T
he East Coast of America, 1980. Anna Brown, a dying
artist, works on her nal portrait. Obsessive and secretive,
it is a righting of her past failures; her nal statement. John
Brown, her husband and life-long muse, has left; walked out of
their home one morning to travel cross-country in search of the
paintings he has sat for. As their stories unfold independently,
for the rst time in many years a passionate unconventional
relationship is revealed, between two people living through
the most tumultuous decades of modern history.
All the Days and Nights is the story of an art hunt during a
twilight period of painting. It lays bare two relationships that
are ever changing and incomparable: of the artist and the
muse, and of lovers. It is an exploration of what it means to
create, what it means to inspire, what it means to live.

n a cold, foggy morning in March 1950, the beautiful Hina
Kauser gathers up the folds of her burqa, picks up one of
her twin sons, and runs back to her home in Old Delhi like
shes possessed by a jinn. She cannot leave for Lahore with her
husband, Azizuddin Khan, because she is the daughter of Qudsia
Begum, the great grand-daughter of the last Mughal emperor.
Hina and Qudsia must uphold the traditions of their great
ancestors. Oblivious, Azizuddin boards the train to Pakistan

In a novel where the real and the magical rub shoulders, Emperor Babur is a key character,

Gautam Benegals short stories are peopled with characters
we almost recognize a neighbour, an uncle, a niece bringing
alive the Calcutta of the early 90s. There is an old-world
charm to the world he creates, but one that is shot through
with darkness. There is a political pulse running through the
whole, informed by Benegals own preoccupations with gender
and class, and his keen interest in people and the workings of
their minds. Yet, there is a lightness of touch here, a desire to
engage the reader in a story, or indeed a twist in the tale.

A brilliant human interest story about
the civil war in Sri Lanka that looks
at the horror of war as felt by three
individuals
The author is a well-known and much-
acclaimed political journalist
A very new and unique approach to
the strife in Sri Lanka, should appeal to
a wide spectrum of readers
S
ri Lankas three-decade-long civil war tore communities
apart, instilling deep fear and hate. In 2009, the Sri Lankan
army nally defeated the separatist Tamil Tigers guerrillas
in a erce battle that swept up about 3,00,000 civilians and
killed more than 40,000. Resilient, displaced millions still dared
to hope. But the next ve years changed everything.
Rohini Mohans searing account of three lives caught up in the devastation looks beyond
the end of a war, to reveal the creeping everyday violence that comes after. When city-
bred Sarva is dragged off the streets by state forces, his middle-aged mother, Indra,
searches for him through the labyrinthine Sri Lankan bureaucracy. Meanwhile, Mugil, once
a child soldier, deserts the Tigers in the thick of war to protect her family. Having survived,
they struggle to live. Sarva ees the country, losing his way and almost his life in a
harrowing journey to foreign shores. Mugil stays, breaking out of the refugee camp to
rebuild family, a home, an ordinary life in the village she left as a girl. Indra watches a
triumphant Sri Lankan state fritter away its chance at peace. In the tumultuous world they
inhabit, desires, plans and people, can be snatched away in a moment.
The Seasons of Trouble is startling and brutal, yet a beautifully written debut from a prize-
winning journalist. A classic piece of reportage on the effects of conict on people.

A journey into the
heart of the ULFA,
NSCN and other rebel
forces, Rendezvous
with Rebels is as
much a travel memoir
as it is a hard-hitting
political account of
the ssures that mark
the conicts in Indias
northeast.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Rajeev Bhattacharyya is the author of Lens and
the Guerrilla: Insurgency in Indias Northeast,
the rst pictorial book on insurgency in India.
He is a senior journalist based in Guwahati,
and has worked in the past for the Times of
India, the Telegraph, the Indian Express and
Times Now. He is one of the founding editors of
Seven Sisters Post and was its managing editor.
In 2004, he was selected for the Chevening
Fellowship in the UK where he studied the
peace process between the British government
and the Irish Republican Army. He contributes
to academic journals and is an environmental
activist.
SALES & MARKETING POINTS
Rajeev Bhattacharya is the rst
Indian journalist to have travelled
this far into rebel lands and had
this level of access to the leaders
of ULFA, NSCN and other groups
The book works both as a travel
memoir and it was a very
memorable journey and as
investigative journalism
R
ajeev Bhattacharyya walked nearly 800 kilometres, over
some of the most hostile terrain and through no mans
land. His journey, which took three months and twenty
days to complete, is unprecedented in Indian journalism. He
visited the rebel bases in Eastern Nagaland, which covers a
part of Myanmars Sagaing Division, stayed in the ULFA camp
and interviewed its chief of staff Paresh Baruah, as also
chairman of the NSCN (Khaplang), S.S. Khaplang himself. He
interacted with rebels from banned outts like the NDFB, UPPK,
PLA and other groups for many of them, this was their rst
conversation with an Indian journalist. Bhattacharya is one of
very few journalists in the world to have made this journey,
and among the fewer still to have had such intimate access.
Rendezvous with Rebels is the story of that journey. It is as
much a travel memoir as it is a hard-hitting political account of the ssures that mark the
conicts in Indias northeast and Myanmars Sagaing Division. Bhattacharya analyzes the
historical and current role of ULFA, NSCN and other rebel forces, and sizes up the current
situation in eastern Nagaland vis--vis the changes taking place in Myanmar specically,
and the subcontinent generally. It is, ultimately, an up-close examination of a very thorny
conict.

