberds, partisans and spontoons were
all pole-arms. A pole arm was used as a close combat weapon in which a
blade is placed on the end of a long wooden shaft, extending the user's
effective range.

Tomahawks: The tomahawk was used as a hand-to-hand or a thrown
weaKnives: A vast selection of knives were used during the Revolutionary
war including throwing knives, daggers, scalpers and skinners

The colonist in the revolutionary war still hunted for a lot of their food. the
hunting rifles that they had were the most common weapon used by the
colonial militia. these guns were built in America for a long time before the
war and were more accurate then the British muskets

During the revolutionary war blacksmiths would make weapons such as
guns, canons, and swords.
