A DIGEST OF SIGNIFICANT WORLD NEWS FROM THE PHILADELPHIA TRUMPET STAFF FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 7-13, 2011

From here on it will be
Rome and Berlin politically
that will work together to
overhaul the EU and pull
it into its nal shape of 10
dominant nations.
People in the U.S.
are horried about
what has happened.
There is butone
possibilityof union in
Europeand that is
through the Vatican.
They want to get us
because they think were
racist. Eventually, theres
going to be a civil war
in this country.
The national debt, which
the U.S. Treasury has
accounted at about
$14 trillion, is just the
tip of the iceberg.
W
e are an international
disgrace, said one school-
teacher whos been working
in London for over a decade. Not that
long ago, London was the fnancial hub
of Europe, and the British Empire
upon which the sun never setwas the
envy of the world. Today, Britain is an
embarrassing spectacle for all the world
to seea graphic example of how fast a
society descends into barbarism when it
refuses to uphold the rule of law.
This week, the world watched as Britains biggest cities
were smashed, burned and looted by lawless gangs of juve-
nile delinquents. It was the worst rioting the island nation
had seen in more than a generation. It all began innocently
enough as a small protest against a police shooting, but
it quickly turned into an every-man-for-himself rampage
through the streets of Londonand then Birmingham,
Manchester, Liverpool, and on it went.
The police were totally unprepared for the blowup and
shamefully unwilling to confront the thuggery head on
with a show of force. They were simply overwhelmed by the
evil, and British cities were trashed as a result.
What we are seeing, Melanie Philips wrote on Mon-
day, in the sluggish and unprepared reaction of the
police and political class to these events, compounded
by their serial failure to grasp from previous such dis-
turbances just what is going on here, is a catastrophic
combination of professional inertia and incompetence,
serial eyes off the ball, paralyzing political correctness,
an apparent reluctance to identify, name and deal with
subversive activity, a capitals police force in systemic
disarray, a criminal justice system that has become an
insulting joke, a refusal from the top to draw clear lines
in the sand and to exercise moral and political leadership,
a pandering instead to mob rule .
Gone are the days of righteous leadership stepping
forward to forcefully subdue such a spirit of rebellion and
lawlessness. In these latter days, a national crisis like what
Britain experienced this week only exposes how patheti-
cally weak modern Israels leaders really are.
You know its bad when the most infuential voicesin-
stead of immediately condemning mob violencerush
to defend riotous looting as being a natural response to
government cutbacksas if its completely understandable
for poor, unemployed youths to smash up shops in order to
steal iPod accessories and tennis shoes.
As the schoolteacher quoted above wrote at the Tele-
graph blog, [T]he main reason you are not attacked on the
street, shops are not constantly looted and burnt down, and
we all dont take things that dont belong to us is because
someone, when we were little, taught us the difference
between right and wrong.
It all gets back to education. And this, of course, begins
at home, with the traditional family. But when the family
breaks down, as is prophesied in Isaiah 3, society unravels.
As Herbert W. Armstrong wrote in The Missing Dimension
in Sex, Since it is a basic truism that a solid family struc-
ture is the foundational bulwark of any stable and perma-
nent society, this fact means only one thingcivilization as
we know it is on the way downand out .
When we live in divisive, chaotic environments at home,
its only natural for that chaos to spill into the streets.
Add the racial component to our family breakdown and
it makes for a deadly mixture thats just waiting to explode
at a city near you, like it did in London.
I am so angry, so ashamed, so utterly dismayed, writes
the London schoolteacher. The vast majority of these
criminals are black. No one will say it. I hang my head in
shame, both as a black person and as a teacher. At least
this womana black womanhas the courage to say some-
thing. No one else willcertainly no one among the leading
voices in the white community.
God defnitely has something to say about it. In Isaiah 1:5,
speaking primarily about the leaders of America, Britain
and Judah, God says the whole head is sick, and the whole
heart faint. Those responsible for leading our peoplesmost
of them whitesimply do not have the heart or strength to
confront evil, even when it threatens to destroy our cities.
Therefore, the whole body is sickfrom head to toe
(verse 6). And its leading to our cities being burned with
fre by strangers, as it says in verse 7meaning non-Isra-
elites, or Gentiles.
Now we dont take sides with one race over another
whether its with weak-kneed white leaders who are afraid
to uphold the rule of law or rebellious black youths intent
on bringing down the government.
God says our many problems and evils transcend race.
The problem is with mans rebellious nature (Jeremi-
ah 17:9).

