In compliance to the request of the Board of the Faculty of
Pharmacy, Cairo University awards the following postgraduate
Diplomas, and professional and scientific degrees:
! Postgraduate Diplomas "speciali#ed$
%! Doctor of Pharmacy degree "Pharm! D!, professional$
&! 'aster degrees "'! (c!$ in Pharmaceutical (ciences "in the area
of speciali#ation$
)! Doctor of Philosophy degrees "Ph! D!$ in Pharmaceutical (ciences
"in the area of speciali#ation$

*he Board of the Faculty is allowed, +ased on Departmental
Boards and Postgraduate (tudent and ,esearch -ffairs "P(,-$
Committee approvals and upon consent of the University Board and
that of the (upreme Council of Universities "(CU$, to introduce new
areas of speciali#ation in programs concerning Diplomas, and '! (c!
and Ph!D! degrees in the field of Pharmaceutical (ciences in order to
meet current and future needs!

Article 3: Academic Year Calendar
Articl %# Aca&mic Yar Caln&ar
*he academic year +egins in .cto+er for the full/time course/
+ased programs offered at the faculty and is continued for % months!
It consists of % semesters, the first starting in .cto+er and the second
in -pril! 0acations are allowed at the end of the e1aminations periods,
after each semester, and as determined +y the Board of the Faculty!
Articl '# A((lication Caln&ar
-pplications to postgraduate Diplomas, Pharm!D! and '! (c!
programs, are su+mitted once a year, in 2uly, to the P(,-
-dministration .ffice! -dmission decisions are announced in
(eptem+er providing all supporting credentials are received and
University fees paid!
Articl )# A&mi!!ion R*uirmnt!
A. In addition to the particular requirements necessary for
registration to Postgraduate Diplomas and Professional and
(cientific Degrees mentioned in articles 3%, %4, & and &56,
applicants are admitted at the Faculty upon fulfillment of the
following:
! -cquisition of an approval from the concerned Departmental
Board!
%! (u+mission of all requested credentials to the P(,-
-dministration .ffice 3Baccalaureate certificate, 7rades
certificate, 'ilitary service status document "for males only$ and
Birth certificate6
&! (u+mission of an employment authority approval to pursue
postgraduate studies in the selected program comprising an
agreement to necessary dedication for its achievement and
specifying the location for performance of la+oratory
e1periments throughout the practical wor8 of '! (c! and Ph!D!
candidates!

B. -dditional admission requirements may +e imposed +y the
individual Departmental Boards, if necessary! *he num+er of
admitted students is limited and +ased on availa+le Departmental
and Faculty facilities!
C. -ppliance to more than one Diploma or degree program at a time
is not allowed e1cept upon approval of the P(,- University Board
and as recommended +y the Faculty Board after consultation of
the concerned Departmental Board!
Articl +# Su!(n!ion of A&mi!!ion ,
R-i!tration
A. *he Faculty Board may suspend the admission9 registration of any
postgraduate student, as indicated +y the concerned Departmental
Board and the P(,- Committee!
B. (uspension is authori#ed for a length of time not e1ceeding &:
months; it should +e annually renewed within the initial period
designated for the program and is not allowed during the e1tension
interval!
C. -uthori#ed admission suspensions are allowed in case of
withdrawal due to leave for: entering military service, traveling
a+road in an official mission, health pro+lems, delivery, child care
or other reasons accepta+le +y the P(,- Committee and
approved +y the Faculty Board! Before or at the end of the
suspension period, the student should su+mit a petition for
readmission in the program!
D. *he suspension period is e1cluded from the period designated for
the program and with no tuition and fees!

,elying on the P(,- Committee and concerned Departmental
Board approvals, the Faculty Board may cancel the student admission
9 registration to a specific program +ased on articles 3%&, %<, &: and
)&6!
Articl /# Ra&mi!!ion , R0R-i!tration
A. *he Faculty Board may agree to readmit a student after at least a
year from cancellation of his admission for any of the motives
mentioned in articles 3=, %&, %<, &: and )&6! *his +ased on
approval of the P(,- Committee and concerned Departmental
Board! *he applicant should conform to all regulations and fulfill all
the admission requirements of the particular program as
mentioned in article 346!
B. *he readmitted student in a '! (c! program may +e e1empted
from courses he already successfully completed providing this
occurred within the last 4 years preceding readmission, and upon
approval of the concerned Departmental Board and on consent of
the Faculty Board!