O
nce, in a school in Delhi, there was a young boy who
loved nothing more than making music and dreamed of
sharing his music with the world. One day, that dream
became a reality.
From a childhood spent strumming away at a guitar in Delhi
to professional success as a music composer in Mumbai,
Shantanu Moitra has come a long way. Here, he gives us a glimpse into his world and the
moments that have made him who he is. From his early days as a client servicing drone in
an advertising agency to his collaborations with prominent musicians and lm-makers, to
the making of Parineeta, his greatest hit, and from his all-consuming love for astronomy
to near-death escapades in the Himalayas, he shares the most intimate parts of himself
through his phenomenal adventures in this compelling memoir.
Written in a delightfully autobiographical vein this little book is a collection of stories,
reminiscences, anecdotes and self revelations. Embellished by notations and photographs
these twenty-odd pen and paper vignettes chart the growth of a timid, difdent, self-
effacing boy into a music composer of international repute.
An evocative memoir
by one of Indias
most prominent
composers.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Shantanu Moitra is one of the leading
composers in Indian cinema at present.
Some of his most well-known works

f all the plays penned by William Shakespeare, one that
seems especially relevant to our times is Macbeth. A tale
about primal instincts and emotions, Macbeth deals with
ambition, love, violence and death all in one breath.
In Vishal Bhardwajs scintillating adaptation, the Mumbai maa provides the backdrop for
the action. The protagonist, Maqbool (Irrfan Khan), is the right-hand man of the maa
don Abbaji (Pankaj Kapur). Nimmi (Tabu), who is Abbaji s mistress, hates her situation
and is in love with Maqbool, who she thinks is the only one who can put her out of her
misery. Driven by his love for Nimmi and his ambition for power, Maqbool murders Abbaji
and declares himself the leader of the gang. Circumstances then spiral out of control and
Maqbool nds himself surrounded on all sides. Does he have the resolve to ght it any

he story behind the making of a lm can be as exciting
as the movie itself. Hindi cinema offers a wide array
of styles and approaches to lm-making, packed with
excitement, personalities and drama. While the popular
expression Bollywood suggests homogenous formulae, some
lm-makers break the mould. Vishal Bhardwaj has reinvented
genres and brought his dynamic vision of storytelling to the
silver screen. Setting Shakespeares tragic tale of Othello in the gangster-infested badlands
of western UP, Bhardwaj created a cult classic, with unforgettable dialogue, stunning
imagery and unique music.
This book takes readers behind the camera and follows the making of Omkara from the
initial brainstorming sessions to scriptwriting, music composition, pre-production, casting,
shooting, editing and release. At the same time, it offers encounters with other celebrated
directors such as Dev Anand, Gulzaar, Madhur Bhandarkar, Shekhar Kapur and Mahesh

t the beginning of time, the basic necessities of life were
fullled but material needs did not wield the inuence
that they do now. Times slowly changed and human
beings, once free of bonds, began to develop attachments
and hunger for power. Crime and competition grew. In order
to combat this, a strong leader was needed who would wield inuence over all the local
leaders and chieftains. Rishabha became the rst king, appointed with the task of equitable
distribution of food and other necessities of life. Gradually, familial relationships began to
develop and there was the rise of a new age. However, after several years of successful
rule, when he institutionalized the affairs of the state, Rishabha renounced the world and
became a monk. He was the rst Jain tirthankara. Rishabhayan is the story of Rishabha
and the kingdom he founded. Set at the crossroads of two time periods, this poem traces
the changes that took place in the geographic, social and emotional mindset of people
and society as it developed over time. In the process, the poem searches for truth and the
meaning of life.

uy Kawasakis phenomenal success at Apple Computer

innovative approach to sales, marketing, and management
called evangelism. Evangelism means convincing people to
believe in your product or ideas as much as you do, by using
fervor, zeal, guts, and cunning to mobilize your customers and
staff into becoming as passionate about a cause as you are.
Selling the Dream is a handbook and workbook for putting
evangelism into action. Kawasaki charts a complete blueprint
for the beginning evangelist that covers such topics as how
to dene a cause (whether it is a business, like Windham Hill Records or the Body Shop,
or a public interest concern, like the National Audubon Society or Mothers Against Drunk
Driving), how to identify good and bad enemies, how to deliver an effective presentation,
and how to nd, train, and recruit new evangelists. One of the highlights of the book is
a short course in developing an evangelistic business plan, illustrated by the complete,

n September 2008 Dorothy, a female chimp in her late 40s,
died of congestive heart failure at Cameroons Sanaga-Yong
Chimpanzee Rescue Center. A photo of Dorothys funeral, in
which Dr. Sherri Speede was cradling Dorothys head while
her family of chimpanzees viewed her body a nal time,
went viral after being published in National Geographic. The
image was subsequently covered in hundreds of media outlets
on television, in newspapers, and on blogs, deeply touching
people around the world while showing once and for all that
animals do indeed have feelings.
Dr. Sherri Speede is the Founder/Director of In Defense of
Animals-Africa and Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center.
Now she gives us Kindred Beings, a touching and scientically
compelling memoir that follows the chimpanzees life from the
time Sheri met her while Dorothy was tethered on a chain at
Luna Park Hotel in 1999 until her death nine and a half years
later at Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

C
onsidered both one of the most beautiful mediums to
work with as well as one of the more difcult to master,
watercolor paintings are highly regarded for their delicate
strokes, incandescent washes, and seemingly effortless
appearance. However, it is the very beauty of this medium that
also makes it one of the more challenging to work with. Unlike
other paints which usually stay where they are applied and
maintain their appearance after they dry, watercolors, which
have a primarily water base, are known for diffusing, altering
the shape of the paper as well as the appearance of the paint
as it dries. InYou Can Paint Vibrant Watercolors in Twelve Easy