nisraelisprotestoverlivingcosts:For more than three weeks,
waves of social unrest have swept Israel on a level not seen before,
Haaretz reports. According to the liberal daily, Israel is in the midst of
what is increasingly shaping up to be an Israeli revolution. As Israelis
protest over the cost of housing and poor economic conditions, some
analysts are asking whether Israel is facing its own Arab Spring. Hun-
dreds of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets of Tel Aviv and
other cities each of the past three weekends to demand social justice,
and tent cities have sprung up across the country. What started out as
demands for cheaper housing has developed into demands for sweeping
changes to Israels economy and society such as a new taxation system,
free education and privatization of state-owned companies. Despite
strong economic growth and low unemployment, Israelis are discon-
tented with the countrys high cost of living, high poverty rate and high
income inequality. Some commentators in Israel believe the motive for
the protests, however, is more political than economic, an effort by the
Israeli left to take advantage of popular discontent. Whatever the factors
stirring up the social unrest, any resultant political turmoil will only
make Israel more inwardly focused and isolationist at a time when it is
facing its greatest outside threatsan increasingly powerful Iran, the
prospect of Islamists taking over Arab allies and the threat of a third
intifadanot to mention the unseen threat from its seeming ally Europe.
nPalestiniansplanmassiverallies:Meanwhile, the Associated
Press reported Wednesday that the Palestinian Authority (PA) is plan-
ning calm rallies for next month to coincide with its bid at the United
Nations for recognition as an independent state. Last month, PA Presi-
dent Mahmoud Abbas called for Palestinians to take to the streets in
massive rallies in support of the bid. According to the AP, demonstrations
are to be carried out around the world as well as in the Palestinian terri-
tories. The call for popular resistance raises the specter of a new round
of violence against the Jewish state. Israeli offcials disagree over what
might happen in September, the AP article says. One study said the ral-
lies will likely be peaceful, but Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has
predicted unprecedented violence. Even the study forecasting peaceful
demos recommended calling up Israeli Army reservistsjust in case.
nisraeliintelligence:egyptislosingcontroloverthesinai:
One hundred masked gunmen attacked a police station in Egypts Sinai
Peninsula on July 29, killing a policeman, a soldier and three civil-
ians before going on to attack part of the cooling system of the pipeline
carrying natural gas to Israel. Islamists have attacked the pipeline fve
times in the last six months. The head of Israels military intelligence
recently observed that Egypts security forces are losing control over
the Sinai region. The number of rockets in the Gaza Strip has doubled
from 5,000 to 10,000 since the end of 2010. Smugglers this year have
already taken in three times more standard explosives than they did in
all of 2010. The attacks on the gas pipeline are part of a growing Egyp-
tian hostility to Israel in general. As Courcys Intelligence Brief points
out, this puts Israel in a catch-22 situation. Former President Hosni
Mubarak controlled the Sinai through his police. Since his downfall,
the Bedouins have thrown the police out, and chaos reigns. To try to
stop these Islamist attacks, Israel could relax the Camp David accords
that require the Sinai to be demilitarized and allow Egyptian troops in
to restore order. But with Egypt on the brink of becoming an Islamic
state, such soldiers could quickly become merely a more disciplined
version of the Islamists.

turkish prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan
said last week that his countrys patience with
Syria has run out, and that the events taking
place in Syria constituted an internal matter
to Turkey.
The Gulf Cooperation Council, a coalition
of six Arab, oil-rich, Gulf states dominated by
Saudi Arabia, then issued a statement asking
for an end to the bloodshed in Syria. On Sunday,
Saudi Arabias King Abdullah, in the frst such
public speech, asked Syrian President Bashar
al-Assad to end the military campaign against
protesters and to enact sweeping reforms.
It is very likely that these various statements
were coordinated, and that they form part of a
process aimed at building a coalition against
Syrias government. The next step would likely
be for other Muslim and Arab states, prompted
by Turkey and Saudi Arabia, to become more
vocal in their criticism of President al-Assad.
Saudi Arabia, through its connections to in-
surgents and Sunni tribes in Iraq and to Sunni
politicians in Lebanon, will likely provide ad-
ditional fnancing for weapons smuggling op-
erations into Syria. Turkey is the only country
with the military capability, national security
interests and favorable geographic location that
can intervene in Syria.
Turkey is increasingly likely to receive inter-
national support, from nato and the Arab League
and possibly from the UN Security Council, to
send troops into northern Syria. Further, the
statements by the gcc and Saudi Arabia indicate
increased Arab support for Syrias Sunni major-
ity, which will likely lead to increased protests
against the Baath ruling party.
The risk of protests spreading to central Da-
mascus and to Aleppo has therefore increased.
Protests in Aleppo or in the Druse-dominated
Suwayda province would increase the strain
on the already overstretched Syrian Army and
regime protection units, the Presidential Guard
and the 4th Division, and making defections
more likely and increasing the risk of an inter-
nal coup against President al-Assad.