Articl 1# Curricula an& Cour!!
A. *he faculty adopts the credit hours system
B. *he Departmental Boards are committed to provide a complete list
of the courses they offer to postgraduate students with a full
description of their content! *he num+er of credit hours assigned
for each course should +e specified and the curricula approved +y
the P(,- committee prior su+mission to the Faculty Board!
C. *he courses are distri+uted among the semesters as indicated for
each program!

D. *he Departmental Boards are allowed, on consent of the Faculty
Board, to modify their own curricula or to offer new courses within
the credit hour limits of each program!

Articl "2# Cour! Enco&in- Sy!tm
A. Postgraduate courses are encoded +ased on a four/digit system
and classified at three levels:
! Code >>> courses for Diplomas and Pharm! D! degree!
%! Code %>>> courses for '! (c! degrees!
&! Code &>>> courses for Ph! D! degrees!
B. (peciali#ed courses are encoded +y designating the program level
+y the thousands digit, followed +y the code num+er of the
department at the hundreds digit then that of the particular course
at the tens and units digits!
C. Courses indicated as common faculty requisites for '! (c!
programs are designated +y the code num+er % at the thousands
digit followed +y the course num+er at the tens and units digits!
*he hundreds digit is here #ero!
D. Courses of code %>>> may +e requested in Diploma programs,
those of code >>> in '!(c! degrees and those of codes >>> or
%>>> or +oth in Ph! D! degrees!
Articl ""# Cr&it hour!
A. ?ach credit hour "i!e! unit$ is equivalent to any of the following: a
lecture of hour 9 wee8, a la+oratory session of % or & hours 9
wee8 or Practice and Clinical ,otations of : hours 9 wee8,
throughout the whole semester!
B. ?ach credit hour is assigned 4> mar8s during evaluation!
C. ?ach credit hour should +e assessed +y a written e1amination of
at least hour duration! *ime allowed for any e1am should not +e

shorter than hour and not e1ceeding & hours for any of the
taught courses!
Articl "$# Tran!fr of cr&it
*he Faculty Board may, upon recommendation from the
interested Departmental Board and consent of the P(,- committee,
approve a num+er of postgraduate credit transfers! *his is applica+le
to courses successfully attended +y the student, at any faculty or
institute recogni#ed +y the (upreme Council of Universities "(CU$,
throughout the last 4 years preceding his admission to Diplomas, and
Pharm! D! and '! (c! degrees!
Articl "%# Cour!! R-i!tration Gui&lin!
A. (tudents enrolled in a specific program should register for required
courses during the first % wee8s of each semester!
B. (tudents may add 9 drop any course +efore the end of the second
wee8 of each semester! @owever, students have to +ear in mind
that they should register for courses representing a minimum of
%9& the credit hours offered in each semester!
C. (tudents are eligi+le to withdraw from any course ) wee8s +efore
the e1aminations start! Ao credit is earned for this officially
withdrawn course! Its grade, designated +y W, will remain on the
transcript without affecting the 7rade Point -verage "7P-$!
D. (1) ,epeated registration for score improvement, in case of
success in a particular course, is availa+le! (tudentBs grade
points in all assessments will +e included in computation of his
C7P-!
(2) ,e/registration in case of failure is allowed only twice for a
particular course! (tudentBs grade points in all assessments will
+e included in computation of his C7P-!
E. (tudents are permitted to register in courses held outside their
departments, the faculty or university upon a request from their

