Fixing Film Replacement Procedure and Pressure Release Tool

GENERAL:
This Technical Publication provides a detailed procedure for replacing the fixing film using the
new Fixing Assembly Pressure Release Tool (FY9-3025-000) for the GP 200/200F.
SERVICING:
In addition to the Fixing Assembly Pressure Release Tool (FY9-3025-000), the following items
will be needed to replace the fixing film on in-service GP 200/200F copiers:
Scribe Flat-blade screwdriver
Phillips-head screwdriver Fixing film (FB2-2282)
Radio pliers
To replace the fixing film, follow the procedure detailed on pages 2 through 10 of this Technical
Publication.

NOTE: Two tools are shown. Two
tools are required to replace the fixing
film; one to release pressure on the
rear of the tension roller, and one to
release pressure on the front of the
tension roller.
Replacing the fixing film
1. Removing the fixing assembly
1) Open the front door.
2) Open the delivery door.
3) Shift down the feeding assembly releasing
lever to release the feeding assembly.
4) Remove the screw, and remove the fixing
assembly front cover.
5) Cut the tie-wrap, and disconnect the connec-
tor; then, remove the three screws, and take
the fixing assembly out through the front of
the copier.
2. Removing the upper fixing unit
Caution:
1. Be careful not to touch the surface of the fix-
ing film.
2. When replacing the fixing film, take care not
to damage the heater, rollers, and fixing film.
3. Do not touch any paint-locked screws.
1) Remove the pressure releasing lever tension
spring from the front and the rear.
2) Remove the E-ring and the washer from the
front of the fixing assembly; then remove the
pressure releasing lever.
3) Remove the E-ring and the washer from the
rear of the fixing assembly; then, remove the
pressure releasing lever.

4) Remove the fixing assembly upper/lower unit
tension springs (pressure spring).
5) Open the upper fixing unit.
6) Remove the two screws from the rear of the
fixing upper unit; then, slide the upper fixing
unit and the lower fixing unit apart to separate
them from each other.

3. Removing the fixing film.
1) Disconnect the delivery assembly connector,
and remove the fixing unit upper delivery
guide.
2) Loosen the screw on the heater connector at
the front.
3) Remove the three screws, and remove the fix-
ing film displacement correction motor; then,
disconnect the heater connector.
4) Remove the three screws, and remove the har-
ness guide.
5) Remove the E-ring (1), cam, and bushing.
6) Remove the E-ring (2) and the washer from
the drive roller.

7) Fit the pressure releasing tool to the tension
shaft arm at the front.
8) Fit the pressure releasing tool to the tension
shaft arm at the rear.
9) Remove the E-ring, and remove the tension
shaft arm.
10) Remove the screw, and carefully remove the
upper fixing unit body.

11) Wrap a rubber band around the upper fixing
assembly as shown in Figures 2-16 and 2-18.
Then remove the fixing film.
Caution:
Do not touch the face of the fixing heater.
Reference:
If you do not have the pressure releasing tools, try
pushing the point indicated when pulling out the
fixing film.
4. Install the fixing film
Caution:
1. The fixing film must be installed with the cor-
rect orientation (front, rear). Orient it so that
the end with a semi-transparent side is at the
rear (i.e., insert the film with the semi-trans-
parent end first).
2. Do not touch the surface of the fixing film or
the fixing heater.

1) Remove the rubber band, and align the end of
the fixing film (which is not semi-transparent)
with the middle index mark on the heater stay.
2) Continue to reassemble by reversing the steps
used to remove the upper fixing unit body
(Figure 2-15).

3) Install the tension shaft arm (Figure 2-14).

4) Check that the position of the fixing film is
aligned with the heater stay in step 2; if there
is a discrepancy, make adjustments so that the
edge of the fixing film and the middle index
mark on the heater stay match.
5) Remove the pressure releasing tool (front and
rear).
6) Install the pressure cam (Figure 2-11).
7) Install the harness guide with three screws
(Figure 2-10).
Caution:
Make sure the harness guide and the body will
not pinch any wires.
8) Install the heater terminal with the silver
screw.
9) Install the fixing film displacement correction
motor (M5). At this time, make sure the fan-
shaped boss is securely in the long hole of the
swing arm.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Ensure the following about the tension
springs:
The spring with the larger hook is for the
upper fixing unit; the one with the smaller
hook, is for the pressure releasing lever.

Note: Be sure that the black spring is at
the rear.

10) Install the upper fixing unit to the lower fix-
ing unit as shown in Figures 2-6 and 2-7.

11) Install the pressure releasing levers at the
front and the rear as shown in Figures 2-2
and 2-3.

Making adjustments in service mode
1) Open the front door, and insert the handle of the static eliminator cleaning brush
into the fixing assembly releasing assembly.
2) Insert the door switch actuator into the door switch assembly.
3) Turn on the main power switch.
4) Press the service switch to start service mode.
5) Using screen 14 (FUNCTION; *4*) (refer to Figure 2-25), select T-ROLLER FIX; then, press the
OK key.
See the following for the adjustments to make after the end of T-ROLLER FIX:

seven or fewer NGs
in a row?
If it ended in NG, perform the following:
1) Loosen the paint-locked screw 1 shown in Figure 2-26.
2) Turn the white screw for the number of click (Notes 1
and 2 on page 10) according to the display (3) to the
right of FILM SPEED.
3) Tighten the paint-locked screw 1.
4) Execute T-ROLLER FIX (1) once again; repeat until
it ends in OK.

Refer to Figure 2-25 (Service mode screen), when making checks and adjustments outlined in
Note 1 and Note 2 below.

You may end the adjustment if RUNNING display (2) is OK at the end of T-ROLLER FIX (1).
If NG, on the other hand, use the value under CW and CCW indicated to the right of FILM
SPEED (3).
CW : clockwise
CCW : counterclockwise

According to the numbers under CW and CCW indicated to the right of FILM SPEED (3), turn
the white screw (Figure 2-26) for the numbers. (The number represents the number of clicks on
the white screw.)
EX. 1 If the number in parentheses under FILM SPEED (3) is 5, turn the white screw
clockwise for five clicks (Figure 2-26).
EX. 2 If the number in parentheses under FILM SPEED (3) is 4, turn the white screw
clockwise for four clicks.