As we see Saudi Arabia and the other GCC
member states seek to incorporate more
allies to protect themselves from Iran, also
watch for them to begin reaching out to
Germany and the Europeans for protection.
Additionally, watch for a change in Syrian
politics. Bible prophecy indicates that at the
time of the Daniel 11 European invasion, Syria
and Lebanon will not be allied with Iran.

tional oil cartel. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad handpicked
Qasemi for the position, and the Iranian Parliament made the decision
offcial with an overwhelming 216 votes from the 264 deputies present.
The Guardian said Irans national media have interpreted the land-
slide vote as a reaction by Irans parliament to international sanctions
against the country, especially those which have targeted the Revolu-
tionary Guards and the countrys nuclear program. With Qasemi in a
position of power, we can expect already high gas prices to get higher,
and for Irans defance toward the West to grow.

ecret exploratory peace talks between the United States and
the Taliban leadership have broken down after details of the
negotiations were leaked, Western diplomats have told the Daily
Telegraph. The breakdown in the talks at such an early stage has led
to recriminations and claims that the details of the meetings and the
identity of the Talibans chief negotiator were deliberately leaked by
paranoid Afghan government fgures.
Absolute confdentiality had been a key condition for the meetings
which were held in Germany and Qatar earlier this year between Tayeb
Agha, Taliban leader Mullah Omars former private secretary, and
senior offcials from the U.S. State Department and Central Intelligence
Agency. The talks were a big deal, the real thing. I hope people will
learn the lesson on the importance of confdentiality in the early stages.
People in the U.S. are horrifed about what has happened, said one
source close to the talks.
In terms of progress towards negotiations which might end the war,
it has proved a case of one step forward and two steps back, he added.

stick to their budgets and impose sanctions should they stray, German
Economic Minister Philipp Rsler said August 9. The council would be
independently run and would determine how aid money is spent. A sta-
bility council wouldnt mean youre not getting any money, but rather
well apportion it for you, said Rsler. Nations would face competitive-
ness tests to measure how well they are managing their budget. If you
fail them, there should be consequences, Rsler said. He also said that
Europe should pass a debt brake law, similar to the one Germany has.
In Germany, this law forbids the government from borrowing more than
0.35 of gross domestic product. Rsler said he would present this pro-
posal at the next EU fnance ministers meeting. However, a government
offcial told the Financial Times Deutschland: This is an opinion of the
ministry and not a government position. Rslers statements come as
members of German Chancellor Angela Merkels own coalition party are

Weaker eurozone members face the prospect
of being left with no domestic banks in future
as market resistance to funding lenders in
peripheral countries grows. Equity analysts
at Standard & Poors, the credit rating agency,
said that the problem with the European
banking system is that it is not aligned to the
single currency area and that larger banks
with operations across the region were likely to
replace smaller single country-focused lenders.
We envisage that banks operating on a
more EU-wide basis, alongside an ecb with
appropriate powers, would be an important
part of a sustainable euro project, said Tony
Silverman, a fnancial analyst at S&P. This
may mean peripheral countries should not
necessarily expect to have their own domestic
banks, he added.
Mr. Silverman points out that about
50 percent of eurozone deposits lent through
the European Central Bank and the interbank
market are to banks that have loans in excess
of their deposits, adding there is a conspicu-
ous absence of banks that are net lenders to
the market.
Banks in countries such as Greece, Portu-
gal and Ireland have become dependent on
ecb funds to remain in business and loans
originally seen as short-term have become an
integral part of their funding. The eurozone
crisis has put a focus on these issues and
there are now doubts as to whether many of
these lenders remain viable as independent
entities in the longer term.
Ireland is undertaking a drastic reform
of its banks and is in the process of merging

an emergency meeting held August 10, Sarkozy told his ministers they
have one week to draft the new measures. The schedule for the an-
nouncement of new measures is frantic, reported the EU Observer.
nslovakiathreatensthenewbailout:One of the members of
Slovakias ruling coalition promised to derail Europes new bailout agree-
ment, decided upon on July 21. Parliamentary speaker and head of the
Freedom and Solidarity party Richard Sulik said on August 8: We will
do everything we can in order for the parliament not to approve it. For
the new agreement to go into effect it must be ratifed by all eurozone
members. Without Suliks support, Slovakias main political party would
require the help of the opposition party, which has been fercely critical of
the government. This type of holdup to the bailout deal shows that for the
eurozone to stave off disaster and make decisions quickly, more national
power needs to be taken away from the member states. Watch for euro-

apostolic nuncio in Spain predicts that the event, and the arrival
of Pope Benedict xvi, will bring a new wind into a society that
has been sapped by secularism.
Archbishop Renzo Fratini told Vatican Radio that many young
people feel disillusioned in todays Spain, and many are looking for
hope. The popes visit, he said, could help encourage a spiritual rebirth
of the nation.
The apostolic nuncio saw special importance in the fact that Pope

