Topic: Holidays, past events, pets
Skills:speaking, reading, writing, listening

Aims:-to talk about different activities when on holiday
-to relate past events
-to use correctly the past tense of regular verbs
-to use the past tense of a selection of irregular verbs
-to develop the ability of speaking English

Assumptions:My students will be able to use the Past Tense correctly for a
large number of verbs.

Anticipated problems:The class is one of mixed abilities.A lot of students have
previous knowledge of Past Tense since grade 4.However, they can sometimes
interfere wrongly in the course of the lesson, and can still make confusions or
influence the others.

Activity 1.-Warm-up, checking homework
Aims-to raise the SS s interest by means of personalization
-to check homework
Procedure:T asks SS to show their projects(postcards)/stories and present them
to the class.
T points out to the past verbs they made use of.
Interaction:T-SS, SS-T
Time:8 min.



Activity 2-Checking previous knowledge
Aims :-to identify the Past tense of a series of regular verbs
-to make up sentences with the newly identified verbs
Procedure:T groups SS in pairs then,T plays a Power Point presentation , while
verbs are running on the screen , SS guess their form and make up a
sentence.(SS compete in guessing the verbs from the images shown)
Alternative;if SS dont know the verb they can make a negative from a different
verb.
Interaction: SS-T, T-SS, SS-SS

Activity 3 :teaching Past tense of irregular verbs
Aims:to identify past irregular in a text
Procedure:T asks SS to read a text and underline the past tenses, they can
recognise., and to order the story.
T selects the verbs and writes on the blackboard, SS make up sentences.
T introduces the structure.
Interaction:SS-T, T-SS
Time:20 min

Activity 4-practising the newly acquired knowledge
Aims:to complete the correct form of the verbs
Procedure:T shows some verbs that are already put in past tense, and students
are given a handout to complete their infinitive form.Also they come to the
blackboard to complete.
T helps with the vocabulary.
T gives handouts and SS come to the blackboard to complete.

Activity 5-assigning homework
Aims : to assign homework
Procedure:talk about one of your holidays.
