Rifampicin, Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide and Ethambutol are examples of anti-
tuberculosis medications. hey can !ill or stop the "ro#th of the bacteria that
cause tuberculosis $%&. It is necessary to "i'e se'eral of these dru"s in
combination to effecti'ely treat %.

Pyrazinamide)
Pyrazinamide comes as a tablet to be ta!en by mouth. It is usually ta!en once
a day $at the same time each day&. Pyrazinamide may be ta!en #ith or #ithout
food.
Isoniazid)
Isoniazid comes as a tablet to be ta!en by mouth. It is usually ta!en once a day
$at the same time each day&. Isoniazid is to be be ta!en on an empty stomach.
*our doctor may also #ant you to ta!e pyridoxine $+itamin % ,& e'ery day to
help pre'ent or lessen some of the side-effects of isoniazid. If it is needed, it is
'ery important to ta!e pyridoxine e'ery day alon" #ith this medicine. -o not
miss any doses.
Rifampicin)
Rifampin comes as a capsule to be ta!en by mouth. It is usually ta!en once a
day. Rifampin is to be ta!en on an empty stomach.

Ethambutol comes as a tablet to be ta!en by mouth. It is usually ta!en once a
day in the mornin". Ethambutol may be ta!en #ith or #ithout food.

o help clear up your % infection completely, you must !eep ta!in" these
medicines for the full time of treatment, e'en if you be"in to feel better.
Inade/uate treatment can lead to recurrence of infection or result in the
de'elopment of resistance to treatment. It is also important that you do not
miss any doses.

sputum, s#eat, and tears to turn reddish-oran"e to reddish-bro#n. his
effect may cause soft contact lenses to become permanently
discoloured. 5tandard cleanin" solutions may not remo'e the
discolouration. herefore, it is best not to #ear soft contact lenses
#hile ta!in" this medicine. his condition #ill return to normal once
you stop ta!in" this medicine. 6ard contact lenses are not discoloured
by rifampicin.