That choice, he said, underlines the fact that the Christian life really
starts from an inner renewal, from a conversion: the return to God.
The essential message of

Crisis
it is the most important
story of the moment. The f-
nancial crisis in Europe has
driven every nation on the
Continent to its knees before
Germany, and Berlin is ex-
ploiting the crisis to tangibly
and forcefully reshape the European Union.
As Germany continues to exploit the fnan-
cial crisis to further its own ambitions, it is
important to consider: What is the next chap-
ter in the emergence of this German-designed
United States of Europe? Once again, we turn
to the Bible-based, profoundly accurate fore-
casting of Herbert Armstrong for the answer.
In August 1978, Mr. Armstrong wrote:
Europeans want their own united military
power! They have made a real effort toward
union in the Common Market. But they
well know there is but one possibility of union
in Europeand that is through the vatican
(emphasis his).
Two years later, he warned that world
conditions may force European nations
to unite, bringing to pass the revived Holy
Roman Empire . [European nations]
have Wanted to unite politically, with a com-
mon currency and common military force,
for some timebut have been unable. it can
be accomplished only through the vatican
(Worldwide News, June 1980).
In 1979, Mr. Armstrong described a
scenario that is remarkably relevant in 2011.
The nations of Europe have been striving
to become reunited. They desire a common
currency, a single combined military force, a
single united government. They have made a
start in the Common Market. They are now
working toward a common currency. Yet, on a
purely political basis, they have been totally
UNABLE to unite (Plain Truth, January
1979). In spite of these conficting political in-
terests, Mr. Armstrong explained, European
countries will fnd a way to unite. How?
in only one Way can this resurrected Holy
Roman Empire be brought to fruitionby
the good offces of the Vatican, uniting
church and state once again, with the Vati-
can astride and ruling.
This is the next chapter in Europes emer-
gence as a German-led superstate: The axis
between the Vatican and Europe, particularly
Germany, will become much stronger and
extremely powerful. In the months ahead, ex-
pect the Vatican to begin to take center stage
in Europe, and for a church-state relationship
to begin to materialize.

Plain Truth, October 1961
Under the headline, Mario Draghi: New ECB Chief Dictates Ber-
lusconis Emergency Plan, the German daily Handelsblatt reports:
Whatever Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi does to calm the markets,
Draghi has dictated to him (August 8; translation ours).
As theTrumpet.com had predicted in the article The Vatican,
Germany and Global Regulation (April 13, 2009), Mario Draghi will
bring a new offensive approach to banking regulation in tandem with
Germany. He is the man for the moment who will become a powerful
voice in steering the European Union through its next phase, that of a
total restructuring of its economy, and hes started with his own home
country: Along with Trichet last Thursday, he wrote a letter to Italian
Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. The contents were strictly confden-
tial. In Rome the rumor spread that the ecbs willingness to buy Italian
government bonds imposed certain conditions on the Italian govern-
ment. Milans Corriere della Sera today, citing the secrecy of the secret
letter, confrmed the rumors of recent days.
Trichet and Draghi, according to Corriere quasi, have written a gov-
ernment program specifying in detail what the government must do: the
actions, timetable and the legislative decisions that must be addressed.
On Friday, a humbled Prime Minister Berlusconi issued a press
statement confrming compliance with the ecb demands. EU elites
have now set a precedent. They have proven that they can freely dictate
government policy to even the most powerful and infuential of EU
member nations!
Draghis dictating government policy to his own prime minister
has clearly demonstrated the power that this man is prepared, with
Germanys backing, to wield. This has taken EU elites prior diktats to
Ireland, Portugal and Greece to a far higher level. Handelsblatt clearly
places the crucial role that Draghi is already playing in the restructur-
ing of Europe in its true perspective, stating that Draghi in these days
of crisis plays a key role between Rome and Frankfurt (op. cit.).
Well, wed better get used to this. From here on it will be Rome and
Frankfurt fnancially and economically, and Rome and Berlin politi-
cally that will work together to overhaul the European Union and pull it
into its fnal shape of 10 dominant nations, fully compliant with the will
of Rome and Berlin (Revelation 13 and 17).

