Workspace tour

Welcome to CorelDRAW, a comprehensive vector-based drawing and graphic-design program for


the graphics professional.
In this tutorial, ou will become familiar with the terminolog and wor!space of CorelDRAW.

CorelDRAW application window
When ou launch CorelDRAW, the application window opens containing a drawing window. 'he
rectangle in the center of the drawing window is the drawing page where ou create our
drawing.
Although more than one drawing window can be opened, ou can appl commands to the active
drawing window onl.

Application commands are accessible through the menu bar, toolbars, propert bar, doc!ers, and
toolbo&. 'he propert bar and doc!ers provide access to commands that relate to the active tool

current tas!. 'he propert bar, doc!ers, toolbars, and toolbo& can be opened, closed, and moved
around our screen at an time.

Property bar
'he propert bar displas the most commonl used functions that are relevant to the active tool

to the tas! ouBre performing. Although it loo!s li!e a toolbar, the propert bar has content that
changes depending on the tool or tas!.
3or e&ample, when ou clic! the Text tool in the toolbo&, the propert bar displas onl te&t-
related
commands. In the e&ample below, the propert bar displas te&t formatting, alignment, and
editing
tools.
Dockers
Doc!ers displa the same tpes of controls as a dialog bo&, such as command buttons, options,
and
list bo&es. 9nli!e most dialog bo&es, ou can !eep doc!ers open while wor!ing on a document, so
ou can readil access the commands to e&periment with di+erent e+ects.

Status bar
'he status bar displas information about selected ob%ects, such as color, )ll tpe, outline, cursor
position, and relevant commands.
Color palette
A color palette is a collection of color swatches. =ou can choose )ll and outline colors b using the
default color palette, which contains EE colors from the C2=F color model. 'he selected )ll and
outline colors appear in the color swatches on the status bar.
'he following table describes how to choose a color from the default color palette.

Choose a )ll color for a selected ob%ect Clic! a color swatch.
Choose an outline color for a selected Right-clic! a color swatch.

Choose from di+erent shades of a color Clic! and hold a color swatch to displa a

Toolbox
'he toolbo& contains tools for editing, creating, and viewing images. 5ome of the tools are visible

default, while others are grouped in *outs. 3louts open to displa a set of related tools. A small
arrow in the lower-right corner of a toolbo& button indicates a *out( for e&ample, the Shape edit
*out . Clic!ing a *out arrow opens a set of related tools. Clic!ing and dragging the grab
handles
at the end of the *out sets the *out in its e&panded form.

0sing multiple workspaces
A wor!space is a con)guration of settings that speci)es how the various command bars,
commands,
and buttons are arranged when ou open the application. =ou can alwas reset the current
wor!space to the default settings.
To reset the current workspace

Customi(ing toolbars
=ou can customi#e toolbar position and displa. 3or e&ample, ou can move or resi#e a toolbar,
and
ou can choose to hide or displa a toolbar.
'oolbars can be either doc!ed or *oating. Doc!ing a toolbar attaches it to the edge of the
application
window. 9ndoc!ing a toolbar pulls it awa from the edge of the application window, so it *oats
and
can be easil moved around.
=ou can customi#e toolbars b adding, removing, and arranging toolbar items.
When moving, doc!ing, and undoc!ing toolbars, ou use the grab area of the toolbar.

Creating custom color palettes
Custom color palettes are collections of colors that ou save. Custom color palettes are useful
when
ou fre<uentl choose the same colors, or when ou want to wor! with a set of colors that loo!

together.
When ou create a custom color palette, the color palette is emptL however, ou can edit it b
adding
the colors ou want to include, as well as changing, deleting, sorting, and renaming colors.