respective Departmental Boards su+mitted for approval to the
Faculty Board! 7rades o+tained will +e computed in the 7P-
providing this "these$ course "s$ meets "meet$ the program
requirements!
F. (tudents having attended less than =4C of the total hours
specified for a particular course are su+Dected to a forced
withdrawal! *his +ased on the course instructorBs report su+mitted
to the Departmental Board and approved +y the P(,- Committee
and the Faculty Board! - pro+ation notice is sent to the student
through the P(,- -dministration .ffice! *he course is designated
on the transcript +y FW "forced withdrawal$ and is considered as a
failure "F$!
Articl "'# E3amination! an& Evaluation
Sy!tm
A. *he first semester e1aminations are held in Fe+ruary and those of
the second semester in (eptem+er and in commitment with article
3&6!
B. *he Faculty Board may consent to a studentBs petition "s$ for
course "s$ withdrawal twice only during his enrollment in the
program, providing this "these$ +eing su+mitted +efore the
e1aminations start! Petitions should +e supported +y a
documented e1cusa+le motive accepta+le +y the P(,- committee
and the Faculty Board 3refer to article ) C6!
C. *o succeed in a particular course, students must score at least
&>C of the mar8 specified for the final written e1amination and
:>C or +etter from the total mar8 specified for the course!
D. (tudents a+sent from the final e1am of a particular course without
an e1cusa+le accepted motive are graded ABS in that course and
considered as failed "F$!
E. (tudents failing to perform in a compulsory course "s$ should
repeat registration and e1amination at the same semester of the
following academic year!
F. (tudents failing to perform in an elective course "s$ may su+stitute
this "these$ course "s$ +y another "others$! Credits earned in the
selected new course "s$ are those computed in the 7P-!
G. 7rade Points are numerical units used to evaluate the studentsB
achievement standards that are e1pressed in term of mar8s!

*herefore, results o+tained for individual courses are given in
points!
H. - four/point system of grading ") points 9 credit hour$, that includes
"E$ grades, is adopted! 7rades are evaluated in terms of grade

as follows:
. *he Cumulative 7P- "C7P-$ is the average of all final grades
o+tained within an academic program!
!. Courses for which e1emptions have +een granted will not +e
included in the 7P- computation, +ut those transferred for credit
will +e included! *he 7P- reported on the final transcript displays %
decimals and is truncated not rounded! *he official faculty 7P- for
postgraduate students is %!>>
". Pro+ation notices are addressed to students whose C7P- values
have fallen +elow %!>>! - student on pro+ation must raise his
C7P- to a minimum of %!>> within % semesters! (tudents with a

'! (c!$ in planning their study, and monitor their progress! *hey are
further replaced +y Dissertation "*hesis$ -dvisors in case of Ph! D!
candidates and of those following a '! (c! program upon
achievement of their course requirements!

Articl "+# R!arch Th!i! A&vi!mnt
A. Committee composition:
! - 'aDor *hesis -dvisor "Professor or -ssistant Professor at the
concerned department$ is appointed +y the Faculty Board, as
suggested +y the Departmental Board and on consent of the P(,-
Committee, to follow up and evaluate the scientific performance of
the candidate up to the dissertation defense! @e is assisted +y Co/
-dvisors "Professors, -ssistant Professors or Iecturers$!
%! Iecturers are eligi+le as thesis co/advisers after a minimum year
from +eing assigned in that position "or having at least one
research paper accepted for pu+lication$ in case of '! (c! theses
and & years "or having % papers with at least one pu+lished$ in case
of Ph! D! theses!
&! *he advising committee in case of '! (c! theses consists of &
mem+ers while that of Ph! D! theses is composed of ), when
diverse la+oratory investigations are required!
B. Co/-dvisors selected from outside the university should not e1ceed
in num+er the university advising mem+ers!
C. -n international mem+er may +e anne1ed to the *hesis -dvising
Committee for students enrolled in a (cientific Channel Program!
D. -ny academic staff mem+er should not contri+ute in advising more
than > theses at a time +eside those prepared +y demonstrators
or teaching assistants "*-s$ and including not more than & theses
prepared +y international students!
E. (ingle advisors of Ph! D! or '! (c! theses should, in case of
transfer or leave, su+mit full reports on the thesis "theses$ they are
advising and propose other advisors to the Departmental Board!

F. *ransferred advisors remain as mem+ers of -dvising Committees
if their leave is after a calendar year of +eing assigned!
G. -dvisors deceased after at least one year of +eing appointed in the
committee conserve all financial and academic wrights
corresponding to the duration of their advisement! *he
Departmental Board may, however, nominate other advisors!
H. In case a new mem+er is anne1ed to the -dvising Committee of a
particular thesis, the 2ury Committee could not +e appointed
+efore the elapse of : months, providing the time to student
degree is still valid and permit this delay!

