1.

FORSIGHT:

As we were given the opportunity of such a project many members
were having second thoughts about it as we had a lot of college tests projects
and religious festivals such as paryushan and eid during the period of those
days however it was our forsight that it would be a great learning and
challenging opportunity to undertake a project such as this one . it was so
different form our college BAF projects and hence the trill , the idea and our
forsight to do this made us take it up.

2. NEGOTIATIONS:

As mentioned above we had several reasons not to undertake this
project however our fellow group members approached Ms. Haseena and
Ms. Reshma and informed that, it would be inconvenient for other faculties
to work with us due to our college tames. Hence it was to our mutual
advantage that all baf students would work together. It was our negotiation
and our perseverance that made her agree with us.

3. DECISION-MAKING:

the trill and excitement was clearly visible within each member of the
group ideas were flooding . people wanted to sell chocolates, stationary,
cup-cakes etc , this would all proximately give us a 100% turnover but that
was not our only target as getting customers for this is very difficult. Hence
after a lot of brainstorming and heavy discussions and analysis we decicded
to do nail art , tattoos and photo morphing.

4. RESILIENCE :

It takes a lot of effort willpower , guts and confidence to take up a
project like this. When hinderances are not small and not only personal but
also social e.g. My economics project submission was on Sunday and for
this project Friday Saturday and Sunday was working for us, I had my
paryushan I was fasting and working all day in the campus is extremely
tiring. Resilience is the word which each member had along with a huge will
to do it backed by college and family support.

As see above before you start a business or an event many skills are utilized. The
following content explains the skills required before actually doing the business or
the activity.

PLANNING:

1. CONCEPTUAL SKILLS:

We had limited resources, limited time in such a case to have the
optimum utilization of our resources was extrememly necessary.
Conceptual skills ie our ability to think in the abstract visualize
,diagnose and understand various aspects was essential. Hence by
using these skills we decided to set up a stall in college and start a
business to render the services of tattoo making nail art and photo
morphing.

2. DECISION-MAKING:

Our ability as 18/19 year old students compared to more mature
and experienced students is comparartively less . team work and our
decision making skills ie our ability to coorectly recognize and define
problems and opportunatie course of action to solve problems and
capitalize on opportunities to win this competion was extremely
important.. our 1
st
threat was Rs. 150 as capital where do we get our
resources eg. Nail paints , vameras etc from. Leasing them out was
the best option we had . hence these skills helped us to hire
professional equipment at a low cost for mutual benefit and kept our
business idea intact.

3. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Every person has a few priorities and a few commitments. Our
business would not have been able to start unless we got permission
for a stall to be set up in the college campus.our campus was mainly
being used for college festival practices and our auditiorium was
booked by a private company for some seminar of theirs in such to
get permission for the stall was difficult. We used are interpersonal
skills ie our ability to communicate with our college incharge Ms.
Dias , understand her point of few and motivate her that we would
live upto her expecatations. On doing so we did receive our
permission of the stall.

By doing the above our planning was complete

As see above before you start a business or an event many skills are utilized.
The following content explains the skills required while actually doing the business
or the activity.

1. ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS -while starting something new, planning has
to be done. But once planning is done one needs to organize the resources
and arrange these resources in such an order to achieve the set out plan.

a) PROCUREMENT OF SUPPLIES:

The activities which have to be done were decided, our organizational
skills were put to good use to resolve who has what resources and who
will be bringing the various supplies required. Everyone was divided into
three teams and each team brought the supplies for the job they were
given: nail art, tattoo making or photo-morphing.

b) ARRANGING FOR A STALL-

while the supplies organization was easily done, procuring for chairs
from Mr. Dev Singh Rathod (in charge of the caf) really tested our
negotiating skills. He only allowed for 2 chairs to be taken along with the
stall for the nine of us. It was our goodwill and niftiness that we were
able to sneak four chairs instead of only two.

c) MANAGEMENT OF CASH-

To minimize the number of people accepting the payments and giving
the change back we devised a system where only two people were in
charge of the cash. One would receive it from the customer and give the
customer the voucher, while the other ensured the all the vouchers and
cash balances tallied and were kept safely.

2. TECHNICAL SKILLS-

Once we had all the resources required we applied our technical skills
to ensure that the nail art was gorgeous, the tattoos funky or feminine
(according to the demands of the customer) and our photography accurate.
Our technical skills were the most IMPORTANT SKILL possessed by us
without it the whole business wouldnt have existed. Its these skills that
ensured our customers were satisfied with the service and products supplied
to them.

3. TIME MANAGEMENT-

Our business was doing extremely well so well that we had no time to
eat. In this scenario we developed our time management skills to take turns
and go for lunch and ensure that the stall was never under-employed and all
the three sections were always running.

