One Day in Madrid: Travel Guide
Lara V's City Tips
The Madrid underground is the best option for getting around. The last service is at 1am.
Tipping is not compulsory, but it's nice to do if the service is good.
Wear comfortable shoes, as there are plenty of ramps.
Buy a 10-trip travel pass for the city center area and allow yourself to walk as much as possible. It is part of
the adventure!

Tips
Visit early in the morning to avoid the rush hour.
There are plenty of tasty options, but I would recommend the palmera glaseada.
If you want to taste something traditionally Spanish, try the torrijas.
Every great journey should start with a great breakfast. Visit this traditional spot located in Puerta del Sol to
enjoy a perfect Spanish breakfast.

Tips
Ask the chef for the dish of the season. You will not regret it!
I know that fried eggs with fried potatoes doesnt sound like a Michelin starred dish, but at Casa Lucio everything
is possible! Lucio is the creator of the most famous dish in Madrid, and celebrities all over the world have tasted his
Huevos fritos con puntilla signature dish. Try it yourself, or sample one of his other palate-pleasing traditional
Spanish dishes. You can't go wrong!

Tips
If youre a churros fan, try porra, a bigger version of this fried-dough traditional pastry.
Plan to stay: Less than 1 hour
There is nothing more Spanish than churros con chocolate - and this place is the best venue in which to enjoy it.
The chocolateria serves both Spanish chocolate (made with water) and the French option (mixed with milk). Both
are delicious, so take your pick and dont forget to ask for a dozen churros to enjoy with them!

Tips
There are plenty of places to eat around the square, but they are quite expensive. I would recommend walking through
to Toledo street to find more budget-friendly options.
An antiques market is held here every Sunday.
Plaza Mayor, or Madrid's main square, is a recommended spot to visit in any season. During summer, youll find
lots of restaurant terraces on which to enjoy a drink and some tapas, and there's a lovely Christmas fair here come
wintertime. Whenever you visit - look out for street performers!

Tips
Don't miss the opportunity to hire row boats on the lake.
There are many places around the park to hire bikes or roller blades.
Plan to stay: 1-2 hours
Located in the middle of the city, Retiro Park is the best place in which to forget about traffic noises and crowds.
Take a break from the city madness and enjoy a tranquil coffee in one of the open cafes.

Tips
Try the rosca de jamn. This is my favorite rosca!
After dinner, enjoy a drink on the roof of El Viajero, a 5-minute walk away.
Small and delicious, Taberna Almendro 13 is the best place to finish a day in Madrid. Order your food at the
counter and try to find a place to sit inside, or enjoy your dinner out on the street if the weather permits - both the
food and the atmosphere are really worth it!