Articl ".# 5o&i6cation in th R!arch To(ic
*he Departmental Board may, upon the 'aDor -dvisorBs request,
admit modification in the research topic of a thesis! *his change may
involve a concurrent reconstitution of the advising committee, and is
allowed only once within % years from registration for the program! In
this case, the date the modification is approved +y the Faculty Board,
upon consent of the P(,- Committee, is considered as the
postgraduate studentBs new registration date!
Articl "/# R!arch Th!i!

A. .nce the '! (c! or Ph! D! student has completed the thesis he
should give a seminar "comprising an open discussion in his area
of research$ focusing on the aims and goals of his thesis and
demonstrating to what e1tend the research topic has +een
covered!
B. .nce the dissertation is ready for defense, the 'aDor -dvisor refers
to the Departmental Board his suggestions towards appointing the
*hesis 2ury Committee, this to +e forwarded to the P(,-

Committee then to the Faculty Board see8ing for approval! *his
supported +y the following credentials:
! - validity report on the thesis signed +y all the mem+ers of the
-dvising Committee!
%! - copy of the dissertation that conforms to the format specified
+y the faculty!
C. *he student should su+mit, as well, to the Departmental Board the
necessary documents that confirm the pu+lication "or acceptance
for pu+lication$ of at least one scientific manuscript from his
research findings prior thesis defense! .nly a recogni#ed scientific
Dournal or conference is accepta+le!
Articl "1# Th!i! 7ury Committ
A. *he *hesis 2ury Committee is appointed +y the Faculty
Board, as recommended +y the concerned Departmental Board
and on consent of the P(,- Committee! *he 2ury consists of at
least & mem+ers, one of whom is the maDor advisor "or all the
advisors counted as a single vote$! *he two others are selected
among professors or assistant professors wor8ing at ?gyptian
Universities! In case of '! (c! theses, at least one mem+er should
+e from outside the Faculty; while for Ph!D! theses, at least one
mem+er should +e from outside the University!
B. *he *hesis 2ury Committee is legi+le for a period of only :
months starting from the date of approval of its appointment +y the
University 0ice President for P(,-, and may +e renewed only
once or another committee is appointed!
C. *he defense must +e open to the academic community of the
University! Individual reports a+out the thesis are separately
prepared +y the different mem+ers of the 2ury! In addition, the 2ury
Committee as a whole prepares and su+mits a collective report
signed +y all the mem+ers of the 2ury! -ll reports are forwarded to
the Departmental Board, the P(,- Committee and the Faculty
Board prior see8ing for the consent of the University Board!

D. *he Faculty Board may, as recommended +y the *hesis 2ury
Committee, return the dissertation +ac8 to the student for revision,
performance of corrections and fulfillment of any requirements or
another dissertation may +e requested!
E. *he maDor advisor has to su+mit a report to the Departmental
Board to ascertain the performance of corrections and fulfillment of
all requirements indicated +y the *hesis 2ury Committee!
F. *he degree is considered to +e awarded from the date the
Faculty Board has agreed the studentBs fulfillment of all degree
requirements!

-ccording to article 36, Cairo University, +ased on
recommendation of the Faculty Board, awards postgraduate diplomas

*he graduation certificate awarded indicates the title of the
diploma and the qualification standard acquired +y the graduate!
Articl $"# A&mi!!ion R*uirmnt!
In addition to the minimum requirements mentioned in article 346,
students are eligi+le for admission to postgraduate diplomas if they
meet the following program requirements:
A. *hey should +e holders of Baccalaureates in Pharmaceutical
(ciences "B! Ph! (c!$ from any Faculty of Pharmacy affiliated to
the ?gyptian Universities "?U$ or an equivalent degree granted +y
any institute recogni#ed +y the (upreme Council of Universities
"(CU$!
B. @olders of Baccalaureates in appropriate fields, other than
Pharmacy, with a minimum grade K7oodK may apply to the
program providing the degrees are granted +y any ?U or
equivalents are acquired from institutes recogni#ed +y the (CU!
*his is allowed in certain areas of study and as specified +y the
concerned Departmental Boards!
!@olders of Baccalaureates in -gricultural (ciences "B! (c! -gric!$,
in the following areas of speciali#ation: Plant (ciences, Plant
Production (ciences or 7eneral -gricultural Production, are
admitted to the KDiploma of 'edicinal PlantsK! *his providing the
degree is awarded +y any ?U or its equivalent is o+tained from
an institute recogni#ed +y the (CU!
%!@olders of Baccalaureates in (cience "B! (c!$, in the following
areas of speciali#ation: Chemistry, Botany or Chemistry/Botany,
are admitted to the KDiploma of *o1icology and Forensic
Chemical -nalysisK! *his providing the degree is awarded +y any
?U or its equivalent is o+tained from an institute recogni#ed +y
the (CU!
&!@olders of 'edical Bachelor and Bachelor in (urgery degree "'!
B! B! Ch!$ from any ?U or an equivalent degree from any other
institute recogni#ed +y the (CU are admitted to the KDiploma of
Pharmacology and *o1icologyK!

