"his presentation aims to descri#e the structure and treatments provided #y oro- dental providers $dentists% &or'ing &ithin the social health $pu#licly funded% insurance scheme in Galati county for (-)* year- olds over a for four year period. +ethods! Galati County is representative of Romania in terms of its population demographics, the num#er of inha#itants and the need for social oro-dental care. Data on activity &ere collected from the treatment and activity records of the dentists &ho provided care &ithin the national health insurance scheme to provide an overvie& of the current state of pu#licly funded dental care for ( - )* year-olds. Results! "he num#er of dentists $)),% &or'ing for the pu#lic insurance scheme remained constant over the four year period. -ighty percent of the &or' that they performed on (-)* year-olds involved active treatment of teeth $fillings, etc% rather than prevention. .ver the four years there &as an increase in the volume of orthodontic treatment provided from (,(*/-0((* to (,12/ in 0())and a decrease in the volume surgical procedures and remova#le prostheses from )*,34/ and ),()0/ in 0((* to )3,5)/ and (,43/ in 0()). "here &as also an increase in primary prevention activities! professional dental brushing from 8,41% in 2008 to 10,38% in 2011, fuoridising procedures from ,3!% in 2008 to 10,14% in 2011, sealing procedures from 11,3% in 2008 to 1",08% in 2011# "he num#er of fillings of simple cavities increased from num#er of fillings of complicated cavities, to 1,13/ in 0((* to 1,,4/ in 0()). "he total num#er of fillings decreased from total num#er of e6tracted teeth, to ),23/ in 0((* to ),04/ in 0()). Conclusions! "hese data suggest the follo&ing trends over the last four years! there are favora#le trends for the curatives activities, surgical procedures, remova#le protheses and orthodontic treatment7 for the primary prophylactic activity the trends are favora#le for total num#er of procedures.
