To make our streets safe, accessible and attractive spaces for all to enjoy







The people issue - dynamic

Over 10 million disabled people in Britain, 5 million are over state pension age

By 2020 there will be more people over 50 than under 50

Only half of disabled people of working age are in work, compared with 80% of non
disabled people

Nearly one in five people of working age (7 million) in Great Britain have a disability

Many cannot access education, the workplace, leisure and culture

Inclusive environment
An inclusive environment has been defined as one that is:

Easily used by as many people as possible without undue effort, special treatment or
separation
Offers freedom of choice on how the environment is accessed and used
Allows equal participation in activities for all
Embraces diversity and difference
Safe
Legible and predictable
Is of high quality