regardless of the ram-
pant volatility on global
stock markets there is one
clear winner in this whole
economic bloodletting:
Germany!
Following S&Ps down-
grade of Americas credit
rating late Friday, the German newspaper
Sueddeutsche, under the subhead, Germany
as a profteer?, observed (August 6; transla-
tion ours and emphasis added throughout):
It so happens that comparatively solid bor-
rowers such as Germany stand to beneft
from the downgrading of the U.S. credit
rating. During the political tug-of-war that
resulted in the raising of the U.S. debt limit,
German government bonds in international
fnancial markets were in greater demand
than ever. Because the uncertainty resulting
from political bickering in the U.S. became
too great for lenders, they turned to other
borrowers (in this case, Germany). After the
downgrading of the U.S. credit rating, this
effect will be inevitably strengthened.
Some sharp observers are waking up to
just how manipulative Germany has been in
this whole global economic crisisto its own
signifcant advantage!
Under the headline Germanys Oppor-
tunity Takes Shape With Eurozone Cri-
sis, Stratfor wrote thisusing words that
hearken right back to Herbert Armstrongs
far-sighted prophecies of this very outcome:
Germany defnitively decided that it will al-
low its wealth to underwrite the [European]
union, but only in exchange for political
control over how its wealth is used. With
these changes, the Germans have staked
their claim to European leadership (Au-
gust 5).
As Stratfor further mused, Germany
reaps some beneft from the continuation
of the crisis. So long as bond markets are
pressuring EU states, those states are forced
to come to Germany to humbly ask for as-
sistance. This assistance comes with a price
that the Germans are now able to name.
Germany will now play with the global
crisis for as long as it needs to serve its
political vision. As Straftor mused: So long
as the crisis does not spiral out of control,
Germany actually needs the market pres-
sure to steadily rewire the European archi-
tecture more to its liking. Berlin actually has
a vested interest in keeping the crisisand
several EU stateson an aggressive simmer

of Chinas top credit rating agencies said the U.S. dollars status as the
worlds reserve currency is set to sharply decline as policymakers all
over the world examine the implications of S&Ps decision to remove
the U.S.s aaa rating. In an e-mail sent to cnbc on Saturday, Guan Jian-
zhong, chairman of Dagong Global Credit Rating, said the greenback is
being gradually discarded by the world and that the process will be
irreversible. Washington should get a clear understanding that the
continuous decline of the debt service capability will inevitably result in
the outbreak of a sovereign debt crisis, he wrote. Dagong made inter-
national headlines last week when it became the frst rating agency to
reduce the U.S.s credit score following the failure of offcials in Wash-
ington to come to a timely decision regarding Americas mushrooming
debt crisis. Guans observation, made just hours before S&Ps historic
downgrade of the largest economy on the globe, now seems remark-
ably prophetic. Guan also called for international supervision over
the issue of U.S. dollars and the implementation of a new, stable and
secured global reserve currency. He said that since China is the U.S.s
largest creditor, Beijing has every right to demand the United States
to address its structural debt problems and ensure the safety of Chinas
dollar assets. As Chinas military might expands, watch for its criticism
of the U.S.s fscal negligence to proportionately intensify.

pane of broken glass. Eltham High Street
looks exactly as it always has. In the Old
Post Offce pub, Danny Rand, one of the
people out on the streets this week, watched
David Cameron on television yesterday,
promising tougher police powers and stiffer
sentences. He cant deliver, [Rand said.]
Whats changed now is that everyone
knows the police are vulnerable. Thats why
Eltham needs to stand up for itself.
But was it the drinkers in the Old Post
Offce who saved Eltham? Londons dis-
tricts have been quiet since Monday night,
vigilantes or not. And you dont have
to look far here to fnd something quite
disturbing.
A drinker in the Bakers Draft, Anita
Payne, starts with a perfectly fair point.
When you see Sikhs with swords defend-
ing their places, everyone praises them,
she says. Nothing is said, even though
they have weapons. But when you get
white areas like this defending the streets,
even without weapons, were vigilantes
and we get chased by the police.
But the problem is that this particular
version of David Camerons Big Society
has become contaminated by racism. Bill,
a dustman and another participant in the
defense of Eltham, says: Last night they
were all in the churchyard, the
blacks. We chased them down that way.
Police also had to step in to protect
black youths on a bus who made provoca-
tive gestures. Its become a grudge match
between the ethnic areas and us, said Mr.
Rand. They want to get us because they
think were racist. Eventually, theres going
to be a civil war in this country.
Ken Rajah, the Asian owner of a conve-
nience store was happy with the defend-
ersto begin with. There were not many
police. I did agree with [the vigilantes] on
the frst day, he said. But not the way they
behaved yesterday. They had a go with the
police, so the police had two jobs. I felt a
bit scared, so I thoughtbetter to close.

