THE POWER OF GOD

Exodus 7:14 12:33

WW ll, nam, Korea, the race to the moon, the Cold War, the Gulf Wars, the wars on Terror; the list
could go on and on in either direction from the here and now, a chronicle of what has been, what is,
and what has yet to be in the arena of deadly conflict amongst men. Invariably on display, front and
center, is arguably the utmost best and absolute worst in man and in all his means (his power). Such is
the postscript on the power of sinful man.
Immanent and transcendent, the power of the Sovereign God is. Unseen is the hand of God and its work
in creation, in the affairs of men and in man himself, may be overt or subtle, comprehensible or
mystifying, ascertainable or undeterminable, but constant, trustworthy and effectual it is. Exercised
according to the counsel of His own will and for His good pleasure, the power of God enables His eternal
plan of redemption of His elect, for the glory of His Name!
The history of the nation of Israel is (literally) an open book, and decidedly vivid in it is the omnipotence
of I AM. The exodus from Egypt of enslaved Israelites (400 yrs since the death of Joseph, then over 2
million strong) and how it came to pass is a glowing example; a demonstration of the power of God that
He Himself commanded to be retold from generation to generation (ch10 v2). For by means of each one
of the 10 supernatural plagues, and the conclusion of the terror was the deliverance of His people, I AM
showed Egypts Pharaoh why He is the Lord and there is none like Him in all the earth (ch7 v17, ch8 v22,
ch9 v14)! Individually and collectively, the plagues unmasked Egypts magicians and false gods for the
bunch of phonies that they really were. Plagues came one after another as Pharaoh broke each and
every promise he made to God to let Gods people go. This god, with his heart progressively hardened
by the one true God, became stubborn to the point of totally denying the truth. To wit:
1) Water turned to BLOOD (ch7 v14-24) the Nile, the life blood of Egypt, was struck lifeless.
2) FROGS (ch8 v1-15) the land, overrun and covered by these, turned fruitless.
3) GNATS (ch8 v16-19) as innumerable as the dust on the land, crawled on man and beast.
4) FLIES (ch8 v20-32) swarms, enough to blot out the sun from the sky, corrupted the land.
5) LIVESTOCK (ch9 v1-7) death of all in all of Egypt except those of the children of Israel.
6) BOILS (ch9 v8-12) afflicted all Egyptians and their beasts such that none could stand.
7) HAIL (ch9 v13-35) mingled with fire, rained death and destruction from the heavens.
8) LOCUSTS (ch10 v1-20) countless and so grievous, ravaged whatever stood after the hail.
9) DARKNESS (ch10 v21-29) total, complete and felt as day turns into night for the Egyptians.
10) DEATH of 1
st
-born (ch11 v1 ch12 v33) the final and telling blow: Gods people are let go.
As horrific and gruesome and dreadful these wrathful manifestations of the power of God are,
unimaginable is what He, through His power, will do in judgment of the rotten evil that plagued and held
in bondage the soul of Egypts Pharaoh; indeed of all of humanity SIN. The soul that sinneth, it shall
die He says in Ezekiel 18:20 (KJV) and in Matthew 10:28 (KJV), fear him which is able to destroy
both soul and body in hell. But because of Christ crucified - He who upholds all things by the word of His
power is also He who has the power to make us strong in faith according to His gospel, these words
thankfully ring true in power throughout eternity: Let my people go!

Have you been set free?
John 8:36 (KJV)
36
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