4. MARKETING SKILLS-

Post-lunch the crowd had diminished a bit hence we started marketing
our services. Marketing is not an easy job. Its a billion-dollar industry.
Marketing and advertising require not only skill but also spontaneity and
creativity. The following were the approaches adopted by us to increase our
deals and trades.

a) MOUTH-TO-MOUTH PUBLICITY-

many say that mouth-to-mouth publicity is the best publicity. Hence
we did nail art of couple of our friends and encouraged them to go around
the college and influence their friends and acquaintances to try out our
stall. Also our happy customers were obliged to do us this small favor.
Many of them happily went back to their friends and showed off their
new nail art or tattoo convincing their friends also to get one done.

b) NETWORKING-

another approach taken by us was to maximize our networking skills
and convince all our friends, teachers and even acquaintances to try our
different services which were suitable to them.

c) BROADCASTING-

we took advantage of todays technology and broadcasted our
advertisements on Blackberry Messenger. We also took the help of our
friends and convinced them to also broadcast our advertisement.

d) CLASS-TO-CLASS PUBLICITY-

this method is as old as the concept of colleges and universities. We
toured class-to-class and announced as well as informed students about
our stall in the college caf. This did bring in interested customers as well
as spectators interested to see what was happening.

e) CREATIVE ADVERTISEMENTS-

constraints on the quantity of capital given to us made it impossible
for us to distribute flyers or put up chart papers all over college. We were
only able to use our technical skills and put up two beautifully decorated
charts around our stall publicizing our services.

5. INTER PERSONAL SKILLS-

for the above marketing techniques to be successful one needs the
support of inter personal skills also. Especially for networking and mouth-to-
mouth publicity. Inter personal skills rely on one persons ability to get
along with another person. As there were nine of us each had their own set
of friends and groups of people with whom they got along. This helped us as
our advertising was diversified and we were able to touch different market
segments.

6. COMMUNICATION SKILLS-
to be able to explain the other person what you mean and understand what
they mean is essential in every and any activity. Its these skills that made class-to-
class publicity successful as well as broadcasting our message effective. It would
have been redundant if we broadcasted a poorly formed or a confusing message.

7. ADAPTIVE SKILLS-

these skills help us to adapt ourselves and face new and different
challenges. Not only did we use adaptive skills but also diagnostic skills
during the course of our business. We used them in the following two
occasions:

a) ALTERING THE POSITION OF STALL- due to heavy rains the stall
was being disturbed as well as our customers were feeling
uncomfortable. Hence we decided to alter the position of the entire
stall to a rain free region.

b) RESCHEDULING DUE TO FASTS- Our business duration was such
that the Jain fasts were going on. We sat down and planned out such a
schedule where instead of everyone being on the stall the whole day
we distributed the work in such a way that everyone only had to spend
couple of hours at the stall.

Management is an ongoing activity. Hence managing the business was just
not limited to the two working days of BAF Creations. Managerial skills were also
acted upon in the Post commencement period. Some of them are as follows;

1. DIAGNOSTIC SKILLS
Diagnostic skills include the ability to determine, by analysis and
examination, the nature of a particular condition. A manager can diagnose a
problem in the organization by studying its symptoms. These skills are also useful
in favorable situations.
We realized that our photo morphing division did not have the necessary technical
requirements. The pictures clicked were not setting up according to the selected
background. This activity required Photo shop program which we did not have.
So we requested a friend to help us in photo morphing. This was very important to
us because we had to give our customers the design they preferred. After our
pictures were printed the customers were happy with results. Diagnostic skills
helped us here to recognize a problem and coming up with a solution.

2. NEGOTIATING SKILLS
Negotiating means to discuss and reach a mutually satisfactory agreement. It
helps in reaching to a conclusion where no party is at a loss. It can be a win win
situation for both.
We requested the printing person to give us the photo morphing print outs at a
reasonable. He agreed to it because we had some 30 print outs which included
pictures and our accounts.

3. DOCUMENTARY SKILLS
Documentation means preserving documents which are material to an
organization. It helps for future reference. Managers refer to documents because
they have to report to their seniors or BOD or the owners of the business.
Documentation was a crucial activity. Every document was needed in the future as
our Audit evidence. Our Auditor will refer to these documents to cross check our
activities.
We had documents like:
a. Vouchers signed by customers for services provided to them.
b. Loan agreement
c. Accounts
i. Journal
ii. Ledgers
iii. Trial balance
iv. Balance sheet
d. Rent agreements for usage of our partners equipments
e. Permissions for use of tables and chairs.
Documentation will give a view of our activities and how we managed them.
4. Liaison
Liaison means to have cooperation from people around. Managers should
have liaison skills to keep work on.
We acted on these skills when we could not mail our accounts and ppt due to some
technical problems. The person in charge of the competition excused us for this.
5. ENDURANCE
Endurance helped us till the last. We faced problems due to rains. Our hectic
college schedule did not give us enough time. But we braved all this and
continued.
Managers should have endurance to succeed. It helps to put brave front to
challenges which our recurring in a management.

Everyone is a manager in his or her life. A person has managerial skills since
birth. Everybody manages ones life totally different from the other which makes
management dynamic. People manage their professional, personal and social lives.
Management is not a one time activity. It continues till the person dies or the
organization is shut down. It is all pervasive which makes it applicable to all
spheres of life.
We students as amateur entrepreneurs also applied skills, principles, functions and
characteristics of management. Even without a professional degree in management
we realized the importance of managerial skills and we were able to put for their
applicable use. BAF Creations helped us to discover our managerial skills and to
display them. It highlighted what managerial skills an entrepreneur should have.
On the 5
th
of September we presented our accounts to the respected
auditor and our presentation to the members of the accountancy and e-cell
members as we had the maximum profits and the best presentation WE
WON..!! we were honored with certificate and a prize the trill , joy and love
we received was immense. Our joy could not be expressed but our hard
work and skills paid off