The worst race riot in Wisconsin state history occurred on August 4,
during the opening night of the Wisconsin State Fair. As darkness
fell over the fairgrounds, hundreds of black youths swarmed out into
the parking lot, seeking out Caucasian fairgoers. According to news
reports, they rampaged through the district, smashing car windows,
throwing rocks and beating passersby with whatever blunt instruments
were available. Twenty-four people were arrested. We can expect race
relations to deteriorate and crime to further increase as the economy
worsens.

curfews and requiring chaperones for teens, after several fash
mob attacks allegedly involving black youths.
State police are roaming the Wisconsin State Fair in Milwaukee,
looking for teenage troublemakers. Philadelphia is stepping up enforce-
ment of a curfew for teens in the Center City business district. Chicago
police have beefed up patrols along the citys Miracle Mile district
in response to recent teenage fash robs, some which police say were
orchestrated via social media.
What connects the three city crackdowns are teen-perpetrated
crimes that are part opportunistic, part thrill-seeking, and, some resi-
dents fear, part racially motivated: dozens of black teenagers collective-
ly targeting, and attacking, white people they dont even know.
On Monday, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter said he would add
street patrols and start enforcing a 9 p.m. weekend curfew for 13- to
18-year-olds for the Center City arts and shopping area. He took the
step after a series of incidents over the past two years, including two in
the past two weeks, in which black teens beat up on their victims, who
were primarily white. In a message Monday to the mob suspects, Mayor
Nutter, Philadelphias third black mayor, said, You have damaged your
own race.
On Friday, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) ordered extra state
troopers to the fair in Milwaukee after a group of witnesses reported
that dozens, perhaps hundreds, of black teenagers began fghting with
one another Thursday night on the midway, then began punching and
kicking white people outside the fairgrounds, including pulling them
out of cars and off motorcycles. Teenagers at the fair, which closes Au-
gust 14, now must be accompanied by adults at night.

the riots in Britain left some Americans shak-
en. I think there was a ping on the national
radar. We saw something over there that in
smaller ways were starting to see over here.
It hasnt come together in a confagration, but
it is out there, and I think its growing. And as
in Britain, it doesnt have anything to do with
political grievances per se.
Philadelphia right now is under curfew
because of fash mobs. Young people send out
the word on social media, and suddenly dozens
or hundreds of them hit a targeted store, steal
everything on the shelves, and run, knowing
no one will stop them or catch them. Its hap-
pened in other cities, too. Sometimes the mobs
beat people up on the street and take their
money. There are the beat-downs in McDon-
alds, where the young lose all control and the
old fear to intervene. There were the fghts and
attacks last weekend at the Wisconsin State
Fair. Youve seen the YouTubes of fghts on the
subways. You often see links to these stories on
Drudge: He headlines them Les Miserables.
Some of these young people come from
brokenness, shallowness and terror, and are
bringing those things into the world with them.
Here are some statistics of what someone last
week called a new lost generation. In 2009, the
last year for which census data are available,
there were 74 million children under 18. Of
that number, 20 million live in single-parent
families, often with only an overwhelmed
mother or a beleaguered grandmother. Over
700,000 children under 18 have been the sub-
ject of reports of abuse. More than a quarter
million are foster children.
These numbers suggest the makingor the
presenceof a crisis.
The normal, old response to an emerging
problem such as this has been: The govern-
ment has to do something. But governments
are tapped out Where does that leave us? In
a hard place, knowing in our guts that a lot of
troubled kids are coming up, and not know-
ing what to do about it. [These children are]
terrifedthey have nothing solid in the world,
which is a pretty scary place. So they never
feel safe. As they grow, their fear becomes
rage. Further on, the rage can be expressed in
violence. This is especially true of boys, but its
increasingly true of girls.
Whats needed cant be provided by govern-
ment. When the riot begins or the fash mob
arrives, the best the government can do is
control the streets, enforce the law, maintain
the peace.
After that, what? Britain is about to face
that question. Well likely have to face it, too.

until midnight. Nobody under 18 can be downtown on Fridays and
Saturdays after 9 p.m.
First-time offenders will be taken to a police station and fned $300,
while repeat offenders could face tickets as high as $500, according to
the bbc. Under the new policy, parents can be held responsible for any
crimes committed by minors after curfew.
The mobs, described as consisting only of young black men, orga-
nize themselves through social media, and commit attacks so large
and spontaneous as to make traditional law enforcement methods
impossible.
Flash mobs have been responsible for several instances of violence
around the country recently, most prominently at the Wisconsin State
Fair this past weekend. The most recent Philadelphia incident featured
an unprovoked attack by 40 black youthone as young as 11on two
whites in the downtown historic district. Today, we are issuing an
enforcement response and a community response to these terrible acts,
Mayor Michael Nutter said.

deliver something to turmoil-wracked markets; he promised to
keep the Fed funds rate close to zero until mid-2013, the frst
time, as far as I am aware, that the Fed has ever pledged to hold rates
for such a long, and specifc, length of time.
To commit to hold rates at virtually zero for nearly two years is
unprecedented, and a mark of just how concerned policymakers have
become at the economys inability to lift itself out of its funk.
What committing to two years of zero interest rate policy will cer-
tainly do is further weaken the dollar. The Chinese, with infation
already at 6.5 percent, will be spitting tacks.
This was not what we hoped for.

