FOREWORD
In its eIIorts to serve people, the UPAGovernment has, during the last Iour years,
taken several initiatives. Flagship programmes like the National Rural
Employment Guarantee Scheme, National Rural Health Mission, Bharat Nirman
and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission were launched to bridge
the employment, health and inIrastructure divides. These have been
complemented by speciIic policies Ior inclusion oI SCs, STs, minorities and
women. The sustained eIIorts to usher in an 'inclusive' India have already yielded
substantial impact. The Right to InIormation Act, enacted in 2005, has
signiIicantly contributed towards greater transparency and accountability in
public liIe.
The Ministry oI InIormation & Broadcasting has been undertaking campaigns
across the length & breadth oI the country to disseminate inIormation to all stake
holders, particularly the intended beneIiciaries, with a viewto securing their Iull
and active participation inthe programmes.
