Number of students in class higher than ever.

This new year that has just started in St.Patrick school in the
3rd year of ESO the number of students in class is higher
than ever with a number of 34 students per class. This has
happened because three new students came in and there
have been two repeaters and the basque government won´t
let the school make another class.

 A finally organised dining room
Some transparent, plastic bowls are on
each table this year. The main reason for
this is to have the forks and knives
organised, so that theyʼre easier to pick up
after lunch.
The direction, which is responsible for the
dining room cleaning system, trying to
avoid messy tables, has introduced this
new rule in order to make the lives of the
cooks easier. The rule consists of putting
your knives and forks together, in the
containers, as soon as you finish your
lunch, but in an interview with a dining
room cleaner, she said “Itʼs nonsense to
set any rules if the people donʼt respect
them. Really, Iʼm not very happy with it.” So
if the rule is respected, the dining room will
become a nicer and cleaner pace to eat in.

ST. PATRICK’S NEW ERA
The directive of St. Patrickʼs English school
is already talking about bringing our own
LAPTOPS to class. This new idea will
affect the pupils from 3rd year primary
school to 2nd year secondary school. We
donʼt know exactly when it will be yet but
this improvement of studying will be in a
near future.

Crazy prices!!!
This year in our school all the prices of the
dining room have gone up. The price that is
the highest is the price of the sandwiches
and of the apples. I asked Isabel (the head
dinner-lady) why this prices and she told
me: “I donʼt know the specific reason, but
we do what the business Aibak (where we
buy the food) told us that we had to get the
prices higher and I think that is because

STRIKING WASTE OF SWINE-
FLU SOAP
Many people will have noticed by now, the
strange soap containers that have been
installed in each and every classroom of
the school. The reason? The increasing
amount of swine flu around the world. The
thing is, some of the students in the school
have thought that the soap, can be wasted
and played around with, but this is certainly
unacceptable. Firstly, because these health
measures donʼt come in cheap and
secondly because the soap, being a
hydrochloric solution; is not good to your
hands if applied more than necessary.
In one of my sources words: “I donʼt think it
appropriate for my classmates to be
playing around with that hand-cleaner
(soap), it could be dangerous and
irritating”.
“We should treat these drastic measures

more seriously. I mean none of us want to
get infected by a deathly virus” said

In my own class, we have already finished
the first bottle of soap, weʼre in for the
second one and after the talk we received
from the school co-ordinator it seems that
we have satisfied our appetite for soap.

This summer, we had to say good bye to
Miss Celia, our English teacher when we
were little. “Since Easter she had been
feeling bad” said Susie, but she didnʼt think
she was going to let us in the middle of
August. Breast cancer stole Miss Celia
away from us, here, in San Sebastian, so
the funeral was held in Aiete´s church.
“There were a lot of ex students and
members of her family” said a studentʼs
mum”. We will miss her dearly.

ANOTHER CHILD IN THE WORLD!
The St. Patrickʼs Basque primary teacher,
Maria Del Campo, is pregnant. She got
pregnant on May 2009 and on January
2010 she will give birth. As she said ¨I donʼt
mind the sex¨. However, yesterday, after
the gynaecologist appointment she finally
knew that the baby will be a male and they
have decided to call him Imanol.

This year and last year some changes
have been made in school because of the
new L.O.E. Last year the school started
giving us two more hours and a second
tutor hour per week because of the Basque
Government, and this year the way of
studying has changed. Instead of learning
by memorising a lot things now we have to

As a result of the new Basque
Government and its new curriculum, the
Basque exemption law has got tougher.
In previous years, an exempt student did
not have to study Basque, but after this
change an exempt student will only have
one Basque-free year and then start
learning it. This will affect mostly
immigrants in the Basque Country
because they have never studied it
before. The Basque government is
promoting this law to get more Basque

 Destination: Southampton!
This year, 20 students from the third year
of St. Patrick's school are going to go on an
exchange to Southampton with Susie
Ephgrave and Igone Arrazola. At first there
were 37 Spanish students and only 20
English students but as the dates that the
English students are coming to Spain are
just the week before the final exams of the
year some Spanish students decided not to
go. One of the students that is going on the
exchange said, "It is going to be
wonderful". In the end only three Spanish
students that wanted to go are not taking
part.

Exchange to France
The 3 of ESO students and two teachers
are going to travel to France. St Patrick´s
students are going to travel by train or by
bus. The French students will came here in
February or in April and our students are
going to travel at the same time that the
English exchange.
They will be in a small French town,in
Burdeaux. The school impulse this
exchange to motivate to speak french and
to impulse this language.

Death in Balu.
The owner of the sweet shop Balu, situated
in the Buen Pastor plaza died this last
summer, in August. As some people told
me they all knew that he wasnʼt very well
and he started to feel bad. When he went
to hospital, the doctors detected a cancer
of the pancreas. The cancer of pancreas
appears when you are not very well and
you donʼt look after your health. And this is
the reason why he died, because he didnʼt
look after himself properly.

Meeting Brad Pitt
Some students at San Patrickʼs English
school met Brad Pitt. All this happened the
Saturday 19th of September, when Brad Pitt
was in San Sebastian because of the film
festival. He appeared by surprise in the
Chillida-Leku museum to see the paintings
and the sculptures of the museum. Then
the students of the school Laura, Rocio,
Patricia and Andrea grandsons of Eduardo
Chillida had the chance of speaking with
him. One of these girls called Laura said, “,
I could not believe it, he kissed me and he
told me it was nice to meet me, It was
really exciting ” To finish his visit he went to
see the Comb of the Winds, the most
famous sculpture by Eduardo Chillida.

Surf in san Sebastian
The new surf school is now open in La
Zurriola. This fantastic local is now famous
thanks to St. Patrickʼs students. The local
got open in June and it still works like a
good place to do surf. As Martin Cabello
said “Itʼs a good place where have fun and
learn how to surf”. However, sometime they
have some accidents with tourists, but as
Maria Fernandez said “Never worry about
other people doing surf, is the sea, and
you”.