not since the Second World War have
so many buildings been ablaze in so
many cities across England. As the
lawlessness spreads like a virus
there is a sense of apocalypse; of the
breakdown of society; of the collapse
of civilization.
It is the preeminent and primary
function of government to protect its
citizens, maintain law and order, and
sustain the peace and security of the
realm. It is time for Her Majestys
government to act: Truncheons and
riot shields arent quite cutting it.
These riots are now costing lives. It
is time to move to water cannon and
plastic bullets, and to deploy the
army (if any remaining regiments
are available). No democratically
elected government wants to use the
military against its own citizens, but
the police are clearly overwhelmed
and appear to be making arrests only
when it is safe to do so, rather than
intervening to prevent the criminal-
ity, protect property, and save lives.
It is quite moving to read of Sikhs
in Southall guarding their gurdwara,
and of those three Muslims in Bir-
mingham who died trying to protect
their property and community. It is
reported that some of those involved
in the violence are as young as 10
or 11, and that it is principally being
perpetrated by those in their late
teens-early 20s. This is the price we
pay for moral relativism. Parents and
teachers can no longer instruct their
children in the difference between
right and wrong, and so there is no
distinguishing between good and
evil. If it feels right and good, do it:
The moral course of action is what
the individual determines. The
truth is what you make it, for there
is no universal view of morality; no
absolute standard by which all may
be judged. And so we must tolerate
the beliefs and actions of others even
when they impinge upon the rights
and liberties of others.
Our politicians have spent de-
cades dismantling the foundations
of our moral order; fracturing and
fragmenting the culture that made
England cohesive and the United
Kingdom coherent. They have cre-
ated a culture of rootless individual-
ism, for which we are now paying the
price.

hen standard & Poors reduced the nations credit rating from
aaa to AA-plus, the United States suffered the frst downgrade
to its credit rating ever. S&P took this action despite the plan
Congress passed this past week to raise the debt limit.
The downgrade, S&P said, refects our opinion that the fscal con-
solidation plan that Congress and the administration recently agreed
to falls short of what, in our view, would be necessary to stabilize the
governments medium-term debt dynamics.
Its those medium- and long-term debt problems that also worry
economics professor Laurence J. Kotlikoff . He says the national debt,
which the U.S. Treasury has accounted at about $14 trillion, is just the
tip of the iceberg. We have all these unoffcial debts that are massive
compared to the offcial debt . Were focused just on the offcial debt,
so were trying to balance the wrong books.
Kotlikoff explains that Americas unoffcial payment obligations
like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid beneftsjack up the debt
fgure substantially. If you add up all the promises that have been
made for spending obligations, including defense expenditures, and you
subtract all the taxes that we expect to collect, the difference is $211
trillion. Thats the fscal gap, he says. Thats our true indebtedness.
Weve got 78 million baby boomers who are poised to collect, in
about 15 to 20 years, about $40,000 per person. Multiply 78 million by
$40,000youre talking about more than $3 trillion a year just to give
to a portion of the population, he says.
To eliminate the fscal gap, Kotlikoff says, the U.S. would have to
either immediately and permanently raise taxes by about two thirds,
or immediately and permanently cut every dollar of spending by 40
percent forever.

A
crisis reveals. It challenges leaders, and exposes whether or not
they have the right stuff. As we face a breakdown of social norms
in the UK and a potential meltdown of the global fnancial system,
what can we tell about our current generation of political leaders?
The most obvious answer is this: these crises have exposed a shock-
ing absence of meaningful leadership. Put simply, our political lead-
ers, whether of Left or Right, just dont seem up to the job. Were the
riots really motivated simply by criminality, as Cameron claimed, or by
a failure of parenting, as Ed Miliband thought? Was that the best the
prime minister and the leader of the opposition could do?
Platitudes are no substitute for analysis any more than condemna-
tion is for a sense of moral purpose. This, I think, is the nub of it: we
have a politics which has replaced ideology with pragmatism, and as a
result is unable to interpret events, let alone shape them. All we get is
commentary.
Contrast this with the last century. Churchill redeemed himself, and
saved the world, during the Second World War. Margaret Thatcher

