Technology and Mathematics Education: A Multidimensional Study of the Evolution of Research and Innovation Jean-Baptiste Lagrange, Michle Artigue, Colette Laborde, Luc Trouche
Methodology and Result of the study
We were aware of the methodology interest in a meta-study because of limitations of informal methods as emphasized by Bangert-Drowns and Rudner(1991): The amount of information on a given topic is often overwhelming and not amenable to summary. It is difficult to determine if outcome differences are attributable to chance, to methodological inadequacies, or to systematic differences in study characteristics. Informal methods of narrative review permit biases to remain easily undetected. We also wanted to go beyond a synthesis of outcome findings. The reason is that syntheses or findings generally conclude by favouring strong potentialities of ICT but give few explanations for the contracting poor real classroom use. This research result would enable the teachers to strengthen the use of technology inside the classroom as a tool to aid the learning in Mathematics. Teaching and learning involve complex process, and bringing in ICT adds even more complexity as stressed in the researched study but with patience and dedication, these undertakings will be easily solved. This is just a matter of understanding on the integration of ICT in school. The result of the study will be my guide on the idea of conceptualizing literature through the use of information and communication technology (ICT) to facilitate learning of my students in mathematics. In essence, the use of ICT will bring fun, enjoyment and active participation of the students in which they can process concept they learned and may share it to others. Abstract
This chapter will highlight the interest and necessity of considering a plurality of perspectives (or dimensions) when addressing the issue of the integration of information and communication technologies (ICT) into the teaching and learning of mathematics. It will also show how this multidimensional perspective can be efficient for an analysis of the existing literature. The paper draws on a metastudy of a comprehensive corpus of publications about research and innovation in the worldwide field of the integration of ICT from 1994 to 1998, For this study we built a multidimensional framework and a data analysis procedure, and obtained a synthesis of literature. The study of ten research papers that the statistical procedure made appear as paradigmatic examples helped to discern an evolution towards more awareness of the complexity of ICT integration. The multidimensional framework aims to provide innovators and researchers with a set of references to deal with this complexity.

The use of computer as a hands-on experience is of great help in the part of the students in their studies if it will be used for educational purposes and with limitations. Doing research would be easy for them to access on the references or on the subject they wanted to find to. Also, they can do or save the activities done during the research. Using this technology in doing a research will be effortless on finding the references but with doing some activities other than researching will take time to do so most especially if difficulty in the use of other program is manifested.