4! @olders of Bachelor in (cience "'icro+iology$, Bachelor in
?ngineering "B! ?ng!$ "Chemical ?ngineering$ or Bachelor in
-gricultural (ciences "Food *echnology$ degrees are admitted to
the KDiploma of BiotechnologyK! *his providing the degree is
awarded +y any ?U or its equivalent is o+tained from an institute
recogni#ed +y the (CU!
:!@olders of Baccalaureates in (cience in the following areas of
speciali#ation Chemistry or -pplied Chemistry are admitted to the
KDiploma of Pharmaceutical ,aw 'aterials (ynthesis
*echnologyK, providing the degree is awarded +y any ?U or its
equivalent is o+tained from an institute recogni#ed +y the (CU!
=!@olders of 'edical Bachelor and Bachelor in (urgery degree "'!
B! B! Ch!$ or Bachelor in 0eterinary 'edical (ciences or
Bachelor in science "B! (c!$ degree in the following areas of
speciali#ation: Biochemistry, Chemistry/Biochemistry or
Biochemistry/Autrition are admitted to the KDiploma of
Biochemical -nalysisK! *his providing the degree is awarded +y
any ?U or its equivalent is o+tained from an institute recogni#ed
+y the (CU!
C. -pplicants should have completed a minimum of one year in
a position related to the area selected for study!
D. (tudents must devote full/time to their coursewor8 study for
an academic year!
Articl $$# Sy!tm of Stu&y
A. *he academic year in Diploma programs consists of % semesters
with day instruction hours and according to the schedules
indicated +y the Faculty -dministration!

B. -dmitted students should, as stipulated +y the Departmental
Boards and on consent of the Faculty Board, accomplish a total of
at least %=/&% credit hours as program requirements including
coursewor8 and research proDect!
C. (tudents enrolled in Diploma programs register for courses at the
level >>>! @owever, certain courses at the level %>>> "specific to
'! (c! candidates$ may +e requested!
D. (tudents should su+mit individual research proDects concerned
with their area of speciali#ation and dealing with a su+Dect
approved +y the academic advisors appointed +y the
Departmental Boards!
E. ?valuation of studentsB performance in the different courses is
carried out as mentioned in article 3) 76!
F. Courses are offered for a particular Diploma +y the concerned
department upon admission of a minimum 4 applicants to the
program!
Articl $%# Cancllation of A&mi!!ion ,
R-i!tration
*he Faculty Board may cancel studentsB admission in the
following circumstances:
A. Failure to achieve all graduation requirements within & years from
admission including intervals of authori#ed suspension!
B. Ina+ility to pay the total tuition and fees assessed for the program
C. (u+mission of withdrawal requests from the program as discussed
in article 3=6!

of Pharmacy degree in the field of Clinical Pharmacy! *his degree is
professional and does not allow further enrollment in Ph! D! degrees!

A. -pplicants should have a BachelorBs degree in Pharmaceutical
(ciences with a minimum grade K0ery 7oodK from any ?U or an
equivalent degree from an institute recogni#ed +y the (CU!
B. Ideal candidates should have spent at least one year practicing
in a profession directly related to patients!
C. (tudents must devote fulltime to their study for % calendar years!

A. *he professional curriculum leading to the Pharm! D! degree
requires two years of fulltime study including course/wor8,
practical and clinical training with a total of at least =% credit hours!

A. (tudentBs performance is evaluated during the first academic year
as mentioned in article 3)6!
B. (tudentBs performance in the Practice and Clinical ,otations,
during the second year, will +e evaluated through assignment of
short research wor8 and qui##es, as well as discussion of patientsB
cases! *he student should acquire an Kaccepta+leK grade at
minimum ":4 / F => C$ +y the end of the assessment "i!e! should
successfully complete the practical training$!

