Landrum Middle School is located in a rural community along the border of North and South Carolina. There are approximately 300 students and 30 faculty members serving these students. This school has recently updated their wireless network to a 100 Mbps Ethernet system. With the infrastructure in place the school is ready to move to the next level of technology integration. The districts goal for incorporating technology is to seamlessly embed it into the day to day learning for each classroom. This integration should prepare students for the 21 st century workforce as well as increase student achievement.
The teachers at this school are eager to learn new ways to effectively integrate technology into the classroom. There is a wide range of skill and comfort levels with technology among the staff. We feel there is a need for further training and a resource where teachers can go to get instructions and examples for integrating technology in the classroom. A website will be created that will house all the training videos and documents as well as examples of how each of these tools can be used in a variety of classroom settings. There is also a portion of each in-service meeting given to spotlighting technology in the classroom. We are looking at tools such as Haiku Deck, Thinglink, Weebly, and an online tool for annotating text. The website will include student samples, rubrics for assessment of student work, and ideas on how it can be used in a variety of educational settings.
