-more Italians than Chinese (back then), then more Chinese
-now, a mix of young people and new stores
-lost its culture; more commercial
-not traditional close family; more mind your own business now
-students live in apartments; always in and out
-older people left neighborhood; still a few left now(Italians and a
few Chinese), the Chinese take their whole families with them
- change in stores; now boutiques and SO MANY BARS which they
never had before
-used to be mom & pop stores, butchers, groceries around the
corner; very family oriented
-used to be neighborhood, now no longer tight knit
-housing now too expensive to live in
-can't raise a family there
-NOTHING, there's NOTHING, everything's gone! ... but it's safe
Architecture

-Saint Patrickʼs Old Cathedral

-The corner stone of Old St. Patrick's - the city's first


Cathedral Church

-Beneath the church lies a labyrinth of well-kept mortuary


vaults and outside, is a cemetery containing many old
graves and tombstones.

-The Old Cathedral ceased to be the seat of the Archdiocese


of New York and became a parish church on May 25,1879.

-One of the first sites to be named a New York landmark

-On Saturday’s the church opens its doors to shoppers, as


young, up and coming designers set up and sell their goods
in the recreation hall.

-Puck Building

-Once the printing facility of J. Ottmann Lithographing Company and


the Puck Magazine, which ceased publication in 1918, the building now
contains office space as well as ballrooms for large events on both the
ground floor and the top floor.

-The building once housed numerous independent printing firms and


related printing services such as type setters and a printing ink
company, Superior Printing Ink. The odor of printing ink permeated the
building for many years.