In addition to the minimum requirements, mentioned in article 346,
applicants to '! (c! degrees should meet the following program
requirements:
A. *hey should +e holders of Baccalaureates in Pharmaceutical
(ciences "B! Ph! (c!$ with a minimum grade K7oodK from any
Faculty of Pharmacy affiliated to the ?U or an equivalent degree
granted +y any institute recogni#ed +y the (CU! In addition to a
minimum average grade K0ery 7oodK in the undergraduate
courses related to the area of speciali#ation as determined +y the
concerned Departmental Board!
B. *he Faculty Board, relying on Departmental Boards
recommendations, may admit to the program holders of B! Ph! (c!
with grade K-ccepta+leK if they have successfully achieved a
speciali#ed Diploma with a final grade K0ery 7oodK at any Faculty
of Pharmacy affiliated to the ?U or an equivalent degree granted
+y any institute recogni#ed +y the (CU!
C. *he applicant should +e wholly engaged in his study for a
minimum of % days 9 wee8 for % years!
Articl %$# Pro-ram Da&lin!

A. (tudents are eligi+le to graduate after a minimum of a year and
half "5 months$ from the date of approval of registration +y the
Faculty Board!

B. (tudents should fulfill all the degree requirements within a
ma1imum of 4 years from registration; time spent on approved
leave or a+sence "authori#ed suspension$ will not count towards
time to degree! ?1tension is allowed for a period of % calendar
years at ma1imum upon request of the 'aDor -dvisor and in
compliance with the concerned Departmental Board, the P(,-
Committee, the Faculty Board and the University P(,- Board!
C. (tudentsB registration to the thesis research topic should +e no
later than five years from completion of the 'asterBs course/wor8
requirements!
Articl %%# Sy!tm of Stu&y
A. - total of at least &: credit hours is required for '! (c! degree
including course/wor8 and thesis!
B. 'inimum course/wor8 requirements range from 5/%> credit hours
as indicated +y the Faculty Board and upon suggestion of the
Departmental Boards! %>>>/level courses should +e selected so
as to include faculty requirement courses "compulsory, : credit
hours$ and speciali#ed core courses "+oth compulsory and
elective$!
C. (tudents must complete a research thesis on a topic selected +y
the 'aDor -dvisors and approved +y the concerned Departmental
Boards, the P(,- Committee and the Faculty Board; 5 credit
hours are earned for the research thesis!
Articl %'# A&vi!mnt
A. In addition to items of article 3:6, advisors should annually su+mit
a progress report on the studentBs performance to the
Departmental Board!
B. *he faculty Board is allowed to modify the -dvising Committee +y
either deletion or anne1ment or +oth, as suggested +y the 'aDor
-dvisor and upon approval of the Departmental Board and the
P(,- Committee, and in agreement with article 3:6!

C. In case of transfer or leave of an advisor for a period e1ceeding a
calendar year, the Faculty Board may modify the -dvising
Committee +y anne1ing a new mem+er or deletion of the
transferred one if his leave is +efore the elapse of a calendar year
from +eing assigned! *his, as recommended +y the Departmental
Board and on approval of the P(,- Committee and in agreement
with article 3:6!

*he University Board, in compliance with the Faculty Board, the
P(,- Committee and the concerned Departmental Board, awards the

A. In addition to the general requirements mentioned in article 346,

minimum score )4> "paper/+ased$, or su+mit a certificate of
success in the test within ) years from registration to the program!
2. (u+mit a proof of acquiring the International Computer Driving

B. *he research thesis is counted for :> credit hours, and is
performed on a topic selected +y the 'aDor -dvisor and approved

for each course are also indicated!
Articl ')# Pro-ram Gui&lin!
A. *he Faculty Board may upon suggestion of the different
Departmental Boards consent to hold training sessions or
seminars at the postgraduate level to provide continuous
innovative pharmacy education to practicing pharmacists and
professionals holding necessary recogni#ed degrees!
B. Aational and international scientific associations, as well as
interested organi#ations and institutions may participate in the
training sessions and seminars arrangement!
C. Participants in these sessions or seminars may +e granted non/
degree certificate proofs!
