Application
For rem ote and autom atic controls there is often a
need for contactors w hich have tw o stable contact
positions, even in the dead state. This requirem ent
is fulfilled by changeover contactors type PSU ..n..
The application of alternate control pulses to the
coils cause the contacts to change from the one
state to the other. If the supply is interrupted, the
contacts rem ain in their previous position, even
w hen the voltage is restored.
Description
B asically, the PSU changeover contactors are
com posed of the sam e constructional elem ents as
the established contactors type P8n. Tw o m agnet
system s are inter- connected by a pivoted elem ent.
In the type PSU 6n... w ith 6 free contacts, only one
system has contacts; in type PSU 14n... w ith 14 free
contacts, both system s have contacts. In each case
tw o contacts are required for changing over the
connection of the coils.
The contacts are arranged sym m etrically on
both sides of the relay coil and arm ature
assem bly in tw o stacks. They are easily accessible
and the conversion from N /C to N /O contacts
and vice versa is sim ple. The m axim um rated
voltage is 250V D C or AC and the m aterial
used is hard silver.
The follow ing definitions apply for reset and operate
condition:
R eset condition - Arm ature assem bly position is
aw ay from the base i.e. the upper system has been
pulsed and low er system is ready to be pulsed.
The flag strips are invisible i.e. w hite during this
condition. O perate condition - Arm ature assem bly
position is closer to the base i.e. the low er system
has been pulsed and upper system is ready to be
pulsed. The flag strips are visible i.e. red during this
condition.
A transparent, incom bustible cover w ith a gasket
protects the contacts against dirt. The term inals of
the contact stacks them selves perm it tw o w ires of
1.5m m diam eter m axim um to be secured. The
term inals on the base for the external w iring have
holes w ith a diam eter of 3.8m m . The term inals on
the plug-in base can accom m odate tw o w ires, each
w ith a cross-section of 2.5m m

C hangeover relays m ust alw ays be m ounted w ith
the contact post horizontal, that is w ith the base on
a vertical surface. The plug-in version offers m any
advantages, both from the point of view of
installation and afterw ards for m aintenance. It is
fitted w ith locating pegs w hich prevent it from being
inserted the w rong w ay round. The labelling of the
term inals on the base is identical to that on the
contact stacks.
Type designation of auxiliary relays
Exam ple: PSU 14nX denotes a PSU type relay w ith 7 free contacts, m ounted on one set of plug-in base.
