RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.0 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
Research design : Descriptive research
Research method : Survey method
Research instrument : Structured questionnaire
Data type : Primary
Data collection method : Personal Contact Method
Sampling method : Non probability, Deliberate sampling
Area of study : Coimbatore
Sample size : 32
Definition of research:
Research is defined as the systematic and objective process of gathering, recording and
analysing data for aid in making business decisions.
The characteristics of research are:
Systematic problems solving which identifies variables and tests relationships between
them.
Collecting, organizing and evaluating data.
Logical, so procedures can be duplicated or understood by others.
Empirical, so decisions are based on the data collected.
Reductive, so investigates a small sample which can be generalized to a larger
population.
Discovering new facts or verify and test old facts.
Developing new scientific tools, concepts and theories, this would facilitate to take
decisions.
For the proper analysis of data simple statistical techniques were used. It helps in making
more generalization from the data available the data which was collected from the sample of
population was assumed to be representing the entire population of interest.

3.1. Research Design:
A research design is an arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of
data in a manner that aims to combine relevance to the research purpose with the economy in
procedure. The research design used for the study was Descriptive Study.
Descriptive research studies are those studies which are concerned with describing the
characteristic of particular individual or group. The objective of the study is to answer what,
when, where and how of the subject under investigation. This includes the surveys and the
fact-finding enquiries of different kinds.
Research Method:
The research approach used for the study was SURVEY METHOD. In case of
Descriptive study the survey was performed to obtain the primary data through direct
communication with the respondents.
3.2.Sampling Design::
Sample denotes only a part of the population. The sample should represent the population and
should have the same characteristics as the population.
Sampling Type:
The sampling type used for the study was NON-PROBABLITY SAMPLING.
Non-Probability Sampling:
Non-probability sampling ia that sampling procedure which does not afford any basis for
estimating the probability that each item in the population has of being included in the
sample.
Sampling Method:
The sampling method used to select the sample units was Deliberate sampling.
Deliberate sampling:
The defining characteristics of a deliberate sample are that the researcher deliberately sets the
proportions of levels or strata within the sample. This is generally done to insure the
inclusions of a particular segment of the population.

Sample Size:
Sample size refers to the number of items to be selected from the universe to constitute the
sample. The study includes sample size of 32 in Coimbatore district.
3.3.Data collection:
Primary data was collected by direct oral investigation method. Direct oral methods describe
the direct communication between researcher and respondents for collection of primary data
by means of questionnaire.
Research Instrument:
The instrument used for the study was A STRUCTURED QUESTIONNAIRE.
The effective instrument used for the collection of primary data through Questionnaire.
Structured questionnaires are those questionnaires in which there are definite and pre-
determined questions that include the objective type questions. Closed end questions are
those that include objective type questions whereas the open ended questions that invite free
response. The questionnaire used for the study is structures questionnaire with both closed
and open ended questions. The analysis of the data collected were analysed by simple
percentage analysis and cross tabulation. The software that was used for the analysis is SPSS.