there is absolutely no risk
that America will lose its aaa
rating, said Americas trea-
sury secretary on April 19.
On Friday, August 5, for the
frst time in United States
history, Americas sovereign
credit rating was downgrad-
ed from aaa to aa+ by Standard & Poors.
Consequently, the credibility of the U.S.
treasury secretary, along with virtually every-
one in Washington, was downgraded too. And
for good reason.
Americas problem is simple to understand:
it collects over $2.1 trillion in taxesbut it
spends $3.7 trillion!
But politicians still are not taking Americas
spending problem seriously. For 2012, the new
budget compromise calls to cut a total ofwait
for it$21 billion. We are planning to go fur-
ther into debt by $1.6 trillion next year! In 2013,
politicians will trim $42 billionbut we will go
another $1.5 trillion into debt that year.
On Monday the president said: Weve
always been and always will be a aaa country.
He is sadly wrong.
Unless Washington admitsin both words
and actionthat it has a problem, nothing will
get fxed.
Tuesday last week it was announced that U.S.
federal debt had reached 100 percent of gdp for
the frst time since the World War ii era. Crisis
approaches.
Already, fnancial experts are recommending
other drugs to prop up the budget when the day
comes that America cannot borrow money to
pay all its bills.
Former Federal Reserve Bank chairman
Alan Greenspan said on Monday that he dis-
agreed with the downgrade. Not because he
thought Americas economy was doing well, or
that politicians would make the right choices
but because the United States can pay any debt
because we can always print money to do that.
Yes, America can print up money, devalue
the dollar, and cheat creditorsbut what Mr.
Greenspan did not say was that the money
printing drug risks irrevocably crashing the
whole economyZimbabwe style.
When S&P downgraded America, the U.S.
joined the AA club. But what the country re-
ally needs is an intervention from the Arrears
Anonymous clubthough, to tell the truth,
America is actually even beyond that. Its eco-
nomic organs are failing, it cant think straight,
and its historic response to problems is to look
for ever stronger stimulants to temporarily
make the pain go away.

ROBERT MORLEY | Columnist
But God also says our major cities will soon explode with race riots
and violence, just like what happened in Londononly far worse
which is why we must warn you about whats coming. In Ezekiel 5:1-2,
God divides the destruction of our peoples into thirdsthe frst third
being a siege of fre and violence to come upon our cities.
As my father wrote in 2002, [A]s the U.S. and Britain become less
and less competitive worldwide, unemployment will steadily increase.
As that happens, domestic rioting and violence will become much more
prevalent (EzekielThe End-Time Prophet).
When times are good, of course, its easier for family division and ra-
cial strife to remain below the surface. But in serious crisis and distress,
it doesnt take much for this hatred and division to quickly break out
into the open.
In verse 12, Ezekiel continues, A third part of thee shall die with the
pestilence, and with famine shall they be consumed in the midst of thee
. This again is speaking of the frst third. The Hebrew word for pesti-
lence just means destruction or death. So, as weve said so many times
over the past 20 years, this pestilence can refer to a plague of violence
or burningnot necessarily physical disease.
Terrorist attacks, rioting and burning are the main thrust of the pes-
tilence mentioned in Ezekiel 5, my father wrote in EzekielThe End-
Time Prophet. And this rioting will spread to other Israelite nations
unless people repent! God will get our attention one way or another.
The worse the violence and burning becomes, the worse the famine will
get. The worse the famine becomes, the more intensive the violence will
get. It becomes a vicious cycle.
Now consider this fnal statement, also made in that 2002 booklet,
and see if it doesnt perfectly describe what we have just witnessed in
Britains major cities: The seeds of this future calamity have already
been sown. The government has lost control. There is a breakdown of
law and order. We are getting dangerously close to social anarchy and
chaos!
We are now in the early stages of this society-wide plague of violence
and burning to strike our major cities. London is a chilling preview of
what will soon spread to every major city in Britainand Americaso
say the prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel.
And why is this happening? Because this is what it takes for our
peoples to fnally come to really know their God. And they shall know
that I am the Lord, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this
evil unto them, it says in Ezekiel 6:10. This is the big lesson God wants
the latter-day Israelites and the rest of this world to ultimately learn
then they shall know that I am the Lord.
strike. We are a better and stronger country, at home and abroad, for
her undeviating will and courage. It wasnt just Britainthe post-war
world was full of examples. Nixon and China. Reagan and the Russians.
Gorbachev and perestroika. Mandela and de Klerk. These were big fg-
ures who made bold choices, shaped the future, called the shots.
What a contrast with todays situation, where not merely our politi-
cal leaders, but the institutions they controlfrom the Treasury to the
beat cophave seemed unable to get a grip.
Its not a comfortable ob-
servation, but its one that
any adult can make. So why
cant our leaders talk to us
about it? Dont they know,
dont they care, or are they
too scared? This is the spec-
tre that is haunting Britain:
the failure of politics.
For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth
take away the mighty man, and the man of
war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent,
and the ancient, the captain of fty, and the
honorable man, and the counselor, and the
cunning articer, and the eloquent orator.
