Helping Hands Healing Hearts Ministries rescues sick and dying Filipino children and gives them hope and practical help. They have a mission to save childrens lives where possible and to lead them to Christ. They believe that every child has a right to life and that poverty should not be the reason for their death. Therefore they provide the medications or operations they need and they pray for them and their families.
Helping Hands, Healing Hearts Ministries (HHM) was started in July 2001 by Ms. Claire G. Henderson when she was moved by the lack of medical support for children at the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital mission. This situation motivated her to co-found with her friends the HHM to help these marginalized children gain access to medical assistance. HHM envisioned to help promote and protect childrens right to life and protection from harm when that right is in danger due to illness, abuse or poverty. It envisioned a system where the children are able to access appropriate health care, medications, counsel and temporary shelter to meet their specific needs. A total of 243 children were housed in the Childrens recovery unit and were provided medical operations, heart operation, colostomy, hernia, craniotomy etc. were done for children at risk.
The best way to find yourself, is to lose yourself in the service of others. Helping hands Childrens Recovery unit is the outreach community chosen by Nicolo Iris Estaben and Divina Marie Villanueva, JPIA SLUs Ambassors of Good will. On September 17, 2013, at Amparo Heights, Bakakeng, Baguio City, our Ambassadors of Goodwill visited the Childrens Recovery Unit after they have finished their classes on that day. Kids of ages 1-17 years welcomed them with smile and gratitude. They showed excitement even though they are experiencing pain and undergoing medical treatments. The moment our Ambassadors of Goodwill entered the Home, the kids were eager to have fun. In line with this, our Ambassadors prepared a program that would uplift the hearts of the young ones. The mood was good. Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants School of Accountancy and Business Management Saint Louis University
Children were running, laughing, and ready to start. Those kids who have coughs, fever, and colds are in a separate room yet our ambassadors made way for them to become a part f these wonderful experience.
These children are unfortunate in one part or another of their lives because at a young age, they have already suffered emotionally and physically. Their self esteem is greatly affected that causes them to become passive. But these children, in their early age, never showed any sign of negativity, as if they were healthy, and as if they were as normal like the other kids. They were smiling, playing and having fun throughout the activity. They showed everyone how strong they can be in spite of their sicknesses.
At five thirty in the afternoon, the program started. The prayer was lead by Divina Marie. Everybody bowed down their heads and closed their eyes. At that moment, we saw how the kids eagerly ask for Gods miracle and mercy to heal whatever suffering and pain theyre going through. After the prayer, Nicolo lead a song and played a guitar. Everybody sang Christian songs and Hawak Kamay at the top of their lungs.
After singing, the Ambassadors roamed around and had a conversation with all the kids about how theyre feeling, about their dreams in life, and more. The kids shared everything at their hearts content. Deaf-mute, leukaemia patients, special children, and even those with hydrocephalus and with heart ailments were able to express what they are feeling. Our Ambassadors believe that theres only one word that give strength and hope to the children. And that is the Word of God. So Nicolo and Divina shared proverbs and stories that the children then can relate into. At 6:30 pm, the Ambassadors surprised the children by providing the nutritious and delicious dinner. They served the food and they helped the nurses assist the children to eat. Everybody was happy. Our Ambassadors also went on the separate room where kids with Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants School of Accountancy and Business Management Saint Louis University
contagious diseases were staying. They sit together with the kids while the kids were happily eating and they listened to whatever the kids are going to share. And of course, the program wouldnt be complete without our Ambassadors performing an intermission number for them. At 7pm in the evening, everybody participated in the Devotion Time where everybody sang praises to the Lord coupled with simple dance moves. We raise or voice and lift everything to the Lord our sacrifices, failures, success, pain, and happiness ALL FOR THE GLORY OF GOD. The program ended at 7:30pm. And as the kids were preparing to go to sleep, our Ambassadors helped the nurses to assist the children in the bathroom to clean their body and to brush their teeth. We only did a simple program, but on the childrens part, it is as if we did them a big favor. It is so nice to hear them saying, Thank you, Ate and Thank you, Kuya. It is also heartwarming to hear them say, Magpapagaling po kami. Salamat po. We dont need to be rich to help people. With simple ways we can already make a difference. We might not know, but maybe a smile can brighten someones day. Maybe a hug can already comfort someone having a huge problem. Maybe a little kindness can change someones life. It is now time to leave. But were not really leaving them because they are already in our hearts. This day is a gift. OUR AMBASSADORS ARE A BLESSING TO OTHER PEOPLE and they will continue to help and inspire not only as Ambassadors of goodwill but persons with kind hearts committed to serve the community and to please the Lord.
